Difool’s adventures will bring him into conflict with the galaxy’s greatest warrior, the Metabaron, and will pit him against the awesome powers of the Technopope. For the conclusion of the legendary spiritual space adventure series, he partners with Eisner-winning artist Ladrönn, whose work is very much in the Moebius style. A world-spanning sci-fi epic! Pre-Code Horror

DARK MYSTERIES #19
Replica edition. Originally published August, 1954. The eighth issue of the Replica series features a scarce and in-demand torture cover that illustrates the best (or worst) of pre-code horror comics, never before collected and from an offbeat, obscure publisher (Master). And wait, there's more! There's an "injury to eye" story, "Born in the Grave," "Snow Madness," and "Never to Die." There's even an "EC Swipe" here, another little tidbit that gets the write-ups and the interest in the Overstreet Guide. Canton Street, 2016. ...More.

Item Code: DM19
Comic, 7x10, 32 pages, Full Color
$14.99

We have all the Replica Editions in stock, except the Black Cat which has sold out.

PRE-CODE CLASSICS THIS MAGAZINE IS HAUNTED Volume 2
Collects #8-14, 1952-53. Highly Recommended. Art by Sheldon Moldoff, Bob McCarty, Bud Thompson, Bob Powell et al. Here's another very collectible but half-forgotten title in the great tradition of the likes of EC Comics and the Harvey Horrors--this from Fawcett, a far cry from their Captain Marvel family books. But in keeping with Fawcett's high standards, this boasts an A-list of contributors, good stories...and Doctor Death! Gnarled and twisted tales of post-death revenge and retribution, inlcuding some superlative work by the obscure but top-notch Bob McCarty (who's been mistaken for Bernard Baily) and Bob Powell artwork. Two severed-head covers and a burning skull cover are here, and that’s just the beginning... PS Artbooks, 2016. ...More.

Item Code: PCTM02H

PRE-CODE CLASSICS THIS MAGAZINE IS HAUNTED Volume 1
Collects #1-7, 1951-52. Highly Recommended. By Shelly Moldoff, George Evans, Bernard Bailey et al. Here's another forgotten but highly collected title in the great tradition of EC, this time from Fawcett, home to Capt. Marvel. George Evans is the standout here, doing horror tales just before his work at EC, and it’s truly exceptional. Also here: some great Bob Powell. Fawcett was a step above the average comics publisher and it shows here in their premier horror title, which lasted for two years and then was continued by Charlton, where many classic Ditko stories would appear. PS Artbooks, 2016. ...More.

PRE-CODE CLASSICS JOURNEY INTO FEAR Volume 2
Collects #8-14, 1952-53. Hey, it’s all here, culture-lovers: walking dead folks (loads of ‘em)--some of them even still sporting their heads—witches, ghosts, werewolves and enough vampires to go into the second-hand dentures business. The publisher knew beautiful girls sold, so lots of tales feature nice young ladies being threatened with every sort of ghastly peril. And often it comes to be. Another wild title from Superior, one of the most extreme of the pre-code comics publishers (which makes them the most fun). PS Artbooks, 2016....More.

Item Code: PCJ02H
Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 252pg, Full Color
$59.99

ALSO AVAILABLE
PRE-CODE CLASSICS JOURNEY INTO FEAR Volume 1

Collects #1-7, 1951-52. 30 stories. Competing with EC's Tales from the Crypt et al, publisher Superior had the famous "Iger Shop" (who'd done all the Fiction House stories for years) crank out the weirdest, most outré stories they could think up. All in the famous "Jack Kamen-ish" style that they'd learned sold so well, even after Kamen was long gone from their staff! They also figured out skeletons, monsters and pretty girls sold books, so every cover varied that common theme for those early 1950s kids who wanted a good scare. PS Artbooks, 2016. ...More.

CTHULHU Miniature Statue Grey
Special limited quantity. Recommended. By Richard Luong. Sculpted by Martin Canale. This is a cool and unique statue; we were introduced to it at San Diego Comic-Con and it's very limited. The original was designed to be used with Cthulhu Wars, the board game. But the creator made up extra, unpainted (grey) statues to offer at the shows, and we had to offer this. It's very nicely detailed and can be painted or will look great just the way it is now. Our supply may be limited. . Out of Print. ...More.

EXODUS THE Art of Michael Hayes Volume 3 Signed
Signed! Highly Recommended. The third art book by award winning artist Michael C. Hayes. Calling this a convention sketchbook doesn't do it justice, although Michael has certainly produced this to offer to fans at shows he attends. We first met him at the Spectrum show and are hugely impressed by his talent. In the same classical, full-blown painting style you see from Donato Giancola, here is fantasy--and fantasy women--brilliantly executed and with warm, rich colors and detail. Michael Hayes...More.

KRAZY KAT 1934
Library of American Comics 8. Highly Recommended. By George Herriman. The year includes homages to old jokes and bricks, followed by playful references to sex, drink, and even drugs. The daily Krazy Kat strips are often Herriman's most personal works and standouts from this year include Krazy Kat's attempt to write a memoir and the Kat's quietly waiting for the last leaf of "ottim" to fall (a tender scene that finds echoes in Charles Schulz's drawing of Linus admiring the last autumn leaf's stubborn spirit). It could also be argued that the daily is more accessible to the new reader. IDW, 2016. ...More.

News and Notes

We’re still waiting for our copies of the softcover and deluxe editions of The Sensuous Frazetta to arrive here. We got some advance copies at San Diego Comic-Con, but we’ve sent them all out to customers who’d advance-ordered copies. We do have just 3 left of the hardcover from the ten copies Holly Frazetta signed for us at the show. We will not be able to restock these signed, but we will bring in a few more of the unsigned hardcover. It’s a money-saving way to get the bonus 16 pages of material without the higher price of the deluxe edition. You can also reserve softcover or deluxe editions, we expect them by the end of August or the very first of September. This was our featured book at San Diego Comic-Con.
The World’s Best Tattoo Models Series 8 sounded like a fun book and we ordered copies, but we got just five and are being told now that there are NO more available. Take a look on the website, and order it immediately if you’d like one. With so few, I didn’t add it to the regular listings above since I think it’ll sell out over this weekend.

Last week we listed the artbook by Daxiong, the fine artist who allowed us to use his artwork on our latest catalog cover. I was out sick and didn’t get to polish my description, so wanted to mention even though we call this “remarqued,” Daxiong actually draws a full page, pen and ink illustration in every copy. It’s pretty darned nice and we think quite a deal.

If you haven’t heard yet, Jack Davis passed away July 27. He was born in 1924, and I think is just about the last of the EC stalwarts who was still with us. What can I say that hasn’t been said before in the many collections of his work.

Richard Thompson, author of Cul de Sac, also passed away from complications from Parkinson’s on the exact same day. We love his work and his career was cut far too short. Here’s a short piece by his friend, Nick Galifianakis, with links to more about Richard. We have the complete Cul de Sac on the website, along with two of his regular books, one on sale. Treat yourself to one and discover the funniest cartoonist I’ve seen since Bill Watterson.

Beauty and the Beast by Kinuko Y. Craft – She is so amazing, she actually painted an entirely original piece just for the bookplate that we produced for her new book. We just got the bookplates back from her, all nicely signed. Don’t miss this, it’s a wonderful book and the full color bookplate is extra-thick icing on the cake.

~Bud
