BETWEEN WORLDS
Free Augmented Reality Animated App. Highly Recommended. By Skip Brittenham. Art by Jay Anacleto, Brian Heberlin, Doug Sirois. This Young Adult fantasy novel brings fantasy to life with an entirely new technology that I can only relate to Pokeman Go. Using cutting-edge augmented reality technology (a free downloadable app, which I put on my iPhone), fully animated creatures and objects are added to each of 12 color plates, with interactive 3D--moving, talking, growling. It's WAY COOL. Two high schoolers get lost inside the Mystery Forest and come upon Nith, a dangerous alternate universe. As they explore this strange new land, they discover magical powers they didn’t know they had! Putnam, 2016...More.

This is THE perfect gift for youngsters, and it's not a bad one for anyone who is ready to be amazed at "augmented reality." Think Pokeman Go but in a book! It's really wild.

Pulp History & Reprints

HISTORY OF THE DOC SAVAGE ADVENTURES
Now in softcover. By Robert Michael Cotter. Doc Savage is the prototype of the modern fictional superhero. The character exploded onto the scene in 1933, with the Great Depression and the gathering clouds of war as a cultural backdrop. The adventure series is examined in relation to historical events and the changing tastes of readers, with special attention paid to the horror and science fiction elements. The artwork features illustrations, covers, and original art, examining the paperbacks, pulps, comic books, radio and film. McFarland, 2016...More.

FIGHTING AMERICAN
Closeout Price! #1-7, 1954-55. Highly Recommended. By Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. With tongue firmly in cheek, unparalled action and drama, in the best S&K style, but with stories and characters that didn't take themselves too seriously. Here were cold-war commies, fatal femme fatales, goofy bad guys you'd never seen the like of before. Were comics in 1954 ready for it....yes and no. Fighting American lasted seven glorious issues and was revived by Harvey in the early 1960s. S&K fans recognize these as among the team's finest work. Dramatic, funny and gloriously drawn, packed with flat-out action and delightfully eccentric stories. Titan, 2011...More.

SECRET HISTORY OF WONDER WOMAN
Closeout Price! Highly Recommended. By Jill Lepore. Highly praised by Alison Bechdel, Art Spiegelman, and Chris Ware--and myself! "An absolutely unputdownable book!" "...headspinning weirdness..." Marston invented the lie detector test, yet lived a life of secrets. The bondage so frequent in early WW stories begins to be explained here, with its origins both in the early feminist cartoons but also in more intimate desires of Marston and 2nd "wife," Byrne. 16-page full color section plus 100 b&w reproductions of vintage artwork, covers, splash pages, panels, documents, letters and photographs. Note: These copies have minor bumps to corners and scuffed and imperfect dust jackets. RED BARRY UNDERCOVER MAN Volume 1

Red Barry was one of the most visually innovative adventure strips of the mid-1930s, combining fluid brushwork and noir shadows (in bold blues and purples) with figures that were constantly in motion, plus a level of violence that brought cries of protest from its syndicate. Red Barry and Secret Agent X-9 were King Features' answers to the Tribune's Dick Tracy.  While X-9 continued for decades under hands of various quality, Red Barry by Will Gould (no relation to Chester) was an auteur's vision that lasted less than four years. Mature Readers

I’m leading off with a major book that isn’t out but is slated for December. Possiblities: The Photographs of John Willie will collect 1,360 photographs, nude and fetish/bondage work, that Willie made in Sydney (1938), and Los Angeles (1958-71). This the man who created and drew Sweet Gwendoline, published Bizarre, one of the first fetish magazines, and whose rare photography work was only collected in a very small part in the revised (and still available) edition of The Adventures of Sweet Gwendoline [ADVH. $65, your price $39.95]. it should be a very special book. Much of his work will remind you of the early spanking & bondage photos of Bettie Page in the early 1950s, but far higher quality.

In stock now is a new book of sweet pin-up art, reminding me of Terry Dodson’s work: Knock Outs by Elias Chatzoudis. There’s a limited with a signed print (just 100 copies), and a regular edition.

We also have three previous books by Elias in stock: Fever Pitch [FEVERP], Fever Pitch More Hot Girls [FEVE02] and Fairy Tales [FAITA]. All are full color at $14.95 each, from SQP.

And we have a new Cavewoman: My Little Dino with a variant Budd Root Nude cover. See lots more Cavewoman on our website. Many are now on closeout and discounted, others are in very short supply and will not be restocked as we make room for others.

News and Notes

I mentioned last week that we are getting low on some of the sale-priced PS Artbooks, such as one of the Planet Comics numbers. Rulah and Sheena are also getting a bit low and may be gone after our new catalog, mentioned above, reaches everyone. So be warned, we cannot restock most of these sale-priced editions and we really kept these cheap to make everyone happy ($19.95 for $48 books!).

Our new catalog, now downloadable (see below), is our holiday edition. I know it sounds early, but now’s the time to get those special presents while our supply is good and we have plenty of time to ship them to you.

The holidays have the habit of moving up on us really fast. I should talk, I don’t do well myself on getting those gifts early, but you can be smarter than I am. We’ll do our best to ship fast and to keep everything in stock, but you can tilt the odds in your favor by ordering early.

~Bud
