Get mad and get Snafu, Lunatickle, Cockeyed, Crazy, Thimk, Frenzy, Frantic, Loco, Panic, and Zany, too! Besides the names above, also here are Bill Elder, John Severin, Al Jaffee, Ross Andru, Joe Kubert, Bob Powell, Howard Nostrand, Lee Elias, and many others. IDW, 2017...More.

The Story of THE ILIAD. Winner Kate Greenaway Medal. By Rosemary Sutcliff. Art by Alan Lee. This stunning children's (and all-ages) version of The Iliad by the award-winning Rosemary Sutcliff and Alan Lee was first published in 1993 and is being republished now in a beautiful new edition. Its rich illustration will look familiar to Lord of the Rings fans, as Lee was the conceptual artist for the amazing Peter Jackson films. Featuring the stories of heroes Ajax, Achilles and Penthesilea (the Amazon Queen), this is high adventure at its best, with full color paintings on nearly every page. Wrap-around cover. Recommended. Edited by Daniel Finamore. One of the world's premier collections of horror and sci-fi movie posters amassed, not altogether surprisingly, by the dark mind of Metallica's lead guitarist, Kirk Hammett. Before Kirk Hammett assumed the heavy metal mantle of one of the most successful and beloved bands in rock history, he was a geek for the imaginative universe of horror. This generously illustrated book highlights the finest examples from Hammett's personal collection—an astonishing trove of horror and sci-fi film posters that span the history of the genre. VOLUPTUOUS TERRORS 120 Horror & Sci-Fi Film Posters From Italy
Recommended. Edited by G.H. Janus. 120 film posters by a wide range of acclaimed Italian artists, created for both indigenous and foreign-language (some U.S.) film productions. Classic science fiction and pulp horror in full-color, full-page reproductions showcasing exploitation horror films unique to Italy. From the post-war period through to the 1980s, compositions almost invariably included curvaceous female figures in jeopardy, juxtaposed with the iconography of fantasy and terror. Gary Gianni's occult detective series The MonsterMen, first published as backups in Hellboy, is collected here in its entirety in an entirely new softcover edition--it was first done in hardcover in 2012. PRE-CODE CLASSICS Out of The Shadows Volume 1
Limited, 1,700! Collects #5-10, 1952-53. Highly Recommended. By Alex Toth, Reed Crandall, George Tuska, Grandenetti, Andru, et al. For a minor title, this has an all-star line-up of artists! Standard Comics did not believe in #1 issues--they started all their horror titles with #5. But what titles--these were above-average in both art and story, and good, solid storytelling. Their titles included The UnseenAdventures into Darkness & and this-- each lasted just ten issues or so. All well done E.C. imitations. Alex Toth is brilliant here; Reed Crandall does two stories (noted in his new bio), Jack Katz (The First Kingdom) is bizarre and fun. PS Artbooks, 2017...More.

St. John was a mid-sized comics publisher with a varied list of titles, best known for above average material but especially for the superb romance comics by Matt Baker. In June 1952 they joined the horror binge with this short run title. Comic Book Artists

Highly Recommended. By Jerry Robinson, with notes by Jens Robinson. In this memoir, penned by the late Jerry Robinson in his final years, he tells the story of a seventeen-year-old college hopeful who became the artist on Detective Comics, and later Batman, shares his thoughts on creating the Joker as the first super villain, and relates the celebrity-studded journeys that a long life in comics afforded him. Jerry was one of the very few Golden Age artists to save his original art--so here are never before published and rarely seen originals from the likes of Detective Comics #76 and Batman #14 and cover artwork featuring Batman, Robin, and the Joker. Highly Recommended. By Mark Evanier. Introduction by Neil Gaiman. Almost everything that was different about comic books began in the 1940s on the drawing table of Jack Kirby. This is his story by one who knew him well—Mark Evanier. Originally issued in 2008, Kirby: King of Comics was the first overview of the legendary comic book creator's career. It is now available in a smaller, more affordable package, revised and expanded for Kirby's centennial. Abrams Comicarts, 2017...More.

Back in stock. Highly Recommended. By J. David Spurlock. Thrilling, Wonder, Captain America, America's Best, Marvel, Exciting, StartlingAlex Schomburg produced the most dazzling array of high-quality comic-book covers in the Golden Age of American Comics. Stan Lee said, "Alex Schomburg was to comic books what Norman Rockwell was to The Saturday Evening Post." This book collects, for the first time, a host of tantalizing Schomburg treasures in one volume. Superheroes, jungle girls, robots, wild animals, and space travelers abound in these romantic and nostalgic Pop-Art icons of the bygone WWII era. Vanguard, 2005...More.

Recommended. By Moebius & Jodorowsky. This is a very special graphic story, told with almost no words. It was the very first collaboration between Jodorowsky and Moebius, done purely for the love of the project and for no pay whatsoever. The original edition was distributed for free, but soon it was pirated and today they sell for 100 Euros (about $150). The story features a sightless monk and a powerful, predatory eagle flying through a deserted city, Directed by the monk, it is looking for new eyes for his master. There are no panels, each page is a full, finely detailed drawing printed in black on striking yellow paper. Humaniods, 2016...More.

I'm totally blown away, Imagine a time capsule from 1975, with all the best comics artists doing original strips--packed away until now. Never published. This is it--comic strips created in the early 1970s by world-famous artists and writers such as C. C. Beck, René Goscinny, Harvey Kurtzman, Art Spiegelman, Frank Brunner, Gray Morrow, and Gahan Wilson. And written by Archie Goodwin, Steve Englehart and a ton of other creators. Connie by Frank Godwin

Five episodes, 1936-38. Highly Recommended. By Frank Godwin. Frank Godwin's Connie, produced in the 1930s for the Ledger Syndicate, was groundbreaking in many ways. Its heroine was a woman of action who roamed the Earth and even explored space. Godwin's magnificent art drew from the pulp magazine sci-fi design of the day, creating futuristic machinery and fantastic creatures with equal ease. Pulished in 2010, we were pleased to find these still available and now at an exclusive sale price. Two book set, the first with four episodes: The Unseen Avenger, The Kimberly Curse, Race to Yucatan, and Death In Stone, and the second with one long story, The Menace of Mo Tung. The Four Science Fiction Episodes, 1939. Highly Recommended. By Frank Godwin. If you never read another Connie, this is the one not to miss. This is the famous sci-fi sequence, where Connie and her friends blast off into space and find alien races and, more surprisingly, other earth people on Venus and the moons of Saturn. Godwin's beautiful line drawings (he later did the same beautiful work on Rusty Riley, after a long career in the slick magazines and advertising art), and his depiction of 1930s-era sci-fi, make this a must-have classic. Two book set with four stories: Captives of the space PiratesMaster of the Jovian Moons, Battle for Titan and Predators of Polaria. Game of Thrones

An entirely new graphic novel, never before published. Recommended. By George R.R. Martin, adapted by Ben Avery, art by Mike S. Miller. This full-color graphic novel adapts one of the Dunk and Egg novellas from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms...a prequel to A Game of ThronesWesteros is eerily peaceful.
