Underwood Books Publisher File Copies #2

Signed & numbered, 1200! 16 extra pages. Our Highest Recommendation. Edited by Cathy and Arnie Fenner. Jeff passed away in 2011, but thanks to publisher Underwood Books, we are able to offer his finest art book complete with signature and slipcase and 16 bonus pages, at a price far below anything on the internet. From the 1960s through the early 1980s Jeffrey Jones was one of the most respected creators of fantasy and science fiction art. Comfortable as both a book cover illustrator and as a comics artist, Jones gained a large and loyal following that resulted in his being honored with a World Fantasy Award for Best Artist. Hard Cover, 9x12, 176pg, Full Color

Underwood gave us some of these several years ago, long after we'd sold out our original copies. And we quickly sold those out at a premium price. Now he's given us the last of his copies, put aside many years ago in his storage container. When I thought I only was getting 8 copies, I priced this at $300. But he surprised us with more copies, so I'm dramatically reducing that price. This gives you an extra-good deal, far below anything available on the internet. I may raise the price later on, based on how these go, since this is an extraordinary book and, I feel, a bargain at this price.

Signed and lettered from 52, in half-leather, in special traycase, with 16 extra pages. Edited by Cathy and Arnie Fenner. Only two available. Jeff passed away in 2011, but thanks to publisher Underwood Books, we are able to offer his finest art book. This includes a page with four extra drawings laid into the traycase cover; it's specially bound in black leather with gold titles; it includes an extra-illustrated signature page, tipped in, and limited to 52 lettered copies. The extra 16 page section missing from the trade edition is here too. Underwood Books, 2002. Out of Print....More.

We have only three copies of this signed softcover.

Also available we have the unsigned softcover, in perfect mint condition (we pulled off the shrink-wrap to make sure they were not signed). Just three copies of this [AGEIN $75]. And in our Rare Books section, not a part of the Underwood file copies, we have just one copy of the “ordinary” signed limited Age of Innocence. [RB29. $250]. Highly Recommended. Never before collected in its entirety: Jeff's 44 pages of Idyl, which appeared as one-page vignettes in National Lampoon. AND the successor I'm Age, 36 more one-page "stories" that began in 1981 in Heavy Metal. PALEOART Visions of The Prehistoric Past 1830-1980
Highly Recommended. By Zoë Lescaze. Preface by Walton Ford. In this unprecedented (and enormous), new book, writer Zoë Lescaze and artist Walton Ford present the astonishing history of paleoart from 1830 to 1990, including eight fold-out pages. These are modern visions of prehistory: stunning paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, mosaics, and murals that mingle scientific fact with unbridled fantasy. Here is an in-depth look at this neglected niche of art history, also revealing how artists projected their own aesthetic, rendering the primordial past with dashes of Romanticism, Impressionism, Japonisme, and Art Nouveau, among other influences. Taschen, 2017...More.

DINOMANIA The Lost Art of Winsor McCay
Closeout Price! The Secret Origins of King Kong, and the Urge to Destroy New York. Highly Recommended. By Ulrich Merkl. An impressive, king-sized book that was rather expensive originally, but now a bargain. Dedicated sleuthing has unearthed a never-published series of Sunday pages by Winsor McCay that was lost following the artist's untimely death. Titled simply Dino, it opens a surprising new window into McCay's work and here it's showcased from the original art, which serves to introduce this examination of our fascination with dinosaurs and King Kong over the decades. 650 reproductions and photos, 250 in full color. Fantagraphics, 2015. Out of Print....More.

YUMMY The Good Girl Art of Matt Dixon Deluxe Signed
With bonus 7x10 color print, signed & numbered from 100! Recommended. Dixon loves genre ladies and we have a fine variety here: fairy tale characters, a startling fairy, spear-wielding girls, girls with monster buddies, a pirate, a space girl in a skintight costume, a green alien lady, Tomb Raider-type, mermaids, one with tentacles instead of a fin. And some nicely serious portraits of darker more serious ladies, showing Dixon's skill as a fine artist. The print features a very pretty witch in revealing overalls, surounded by pumpkins. No nudity here, but lots of pretty ladies who aren't shy about being sexy. SQP, 2017. Mature Readers...More.

Item Code: YUMDID
Soft Cover, 9x12, 48pg, Full Color

Mark Schultz

All-new Schultz cover! Highly Recommended. Edited by Jon B. Cooke. Celebrating 30 years of the creator's "Autos and Archosaurs" masterworks, this issue's extra-long feature journeys into the Xenozoic Era with a career-spanning interview with artist's artist Mark Schultz. In a revealing and intimate conversation conducted in Mark's Pennsylvania home, CBC examines the early years of struggle, success with Kitchen Sink Press, and hitting it big when Cadillacs and Dinosaurs hit the airwaves as a hit Saturday morning cartoon series. Of course, the issue includes rarely-seen art and fascinating photos from Mark's amazing and award-winning career. TwoMorrows, 2017. Mature Readers...More.

It is slightly larger size, 14x11, with a cloth spine and decorated covers with an onlaid color plate with embossed titles. Special "weathered" slipcase. Numbered and signed. This is the heavily illustrated novella that explores the border between what we want to believe is true and the reality that we'd prefer to keep concealed. From a crime-fiction framework, it opens up into a breathtaking journey through cryptic history, cautionary science-fiction and a speculative vision of the deep future. Flesk, 2016...More.

Highly Recommended. By Bernard Cosey. What was life like for Mickey before 1928... before Hollywood stardom struck? In this riveting, phantasmagorical “what-if” tale, we follow the Mouse from his humble origins--as Oswald Rabbit's screenwriter!--through a tangled web of trains, rocket ships, and stolen Shakespeare scripts! Will a haunting tune bring Mickey and Minnie together for the first time? Will Goofy find success as a... ferryboat driver? Or will big boss Mr. Casey and relentless Pegleg Pete strike again? Award-winning Swiss cartoonist Bernard Cosey (Lost in the Alps) brings us an amazing Mouse adventure with a thoughtful, emotive twist. IDW, 2017...More.

Collects #1-6. Recommended. By Mark Millar. Art by Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion. The Millar-Capullo sell out Reborn is here. Where do you go when you die? Not heaven or hell; somewhere else. In a new and different body! Somewhere you have to fight to survive. Somewhere the people from the past are waiting for you—the good and the bad. A very unusual story, with exceptionally sharp artwork. The hero here is a gritty-looking Norse Viking in his new incarnation; the beautiful heroine is the only one here than knows the score, and she's a Frank Cho-style knockout in her space-style suit and helmet. Bettie Page has her very own section on our website. Here's her latest collection, just published:

By Irving Klaw. Written by Cara Winter. The collaboration between Bettie Page and Irving Klaw produced photographs that are far more than mere pin-ups. They have given generations of people something to admire, by showing one strong, unapologetic woman, at home in her curvaceous body. While by today's standards some of these photographs may seem tame, even humorous, there was nothing funny about what Bettie and Irving were up to. They were, perhaps unwittingly, blazing a trail for future pro-sex feminists to follow, by creating a portrait of a woman's life built on confidence, tolerance, and sexual freedom. PSG, 2017. Virgil Finlay (1914-1971) was an American pulp fantasy, science fiction and horror illustrator. News and Notes

Roger Hill’s Reed Crandall: Illustrator of the Comics

This has unexpectedly gone OUT OF PRINT. I’ve pushed this hard, giving it my highest recommendation, because it is truly a fine book. The bad news is it’s not going to be reprinted and we’ve had to raise the price to full retail [REEDCH. $49.99] because we had to go to a secondary source (with a low discount) to get more copies. The good news is that we have some still available. The other good news is that Twomorrows is already planning a softcover edition, but we don’t have a publication date or price yet.
