CULT MAGAZINES A TO Z: A Compendium of Culturally Obsessive & Curiously Expressive Publications
Closeout Price! Highly Recommended. Edited by Earl Kemp and Luis Ortiz. Pulps, obscure digests, slicks, nudist mags, monster and men's magazines. This wonderfully illustrated book covers the great, the classic and the bizarre of magazines that thrived beneath the mainstream between 1925 and 1990. How thousands of these specialized magazines were produced, gratifying the secret life of every fad, taste, obsession, and hush-hush desire. Nothing was beyond the scope of the imaginative publishers and eccentric editors; we go behind the scenes of titles such as Amazing Stories, Doctor Death, Gee-Whiz, Jaybird, Film Fun, Confidental, Eyeful, Manhunt, Paris Nights, Focus, Murder Tales, and True Thrills. Full-color reproductions of hundreds of distinctive cover images. Nonstop Press, 2009. Out of Print....More.

Shazam & Black Adam Statues

DC HEROES SHAZAM Collectible Statue
Numbered from 1000. Polystone. Recommended. Icon Heroes presents the Shazam statue! Of course, we still know him as Captain Marvel, Billy Batson turned hero! Each statue is hand painted, individually numbered, and includes a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. We don't have any artist credit, but it seems to to be at least done in the style of Alex Ross, which makes it pretty cool. I like it. Looks like the classic Captain Marvel but still in a modern way. Classic 1940s costume, right down to the gold-bordered cape and sash, and big buttons. Icon Heroes, 2019...More.

In 1973 DC brought back one of comics' most popular heroes: Captain Marvel, also known as Shazam!, whose Golden Age adventures sold in the millions of copies. These new adventures combined the cartoony art of C.C. Beck, the original artist from the 1940s, with the modern, tongue-in-cheek sensibility of writers including Dennis O'Neil (BatmanGreen Lantern/Green Arrow). Beck's final issue was #10, then the superlative Kurt Schaffenberger (Superman, Lois Lane) took the series on. DC, 2019. Due June. ...More.
