ILLUSTRATION MAGAZINE #56
Highly Recommended. Cover feature this issue is the brilliant work of Saul Tepper, illustrated profusely with original paintings and rare tear sheets. Of the Dean Cornwell school of realism and taught by the noted Harvey Dunn...what more needs be said. Next up is 1950s realist James Avati, who brought a new seriousness and brilliance to the world of  paperback cover painting. His work for the novels of William Faulkner is famous. And here is "Gum's Graphics," examining the stunning packaging design and illustrations for chewing gum over the years. Illustrated Press, 2017...More.

ILLUSTRATORS QUARTERLY #17
Highly Recommended. With Gustave Dore, Francisco Coaching, Zac Retz, Mort Kunstler. One of my favorite issues yet. A wonderful look at rarely seen paintings by Gustave Dore; cover feature and a long article on Mort Kunstler, which starts with his work in the men's magazines and moves to the amazing historical illustrations that made his name. A wonderful article on obscure Filipino comics illustrator Francisco Coching, who revolutionized Filipino comics a generation before we saw his countrymen sweep into U.S. comics in the seventies; and Zac Retz, avante-garde animator and children's illustrator. Book Palace, 2017...More.

The inside story of the Spanish Studio/Agency (Toutain Studio) that transformed the Warren empire and brought an unprecedented realism into comics! This glorious book from illustrators is lavishly illustrated not only with Warren art, but with other comics projects, foreign publications, special projects, even specialty paintings never before seen. Finally we learn about these amazing talents that took comics by storm in the seventies and challenged U.S. artists with their abundant talent and creativity. Some nudity. Book Palace, 2016. REED CRANDALL'S EC STORIES Artist's Edition
Our Highest Recommendation. By Reed Crandall. Reed Crandall was one of the greatest comic artists of the Golden Age and early Silver Age. His work graced the covers and pages of National Comics (drawing the iconic Uncle Sam), as well as BlackhawkDoll Man and many others. Legendary for his remarkable talents as a draftsman, he was the quintessential "Artist's Artist." And then he joined EC! This focuses on Crandall's remarkable EC Comics stories, including many that are outright classics. Huge size, as the art was done old style, twice up. IDW, 2017...More.

STAR WARS THE CLASSIC NEWSPAPER COMICS Volume 1
Highly Recommended. By Russ Manning, Steve Gerber et al. Art by Manning, Dave Stevens, Alfredo Alcala et al. The first of three volumes that present, for the first time ever, the classic Star Wars newspaper strip from 1979-1984 in its complete format -- including each Sunday title header and "bonus" panels in their meticulously restored original color. Initially the color Sundays and black and white dailies told separate stories, but within six months the incomparable Russ Manning merged the adventures to tell brand new epic seven-days-a-week sagas that rivaled the best science fiction comics of all time. Outstanding art. IDW, 2017...More.

The universe is in jeopardy, and to save it the JSA must journey back in time to the heart of Hitler's Germany. If they fail, all they fought for in the Crisis could be lost once more. But just as the team is on the cusp of disbanding, they receive a dire message from the Spectre, sending them on perhaps their greatest mission ever... STEPHEN KING'S CREEPSHOW
New printing. Highly Recommended. Art by Bernie Wrightson. The bestselling recreation of those wonderful EC stories is finally back in print. Inspired by EC, Stephen King created his homage, Creepshow, first a series of horror stories in prose, then made into a cult classic film directed by George Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead)—and adapted to comics when the film was released, featuring all-new art by the legendary Bernie Wrightson. And very special cover art by the acclaimed Jack Kamen! New from Gris Grimly

GRIS GRIMLY'S WICKED NURSERY RHYMES Volume 3
Recommended. Gris Grimly presents a third collection of re-imagined classic children's rhymes combining macabre adult humor with masterful illustrations. Be prepared to view these staid old classics in a new light... a murky, sinister light. Sick and twisted--well, you be the judge. But don't run this by the kids, it's strictly for grown-ups. Wee Willie Winkie, Lucy Locket, Pop Goes the Weasel, Solomon Grundy, There Was a Crooked Man, Mary Had a Little Lamb and others all get twisted into new visions! Baby Tattoo, 2016...More.

Ten full color plates, dozens of 1/3 page, 1/2 page, and full page black & white drawings liberally spread throughout the entire book. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's first novel--and the origin story of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson--in the first unabridged, fully illustrated version since its debut, London, 1881. New PS Artbooks Sale

ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN Volume 1 Slipcased
Closeout Price! Collects #1-5, 1948-49. Limited, 300. Recommended. Foreword by Barry Forshaw. In Fall 1948, publisher ACG started the very first regularly published horror comic book...a good two years before EC kicked off their horror titles. And many or most of these stories were written by the legendary Richard Hughes, whose fine creativity kept this title rolling for a record twenty years, until 1968! Seminal stories of witches and werewolves, ghosts and haunted castles were the early staple here, but usually with fun twists unique to Hughes' exceptional writing skills. By issue #5 we are seeing "The Spirit of Frankenstein," "The Blonde Witch of the Swamp," "The Spectral Singer," and "The Ghostly Crew"--remember, these were nice thick 52-page issues with five stories in each issue. PS Artbooks, 2011...More.

Item Code: ADU01D
Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 288pg, Full Color
$64.99 $23.99

Also available in slipcase are volumes 1 through 10. Now available in regular editions at $19.95 each are volumes 3-7, 9 and 10 [ADU01H, ADU02H, etc].

Closeout Price! Collects #7-12, 1953-54. Limited, 300. Recommended. By Richard Hughes. Art by Harry Lazarus, Paul Gatusso, Charles Sultan, Bob McCarty, Al Camy et al. Thirty fun stories of witches, spectres, dead men, avenging souls and much more, mostly written by the top-notch Hughes. A sister magazine to the better known Adventures into the Unknown and Forbidden Worlds, this offers the same unusual pre-code horror stories ACG (American Comics Group) was known for. Stores include The Frozen Ghost, Numbered for Death, Death Has Wings, In the Wake of the Bomb, The Fountain of Age, The Reluctant Witch, My Pal Ghost, Music for the Dead, I Am a Thing, etc. PS Artbooks, 2013...More.

ROY THOMAS PRESENTS FRANKENSTEIN Volume 4 Slipcased
Closeout Price! Collects #6-10, 1947. Limited, 300. Recommended. Written and drawn by Dick Briefer. Dick Briefer's Frankenstein character, created for Prize Comics, was comic's first ongoing horror series. But unlike every other adaptation, Briefer made the "monster" the star of a comedy strip, with friends who are witches, mummies and strange beings...it's a spoof on horror stories. In later issues Frankenstein became a true monster, meting out violent justice with nary a second thought. But in these early stories, it's all good clean fun as the monster tries to cope with a crazy, surreal world that he doesn't quite understand. PS Artbooks, 2014...More.

Item Code: FRA04D
Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 240pg, Full Color
$69.99 $21.99

PLANET COMICS Volume 14 Slipcased
Closeout Price! Limited, 300! Collects #67-73, 1952-53. Highly Recommended. By Joe Doolin, Murphy Anderson, Maurice Whitman et al.
The final volume as Planet goes out with new artists, with more EC-like stories, and grittier sci-fi. Plus those fabulous Maurice Whitman covers! Out of this world yarns from the heroes (and heroines!) of the spaceways, then the old regular features give way to independent stories, with even the art showing the influence of Wally Wood and EC's Weird Science and Weird Fantasy! Killer 10-page, profusely illustrated history of sci-fi in comics by Mike Benton and Roy Thomas.
PS Artbooks, 2016...More.

Item Code: PLC14D
Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 280pg, Full Color

SHEENA QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE Volume 1 Slipcased
Closeout Price! Collects #1-4, 1942-48. Limited, 125. Recommended. Art by Robert Webb and Alex Blum. Foreword by Bill Feret and Bill Black. She may still be everyone's favorite yellow-tressed leopard-skin-clad Jungle Jane. She made her first appearance almost 80 years ago (courtesy of Will Eisner and 'Jerry' Iger), swinging through the trees righting wrongs and wielding her knife and spear. In 1938, she premiered in Jumbo Comics #1 where she settled happily into every issue (165 of them) plus a decade in her own title until April 1953. There have been other incarnations, but it's this classic material that started "Good Girl Art." PS Artbooks, 2014. Out of Print....More.

Closeout Price! Limited, 125! Complete run #1-7, 1950-51. Highly Recommended. By Wallace Wood et al. Here's another highly collected classic in the great tradition of Planet Comics, but from a company very much in the style of Avon, featuring sexy, voluptuous ladies and even wilder monsters and aliens. Spaceships and saucers galore plus the wonderful artwork of the great Wallace Wood and his protégé Joe Orlando, just prior to their move to EC. The lead character, Capt. Science, is a space-faring hero. And there are back-up sci-fi stories by Myron Fass, Vince Napoli, Harry Harrison and others to fill out each issue. PS Artbooks, 2016...More.

Closeout Price! Collects #65-70, 1958. Recommended. By Richard Hughes, Ogden Whitney et al. Tales exploring the supernatural, science fiction and more. More very readable, poignant and fun stories by the great writer/editor Richard Hughes. Whisked back to Egyptian times; seeing your mirror image as an oldster, lost on a planet of giants, or a giant among tiny aliens, apparitions, test pilot to a different dimension. Obviously sci-fi was popular in 1958, sparked by the Sputnik, and you'll find a lot of cool stories here. Very handsomely drawn by Ogden Whitney, John Forte, John Rosenberger, Harry Lazarus and others. PS Artbooks, 2016...More.
