TOLKIEN 2024 Calendar Recommended. This year’s calendar features 13 full-color paintings of scenes from across the Second Age of Middle-earth. Famously described by Tolkien as a “dark age, and not very much of its history is (or need be) told”, for many years readers would need to be content with the tantalizing glimpses of it found within the pages of The Lord of the Rings and its appendices, including the forging of the Rings of Power, the building of the Barad-dûr and the rise of Sauron. Now presented for the first time in calendar form, with two new paintings from Alan Lee, and an insightful introduction by Brian Sibley, Tolkien fans can discover the Second Age in greater depth than ever before. Harper-Collins, 2023....More. Item Code: TOLK24 Calendar, 12x12, 24pg, Full Color $16.99 |

THE JOHN SEVERIN WESTERNS Featuring American Eagle Collects Prize Comics Western #85-113. 1951-55. Our Highest Recommendation. From 1951 to 1955, before and during his legendary EC work, John Severin, Mad artist Will Elder and Two-Fisted Tales writer Colin Dawkins introduced a new level of historical accuracy to the comic-book Western. While Native Americans had generally been vilified or left in the shadows of gun-slinging cowboy heroes, the American Eagle stories featured in Prize Comics Western were built around action-packed tribal intrigues and a heroic Crow warrior. And they are GREAT! Well written and superbly drawn!!! Fantagraphics, 2023. Due: Aug....More. Item Code: JOHWH Hard Cover, 7x11, 488pg, Full Color |

Scotland Bumpsted puts the evil Larceny Lu on the run to California. There she meets Junior’s long-lost mother, who gives Junior a Scotty pup named Oscar and Tracy a way to bring villainous Boris Arson to justice. TEENAGE TUPELO A mammoth volume dedicated to one of the last underground sexploitation films of the 20th century: a nudie cutie time capsule of art, essays, and reviews, along with photos of the beautiful starlets who appeared in Teenage Tupelo. In 1995 Something Weird Video released this cinematic oddity. Filmmaker (and former Fantagraphics cartoonist) John Michael McCarthy created this Elvis-obsessed, autobiographical bump and grind film. Co-produced by exploitation king David F. Friedman (She Freak, 2000 Maniacs). Memphis instrumental combo Impala provided the score, set to the swaying rhythms of starlet D’Lana Tunnell who plays McCarthy’s mother. The music was produced by legendary Sun records' Roland Janes. FRAZETTA BOOK COVER ART The Definitive Reference Deluxe Hurt Deluxe Slipcase with wrap-around art and 16 bonus pages. Our Highest Recommendation. By J. David Spurlock. Frank Frazetta is the revolutionary fantasy artist of Conan, King Kong, Death Dealer, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Lord of The Rings and more, whose original art sells for millions. This 2022 Frazetta book follows the 2021 hit, Fantastic Paintings of Frazetta and is similar to Vanguard's earlier Frazetta Definitive Reference book, but it is superior in at least one regard. Instead of cataloging Frazetta items with mostly smaller illustrations, this offers full page illustrations of just the published book cover art whereby so many fans first discovered him. Blackhawk Vol 2-6 available again This PS Artbooks title has proved VERY popular and we piled up a lot of backorders. Our shipments come from England, and the publisher is notoriously slow and often inaccurate filling some of our reorders. Good news is we just got a big shipment, we are shipping backorders now, and we have volumes 2-6 all in stock as I write this. Blackhawk #1 did not arrive with this shipment, but we have another shipment in transit now, and hopefully it is on that one. Don’t miss the companion series collecting Military Comics beginning with Volume 1, which is where Blackhawk began in 1941. The Blackhawk series itself begins with his own title that began with #9 (#1-8 was Uncle Sam). |
Illustrators Quarterly #40 – Rick Griffin Our latest catalog cover feature—and it’s gone out of print. Aughh. We have just 15 more copies coming in from England from Book Palace. Reserve one now to not miss out. We hope to see it reprinted...but don’t hold your breath... |
New from Twomorrows John Morrow had copies of the new Pacific Comics History and The Best of Simon & Kirby’s Mainline Comics at San Diego Comic-Con last week. We expect to see copies in two to three weeks. I love the Mainline collection, all complete stories including the work Charlton picked up when Mainline sank in 1956. We’ll have these up on the website soon. |

Most other issues are half price, $9.95 to $12.50. My new tribute to my 55+ years as Jim’s friend and sometimes partner, is here on a special page on our website. https://www.budsartbooks.com/jim-vadeboncouer/ We just listed a #1 and a #2 for $75 each, a second ImageS B&W Annual #2 for $50. His book on Everett Raymond Kinstler, published at $95, is still available at $34.95, signed and numbered. The hardcover was $45, now still at $19.95. We hadn’t expected to see a run on ImageS but indeed many have sold since Jim passed away. He’d be pleased to be sharing his favorite artists with you. |
Edgar Rice Burroughs Tarzan series Volumes 17-20 came in recently but I was out of town and only got to editing the descriptions this week. I’m really impressed with the bonus material…as much as 80 pages of it in each volume! Wow. Artwork AND vintage letters. So click on these for updated descriptions detailing the cool bonus material. And man, Joe Jusko is still turning out new cover paintings that are so good. I can’t resist taking these home, even while I have several other editions, from G&D hardcovers to Ballantine and Ace paperbacks. |
Berkeley Comic Show Saturday, August 5th We’ll be setting up again at the next vintage comics show. Old comics, Gold and Silver, plus half-price dinged books from our stock, and more. Come by and say hello. Our favorite fall Sacramento Book Fair has been cancelled this year, due to a lack of dealers (but not the public) at the last few shows. He is planning a TWO-DAY show in the Spring, we have our fingers crossed. ~Bud |
