THE ART OF RON LESSER Volume 1 Deadly Dames and Sexy Sirens
Highly Recommended. By Robert Deis. In the late 1950s, while studying with the legendary art teacher Frank J. Reilly at the Art Students League in New York City, Ron Lesser embarked on a long career as one of America’s top illustration artists. Over the next four decades, his artwork was used for thousands of paperback book covers, movie posters, magazines, and advertisements. The focus of this volume, first in a series, is on the first leg of his career — paperback covers, movie posters, magazines, and ads between 1959 and 1979 that featured images of "dangerous dames," "sexy sirens," and other beautiful women. Subtropic Productions, 2023....More.

MINIATURE MARVELS The Book Cover Art of James E McConnell
352 pages of full color reproductions! Our Highest Recommendation. By Steve Chibnall. James E McConnell was one of the last century’s finest and most prolific commercial artists working in publishing. In a career spanning from the 1930s to the 1970s, McConnell produced hundreds of superb paintings for hardback dust jackets and paperback covers (as well as magazines such as Look and Learn, and advertising posters), working for noted British publishers large and small. Amongst his most celebrated works were covers for Sax Rohmer’s Fu Manchu; John D. Macdonald and James M. Cain thrillers; Berkeley Gray and Vernon Warren crime novels; children’s adventure novels; Edgar Wallace mysteries; and over a dozen Pinnacle paperbacks of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan, Mars and Venus novels. Our Highest Recommendation, By Stephen James Walker and Steve Chibnall. Reginald Heade was an incredibly prolific artist, at the height of his career taking on as many as 100 commissions per year. Plus: the most comprehensive biography of Heade ever, including the first photographs of the artist ever to be published; a detailed checklist of all known published work; many previously-unpublished preparatory sketches and roughs; plus dozens of superb full-page reproductions of Heade's original pulp-fiction cover paintings, showcasing choice examples of his most celebrated work in greater detail and clarity than ever seen before. HANK JANSON UNDER COVER A Visual History
Import from England. Highly Recommended. In this full-color coffee-table art book, noted researcher Stephen James Walker presents a complete visual history of the Hank Janson crime fiction series, from its inception in 1946 through to the last of the original novels in 1971, and beyond. Reproductions of every single cover — including, in full-page size and in better quality than ever seen before, all of the classic Reginald Heade painted covers of the 1940s and 1950s, including his foreign editions. Good girls, bad girls...it's all about racy themes and sex appeal on these vintage covers: nudity, bondage, violence, cleavage... The equivalent U.S. series might be Mike Hammer or Michael Shayne — except Janson was far longer-lived! Telos, 2021....More.

SECRET OF SAN SABA Jack Jackson Signed
Signed bookplate #544 of 600. By Jack Jackson. A tale of phantoms and greed... in the desert southwest, a god made from silver descends from the skies. The Apaches worship its power. BERNET Hardcover
First Edition. By Manuel Auad, art by Jordi Bernet. Edited by Manual Auad, introduced by Will Eisner and foreword by Joe Kubert. From Will Eisner’s introduction of Jordi Bernet: "Here was a man who was producing pure story-telling art. That is art that uses the kind of minimalism so singular to his draftsmanship that is actually a narrative device in itself." A glance through the book shows just how fitting a statement this is and the similarities in style of the two artists becomes very evident. Both have a confident looseness to their brush that seems to offer more visual information than is really there with equally effective layout and page design. A sure sign of an artist at the top of their game and a book worth studying for anyone attempting to master brush, pen and ink. 240 pages of Bernet’s linework, bibliography and awards listing. Auad, 2003. Out of Print. Condition: Very Fine. Mature Readers....More.

THE DRAWINGS OF BERTRAND
By Raymond Bertrand. In this collection of drawings and paintings, Raymond Bertrand invents a female unlike any ever beheld by human eyes. The efflorescent bodies that he [Bertrand] draws out of an invisible humus are the only nature that we belong to here...the wide-open gazes that he gives his amorous algae—gazes more transparent than any pearly sheen beneath their innocent eyelashes—have only themselves as their objects. The flaring nostrils, the pouting, already swollen lips, the careless poses are there, doubtless, to make us realize that our pleasures cannot concern the absent souls of these complete strangers. SORAYAMA HYPER ILLUSTRATIONS VOL. 1 By Hajime Sorayama
By Hajime Sorayama. Sorayama's work Sexy Robot, published by Genko-sha in 1983, made his organic robotic forms famous around the world. For that work, he used ideas from pin-up art, which in the book appear as chrome-plated gynoids in suggestive poses. His next book, Pin-up, continued in the same vein. A number of his other works similarly revolve around figures in suggestive poses, including highly realistic depictions in latex and leather. His pinups appeared frequently in the pages of Penthouse magazine. Bijutsu Shuppan-Sha, 1989. Out of Print. Condition: Very Fine/As New....More.

THE GYNOIDS
By Hajime Sorayama. In the late 1990's, Sorayama was approached by the Sony Corporation to design an organic robotic form. It became the famous "AIBO" dog, now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian Institute of Technology. Intrigued by the effects of light on various metallic surfaces, and always ready for challenges to his technique and imagination, he began to produce a series of female robotic figures in the late 1970's; anatomically correct in form, but appearing to have been fashioned of molten silver. This volume incorporates those images. Treville, 1992. Out of Print. Condition: Very Fine/ As New. Mature Readers....More.

Soft Cover, 10x14, 108pg, Full Color
