LACKADAISY Volume 1 Hardcover Highly Recommended. Deluxe Hardcover in Jacket. By Tracy J. Butler. The cult classic, Eisner Award-nominated webcomic, finally available in a handsome collected edition. It’s 1927 and Prohibition is in full effect in St. Louis, Missouri. Organized crime has risen to meet the relentless demand for illicit alcohol. Bootleggers, gangsters, and might-makes-right rule dominate the city’s underworld, fueled by the patrons of speakeasies like Lackadaisy. In the tradition of Blacksad, a delightful anthropomorphic world... The style of the comic is highly detailed, with elegantly attired cartoon characters that resemble styles from animated films of Walt Disney and Don Bluth. The earlier strips are sepia-toned, resembling aged photographs of the 1920s era, while more recent pages can be seen fully colored, often in shades of deep blue. Launched by Butler in July 2006, the comic updates on an irregular basis, with the most recent update published in 2020. Iron Circus Comics, 2024....More. Item Code: LACKA Hard Cover with Dust Jacket, 10x11, 100pg, Two Color $25.00 |
THE FIERY ARROW Highly Recommended. By Jean Van HammeArt by Christian Cailleaux. Before Blake & Mortimer, Edgar P. Jacobs had created a first comic that has now attained mythical status. This rare strip was a war-time replacement for Flash Gordon in occupied Belgium! Here, at last, is the sequel, penned by the legendary Jean Van Hamme himself. The Marduk expedition has returned victorious to Norlandia, bearing a precious sample of Uradium. Now the professor can test his revolutionary U Ray's potency when combined with the miracle ore. But Austradia, the old enemy, won't take this lying down. So the dastardly Captain Dagon didn't succeed in stopping Marduk from finding the Uradium deposit? No matter! The Imperial Austradian Army will simply take possession of it in a military operation — and who cares if that's where Prince Nazca's people live? Cinebook, 2024....More. Item Code: FIERA Soft Cover, 9x11, 56pg, Full Color $14.95 |
ALSO AVAILABLE THE U RAY Highly Recommended. Before Blake & Mortimer, this rare strip was a war-time replacement for Flash Gordon in occupied Belgium! After assisting Herge on six Tintin albums, Edgar P. Jacobs created a strip that has now attained mythical status — The U Ray. Here it is now, finally translated into English. It is clearly inspired by Alex Raymond’s Flash Gordon and ERB’s Mars and Venus novels. It’s fun and very vintage science-fiction fantasy with lost lands, prehistoric monsters, a lovely heroine, and smart, daring adventurers. Cinebook, 2023....More. I don’t think our initial scans did this book justice. It’s every bit as interesting as the best of the Italian artists found in the Sex and Horror series. In this case though, Cortez is from Brazil and actually dates back a little farther, doing his horror work in the 1950s and 1960s. Check it out, some wild stuff here. I quite like a lot of his work, and the pictures of his models and the resulting paintings are a bonus treat you rarely see from an illustrator. [TERRH. $29.99]. |

This new sci-fi graphic novel from Humanoids came in just a week or two ago. It caught my eye, I took it home and read it in two sittings. I came back and rewrote my description after that, and raised my recommendation from just Recommended to Highly Recommended. I really liked the artwork, the unique, well-characterized players in the story, and the unusual plot. Check it out! [EDENSC. $22.99]. |
