The new Spectrum is here, once again outstanding. Linsner's Girls & Goddesses is now half price, and we have a new signed Dawn comic from him, too. There's now a second massive W. Heath Robinson collection, and a revised one of J.W. Godward. The fabled Mort Cinder by Breccia is finally collected, as is another legendary strip: Warren Tuft's Lance. Disney Masters 1 & 2 get slipcased. I really like the Dell Comics Peanuts Archives, with never-before-collected Peanuts comics. And it's gift time with Yoe's Great Treasury of Christmas Comic Book Stories! |

J.W. GODWARD 1861-1922 The Eclipse of Classicism New Revised Edition. Highly Recommended. By Vern G. Swanson. Art by J.W. Godward. John William Godward (1861-1922) was among the brightest stars of the late Graeco-Roman painters during classicism's twilight years. Some believe he equalled Alma-Tadema in his depiction of marble and flowers and Frederic Leighton in his depiction of drapery. I like to compare him to Maxfield Parrish, since he also discovered the value of appealing young women, nude or partially clothed. That became a favorite subject for him, as it did for Parrish a generation later. Acc Art Books, 2018...More. Item Code: JWGODH Hard Cover, 9x12, 368pg, Full Color $95.00 |
VERY HEATH ROBINSON Stories of His Absurdly Ingenious World Highly Recommended. By Adam Hart-Davis. Art by Heath Robinson. A big, thick volume of delightful innovation by the prolific artist and humorist who loved to poke fun at the conventions of his day. From the lost world of the Edwardians through to the Thirties and Forties, he charted the rise of machines, from cars to dishwashers, and new ways of living in a series of wonderfully absurd illustrations. Heath Robinson revelled in complicated gadgetry, whimsicality and naughtiness. His charm and wit are universal, teasing a smile or even a full-blooded guffaw from all who encounter his gentle commentaries on human foibles. He even gave his name to a dictionary definition. Sheldrake, 2017...More. Item Code: VERH Hard Cover, 11x11, 240pg, Partial Color $60.00 |
ALSO AVAILABLE HEATH ROBINSON'S COMMERCIAL ART A Compendium of His Advertising Work Import from England. Highly Recommended. By Geoffrey Beare. Heath Robinson (1872-1944) is fondly regarded for his mischievous comic illustrations that have been enjoyed for generations. For the first time the advertising work of this incredibly versatile artist takes center stage in this meticulously researched and lavishly illustrated book, collecting countless scarce and rare images. For a diverse range of clients, Robinson's inventiveness, humor, artistic skill and professionalism made him the obvious choice to advertise their products, which ranged from asbestos cement roofing to liquor, train travel and bread. Oversized with many color plates. Lund Humphries, 2017...More. Item Code: HEARH Hard Cover, 10x11, 256pg, Partial Color $80.00 |

MAX TURNER'S FIGURE SKETCHES Signed Signed! Recommended. By Max Turner. Max Turner's latest self-published book showcases his drawings and paintings, with a strong emphasis on the female nude. 120 drawings and paintings show a strong influence of Turner's one-time teacher, Hal Reed, a student of the unequalled painter Nicolai Fechin. Turner himself is now a veteran teacher and more recently, a sculptor. “I have found that when approaching the figure, one should begin with the gesture. After having captured the essence or feeling of the pose, one can then proceed to build on it,” showing emotion, movement and expression. B-Y Publishing, 2018. Mature Readers...More. THE MOON From Inner Worlds to Outer Space By Marie Laurberg, Anja C. Andersen et al. The moon has long furnished humankind with an artistic icon, an image of longing and object of scientific inquiry. Encompassing art, film, literature, architecture, design, natural history and historical objects, and published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first manned landing (July 20, 1969), The Moon surveys the iconography of the moon, from Romantic landscape paintings to space-age art. It takes the 1969 landing as a thematic fulcrum and a culmination of the deep-rooted cultural conceptions invested in the space race in the 1960s, from David Bowie to Disney. PEANUTS DELL ARCHIVE 1957-62. Highly Recommended. By Charles Schulz. In collection for the first time ever! His travels through time, space, and the darkest corners of humanity are shown from the point of view of Ezra Winston, an antiquarian who becomes Mort's companion. Dark Horse EC Archives – Going Away Dark Horse has lost the license to do the EC titles. They still have a couple in the works, but they have cut back on the print runs on the last titles so that at least one sold out before we got a reorder in. I am bringing in a very limited number to keep them available as long as we can, but heads up, they will be going away as our supply runs out. See all available titles on our website26 different titles. Amazing. I like them and they have done very well, particularly those never before done as an archive title like War Against Crime, Valor, Aces High, Panic, and coming soon, Piracy.
