Dark Horse, 2026.

Item Code: BLACBO
Paperback, 7X10, 216 pg, Full Color
$29.99 $26.99

I've been a fan of Francesco Francavilla since his days at Archie Comics, where he defined the look and feel of Archie's Horror line with his covers and interiors on their genre-twisting title, Afterlife with Archie. The Eisner Award-winning Italian writer/artist is also a big fan of the pulps, and posts work regularly to his online blog Pulp Sunday, where he created the serialized adventures of his pulp-inspired hero, The Black Beetle in 2009.

The character is a masked vigilante who calls Colt City home. The masked hero went from Francavilla's blogsite to comic books at Dark Horse in 2012, where he was the star of a mini-series, a one-shot #0 issue, and first a serialized run in the pages of Dark Horse Presents. Now, the pulp‑noir series is collected in an omnibus edition, including every complete adventure as well as plenty of background material. If pulp heroes or masked vigilantes of the '30s and '40s are your thing, I think you'll love Francesco Francavilla's The Black Beetle! ~Marty

Item Code: AIRB03
Paperback, 7X10, 184 pg, Full Color
$32.99

When Eclipse Comics revived Airboy in 1986 with the team of Chuck Dixon and Timothy Truman, I was hooked! At the time though, I was woefully unaware of the original Hillman Periodicals series from the 1940s... but soon after learning about these Golden Age greats, I went looking for back-issues. Thankfully, our Comics & Comix stores had some low grade issues in their back-issue bins, which I snapped up cheerfully, thanks to my generous employee discount! But once I left C&C, that discount was no more, and back-issues started to get pricey. Fast forward to recent times, and thanks to the archivists at PS Artbooks, those classic adventures of Airboy, Skywolf, the Heap and others are once again in budget and within reach, thanks to their great, collected editions! And this third volume is another good one, filled with plenty of solid aviation adventure tales. This is some fun stuff! ~Marty

I remember the week we received the first issue of Fantagraphics' Love and Rockets at the Citrus Heights Comics & Comix store back in 1981. I was a Northen California kid, but the characters in Jaime Hernandez's "Locas" LA stories resonated with me. I saw many of my friends from that era mirrored in the characters within these stories. And Jaime's "Mechanics" tales had a Kirbyesque flavor to them that I really dug. There's a bit of Archie to be found within these tales, all of the characters are young and display the fashions and attitudes of their world, and the Archie comics were always very good at following the trends of the day. These are just really enjoyable stories, with characters that you can root for and wish they were part of your real world. Honestly, who wouldn't want friends like Maggie and Hopey? ~Marty

DC Comics, 2026.

Item Code: DEMHE
Paperback, 7X10, 296 pg, Full Color

Garth Ennis is one of my favorite writers. I've followed his career over the years from the UK to Marvel to DC and back again. But it was his work on DC's The Demon with artist John McCrea (taking over from writer Alan Grant with issue #40) that really stuck with me. Ennis and McCrea took the already crazy and raucous series and turned it to "11", with one ridiculous (yet entertaining!) situation after another. Add to this the first appearance of Tommy Monaghan, a.k.a. "Hitman", and you have the makings of a supernatural comedy classic. I don't know how Jack Kirby would have thought of their version of Etrigan, but I'm thinking he'd have been okay with it. ~Marty

And these titanic talents burned brightest around Batman’s newest and deadliest foe—the immortal Ra’s al Ghul! DC Comics, 2026.

Our amazing Mikala took a well deserved vacation last week. Once back, she saw the 2001: A Space Odyssey book, and quickly became engrossed. Here is her take:

This film is easily in the top 5 for me: a monumental building block for the science-fiction film genre with tinges of mind-altering cosmic horror, a technological triumph by the best to ever do it (RIP Kubrick!). And now, Taschen has put together this book filled with
behind-the-scenes pictures, pre-production concepts, and so much more, all meticulously researched and collected here for us to enjoy.~Mikala
