Also a history of crime comics, a look at pioneer Fred Guardineer, and "Three Panel Crimes," an interesting retro Instagram sensation. Here's the inside story on these varied aspects of crime comics and illustration; Sean Phillips' work is amazing (he did this cover) and well covered with fine reproductions. PRE-CODE CLASSICS WORLDS OF FEAR Volume 2
Closeout Price! Limited, 700! Collects #6-10, 1952-53. Recommended. By Norman Saunders (covers), Bernard Baily, Shelly Moldoff et al. From the magical days of 1952 and featuring artists and writers such as Sheldon Moldoff, Bernard Baily, Moe Marcus, Bob McCarty (his work is this collection's highlight, with a fine story in every single issue), and Norman Saunders. Crossing horror and SF has never been more enjoyable. Lock the door, flip the tab on a can of soda and delve into those potato chips. Completes the series, including a classic "drowning cover" and the iconic "man with no eyes" Saunders cover & eyes ripped out story in the last issue! PS Artbooks, 2017....More.

Item Code: PCWOF02H

$59.99 $19.95

PRE-CODE CLASSICS WORLDS OF FEAR Volume 1
Closeout Price! Limited, 1700! Collects #1-5, 1951-53. Highly Recommended. By Bernard Baily, George Evans, Sekowsky, Powell et al. From Fawcett, it's 1952 and the best artists in the studio were working hard to outdo the competition over at EC Comics. Sheldon Moldoff, Bernard Baily (with some killer covers), Bob Powell (four top-drawer stories), George Evans (in his best EC style), Mike Sekowsky, Moe Marcus, Bob McCarty (under-rated but fine arist), Harry Harrison (Wally Wood's studio-mate and collaborator) and painter Norman Saunders! Lurid, fun horror and sci-fi. PS Artbooks, 2017....More.

Item Code: PCWOF01H
Hard Cover, 7x10, 180pg, Full Color

PRE-CODE CLASSICS WEIRD ADVENTURES THRILLERS Volume 1
Closeout Price! Collects Weird Adventures #1, 1951, and Weird Thrillers # 1-5, 1951-1952. Highly Recommended. By Frank Giacola, Alex Toth, Murphy Anderson, Sy Barry et al. Sporting what must surely be one of the finest (albeit short) runs of painted covers, Ziff Davis's Weird Thrillers and the one-shot (numbered 10, go figure) Weird Adventures remain one of the field's most overlooked entries. Until now. Here also are Gene Colan, Bob Powell, Geroge Tuska, Bill Everett and Joe Kubert! These issues are in a class by themselves, as well as being some great sci-fi, fantasy and horror. And, oh, the covers...each one is a gem. PS Artbooks, 2016....More.

PRE-CODE CLASSICS WEIRD HORRORS Volume 1
Closeout Price! Collects #1-5, 1952. Recommended. Art by Pete Morisi (PAM), Gus Ricca, George Tuska, Charles Sultan et al. St. John's criminally overlooked Weird Horrors has a cover style that's a riff on Marvel's later and much-loved Amazing Adult Fantasy. And believe me, you'll have to go a long way to match this first volume, with work from Gus Ricca, George Tuska, Charles Sultan, Bob Forgione, Enrico Bagnoli, Rafael Astarita, Paul Gattuso, Don Perlin and Albert Tyler, many of whom are not household names though their styles deserve for them to be right up there with the very best. #3 has a hashish story! PS Artbooks, 2018....More.

Item Code: PCWH01H
Hard Cover, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color
$44.99 $19.95

PRE-CODE CLASSICS WEB OF MYSTERY Volume 1
Closeout Price! Collects #1-6, 1951. Recommended. Art by Lou Cameron, Gene Colan, Mike Sekowsky et a Here comes the first volume of Ace Comics' horror title, one that I personally like quite a bit. Artist Lou Cameron is an unsung name from this time; his Time Machine for Classics Illustrated is his best known work, but early on he was doing superior and imaginative artwork sometimes as good as a Frazetta or Williamson. And here's Mike Sekowsky, between his career beginning at Timely and ending up at DC Comics. PS Artbooks, 2018....More.

Item Code: PCW01H
Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 216pg, Full Color

PRE-CODE CLASSICS VOODOO Volume 1
Closeout Price! Collects #1-7, 1952-53. Recommended. Art by Robert Webb, Matt Baker et al. Okay, horror fans, check out the seven blood-soaked and brain-damaged gore-fests that make up the first seven issues of Voodoo, boasting an artist line-up that includes Robert Webb, Matt Baker, and the entire Iger Shop. Here are reprints of two rare Baker South Sea Girl stories as well as Rulah, plus more Baker stories plus the best of the Iger Shop emulating Baker. Some fun and iconic covers on these first issues, including a man stabbed in the face, noted in Overstreet. PS Artbooks, 2018....More.

Item Code: PCV01H
Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 256pg, Full Color
$59.99 $19.95

PRE-CODE CLASSICS THE UNSEEN Volume 2
Closeout Price! Collects The Unseen #11-15 & Who Is Next? #5, 1953-54. Recommended. By Alex Toth, Nicky Cardy, George Tuska, Gene Fawcette et al. It was the 1950's “ the Atomic Age, the Cold War, and just before the Space Race. Comics books were the education, the entertainment, and, according to some, the downfall of America. What a great time! We loved to be scared— still do, it seems—from the comfort of our own home, secure in the knowledge that there's no real danger (or so we think). Final issues of this excellent series from Standard, along with Who Is Next?, a suspense one-shot featuring a town terrorized by a serial killer. PS Artbooks, 2018....More.

Item Code: PCEUN02H
Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 216pg, Full Color
$49.99 $19.95

PRE-CODE CLASSICS THE UNSEEN Volume 1
Closeout Price! Collects #5-10 (#1-5), 1952-53. Highly Recommended. By Alex Toth, Nick Cardy, John Fawcette, Mike Sekowsky, John Celardo, Jack Katz, Mike Esposito & Ross Andru et al. It was the 1950's — the Atomic Age, the Cold War, and just before the Space Race. But nothing could match the imagination, the surprise, and the chilling-of-your-spine like the great horror comics of yesteryear. Some of the best non-EC horror stories came out of tiny publisher Standard, whose all-star artist Alex Toth set a high standard for his fellows. Both Mike Ross (Mike Esposito and Ross Andru) and Mike Sekowsky offer multiple wonderful Toth-style stories, inspired by the master. Jack Katz does his over-the-top thing. PS Artbooks, 2017....More.

PRE-CODE CLASSICS UNKNOWN WORLD & STRANGE STORIES FROM ANOTHER WORLD Volume 1
Closeout Price! Collects Unknown World #1, 1952 and Strange Stories from Another World #2-5, 1952-53. Covers by Norman Saunders, art by Bob McCarty, Harry Anderson, Shelly Moldoff et al. Ask yourself as you gaze at the magnificently-rendered splash page of "The Serpent Queen" with art by Bob McCarty, from the one-shot anthology Unknown World #1 (1952), "What is the significance of a leashed one-eyed snake in this panel?" This title continued with Strange Stories from Another World, for four more issues (#2 to #5), every one featuring lushly painted covers by Norman Saunders. Each also boasts one or more stories by the under-rated but fine artist Bob McCarty. PS Artbooks, 2017....More.

PRE-CODE CLASSICS TOM CORBETT SPACE CADET Volume 2
Closeout Price! Limited, 700! #8-11 and Vol 2 #1-3, 1954-55. Recommended. By Al McWilliams, John Lehti, Frank Thorne, Mort Meskin et al. I never got to see the Tom Corbett TV show but I've eagerly tracked down all these cool issues from Dell and Prize. This is SF as it should be, with "space" substituted for "science". Here we see the wonder and unbelievable expanse of the cosmos that surrounds us, ringed planets and moons, space pirates, lost races, and even a spaceship graveyard. This book is for every boy that lives secretly inside every man who ever marveled at the saucer spaceship in Forbidden Planet. PS Artbooks, 2017....More.

Item Code: PCTCSC02H
Hard Cover, 7x10, 180pg, Full Color
$59.99 $19.95

PRE-CODE CLASSICS TOM CORBETT SPACE CADET Volume 1
Closeout Price! Limited, 1700! Collects #1-7, 1952-54, including the first three Four-Colors. Highly Recommended. By Alden McWilliams, John Lehti, Frank Thorne et al. Al McWilliams went on to draw Twin Earths, the long-running space strip—here he shows his incredible skill with fully painted covers, some of the best of the 1950s. He also does the inside art for the first two issues. One of the great Dell titles of the early 1950s, complete with stills and notes from the wildly popular television show that this is based on. Much like DC's Tommy Tomorrow, a clean-cut young team of spacemen tackling adventures on other worlds: space pirates, lost races, and even a spaceship graveyard. Fun stuff! Incredibly great painted covers throughout. PS Artbooks, 2017....More.

Item Code: PCTCSC01H
Hard Cover, 7x10, 252pg, Full Color
$59.99 $19.95
We also restocked a small handful of titles that had been offered before but sold out. Our previous PS sale from a couple years ago was very popular and a great many titles sold out. We do have small quantities of some of these older on-sale titles. Click here to see all 217 PS Artbooks, beginning with the lowest priced. MANDY FRAMED Signed Hurt
Signed. Highly Recommended. By Dean Yeagle. Since 2008, Dean has created more than 600 Mandy works as special commissions for gallery shows and for collectors. Here he collects these never-before-seen works. Here's every variation on Mandy, but with that one common theme...she's caught in a nude or almost nude pose, surprise on her face and big innocent eyes. "Cross-Country Blast With 'Satan's Riders'" ... "Cycle Queens of Violence" ... The headlines in classic men's adventure magazines sure could paint a picture ... and so could the masters of pulp art who illustrated them! ART DECO By Markus Hattstein Hurt
Highly Recommended. Art Deco is the decorative, distinctly aesthetic style of the years between 1920 and 1940. The movement embraced all areas of lifestyle and art. Art Deco was a commitment to functionaity and modern technology, from autos to industrial design. With over 500 illustrations, this volume showcases the complexity of the Art Deco style and its manifestations in architecture, fashion, advertising, everyday objects, transport, graphics like books and magazines, and other areas of life, with examples worldwide. MARVEL MASTERS OF SUSPENSE Stan Lee & Steve Ditko Omnibus Volume 1 Hurt
1956-61: 136 amazing stories. Our Highest Recommendation. Before Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, Steve Ditko applied his incomparable art and storytelling mastery to taut suspense-thrillers—cast with nervous-eyed dreamers and sweaty-palmed schemers, none of whom make it out with getting their just desserts. Here you get every single one of Ditko's stories of suspense for Marvel (and Atlas) in two beautifully restored Omnibus volumes. From his very first Marvel work in 1956 through to his last five-page masterpiece, every Silver Age tale is collected here. Marvel, 2019. Slightly bumped corners....More.

Cyber Sale 2020

This went out as a special mailing on November 20. If you didn't receive it, make sure you are signed up for these: check the EMAILS SUBSCRIPTION box on our home page. Click here to see the entire list of 90 plus new CLOSEOUT items, all in VERY short supply.

Gone Items no longer on Website: New Policy

Items that are completely sold out and cannot be backordered will no longer appear on our website. Previously, until a few weeks ago, we kept these on for several weeks, so that people searching for them would see their status and not search in vain for them.

This also meant you had to wade through a number of out of stock permanently items, until we cleared them out by hand. No longer…for good or bad. Now they will come off the website once gone…for instance, CYBER SALE items that are gone will now simply disappear. If you do a search by CODE, and don't find something, double check your code and try again. You can also search by title, but the search engine searches by each word in the title, not by the phrase (putting something in quotes does not work)…so you can do this, but you'll have to wade through more items to find what you are looking for. Searches by CODE will always take you straight to the item, if we still have it.

2021 Calendars Update

Three titles have been cancelled: YISM Models, Lingerie Provocative (we still have another lingerie title), and Worlds of Fiction. Also, as noted in the new catalog, Daniel Merriam sold out early again this year. Lorenzo's Spurlonga's Forbidden Calendar [FOR21. $19.95] just arrived today, and Elias Chatzoudis' Zodiac Calendar [ZOD21. $19.99] ships in mid-December! These are both specialty items, not widely distributed. You might take a look.

Collector's Supplies

Our supplier has decided to retire. For some years he has been personally running a truck delivery route down from Oregon, to ourselves as well as comic stores. We've laid in lots of extras on everything we handle from him, in preparation for changing suppliers and probably raising some prices as our own cost goes up. For now, we have not changed any prices. That said, supply of some things, such as mylites and mylars, has been very spotty since the pandemic hit; we're still waiting for our big reorder on these. I recommend you order up now, like we have, figuring changes may be coming next year.

Hermes Publishing

To make a long story short…we've had issues keeping their titles in stock for some time. This includes all the Phantom titles, Johnny Hazard, Walt Kelly's Pogo Comics, Peter Wheat, Dark Shadows, Best of Roy Rogers, Frank Thorne titles, etc.

We've always liked publisher Daniel Hermes and enjoy his books, but his shipping department is, to put it frankly, very poor. They don't ship reorders promptly; they don't ship new releases promptly (one just arrived seven weeks after its general release); and they pack poorly, so we get damages. Our complaints have resulted not in better service, but in the people in charge of shipping cutting us off. Now we have to order their books from Diamond Comic Distributors, which comes with a new set of problems. Lower discount, for one. Damages again, for another. But the biggest deal is that Diamond does not keep their books in stock. We reorder books, they don't show up, and then Diamond cancels our order automatically. Then we have to cancel YOUR orders. Meanwhile the book is still available from Hermes.

You begin to see our issue? So, I am going to pad up our initial orders for new books, as much as I can. Then once we run out, if Diamond hasn't copies on hand, we'll have to drop the book. And that means that back volumes will also be dropping off our list as we run out. Our hands have been tied on this, as much as I want to continue to handle their line. So be aware of this; reserve your copies early or at least order new titles promptly while we still have copies.

Overstreet Goes Back to Press

We just got word that both the Hardcover and Softcover Overstreet are sold out. The softcover is already being reprinted and will be available Dec 16 [CB50S. $29.95]. The hardcover will not be reprinted (if you have one on backorder with us, let us know if you want to swap to a SC or if you want a refund). The Big Big Overstreet is also sold out, but we have two copies left [BIG50. $49.50].

Gift Certificates

Just a reminder that we have gift certificates available in case you don't know what to get the art lover in your life. They are offered in $10 increments. Just add to your cart and change the quantity to the amount desired.

Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Holiday!

~Bud
