BLAXPLOITATION CINEMA The Essential Reference Guide
By Josiah Howard. Blaxploitation Cinema: The Essential Reference Guide will become the primary reference book on the genre, covering not just the films' heyday (1971-1976) but the entire decade (1970-1980). From Aaron Loves Angela to The Zebra Killer, they're all here in one indispensable volume. Complimenting the text of Blaxploitation Cinema: The Essential Reference Guide are many of the vivid, highly-theatrical, motion picture posters and ads that promoted the films. Blaxploitation's rich and colourful poster art has been the sole subject of a number of coffee-table books. The hand-painted, elaborately illustrated posters and ad campaigns associated with the genre represent a now-gone golden era of sensational motion picture representation. Also features page after page of stunning action stills and original newspaper admats. FAB Press, 2021....More

The tale involves spirit possession, astral projection, the many-worlds theory, and an inter-dimensional otherworldly queer romance that is centuries ahead of its time. THE ART OF PULP FICTION An Illustrated History of Vintage Paperbacks
Highly Recommended. Introduction by Richard A. Lupoff. The Art of Pulp Fiction: An Illustrated History of Vintage Paperbacks chronicles the history of pocket-sized paper bound books designed for mass-market consumption, specifically concentrating on the period from 1940 to 1970. These three decades saw paperbacks eclipse cheap pulp magazines and expensive cloth bound books as the most popular delivery vehicle for escapist fiction. To catch the eyes of potential buyers they were adorned with covers that were invariably vibrant, frequently garish, and occasionally lurid. Today the early paperbacks--like the earlier pulps, inexpensively produced and considered disposable by casual readers--are treasured collector's items. IDW, 2021. Due: Sep. ...More

FIVE HUNDRED YEARS OF BRITISH ART Hurt
Tate Britain is the home of British art from 1500 to the present day. This guide to the collection provides an essential introduction to the extraordinary development of British art over the centuries: from van Dyke, Hogarth and Reynolds, to Sargent, Burne-Jones and Waterhouse, to the modernists Stanley Spencer, Paul Nash and Francis Bacon. About half the book covers our area of interest, paintings up to 1900 or so; the latter half features abstract, cubist and modern art, which I admit I personally have little feel for. Paul's Martian of the 1930s), blob-like B-movie aliens of the 1950s, "realistic" aliens as featured in the 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind (supposedly based on the real alien found at Roswell), monstrous aliens such as H.R. Giger's creature in Ridley Scott's 1979 movie Alien, the friendly alien (a thin creature with hands and a tortoise-like head) that's the "hero" of Spielberg's 1982 movie, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, aerial predator aliens with giant wings (as created by Wayne Barlow for his book Expedition, in 1990)--and many more.
