THUNDER HUNTERS Signed
Almost Gone! Signed! Highly Recommended. Artist and adventurer J.V. Holbrook has traversed and recorded the natural history of an uncharted planet. Thunder Hunters is the unique cross section of his sketches, journal entries, sequential stories, and portraits of inhabitants and the expansive Vermillion Sands region, a world not unlike Moebius or Berni Wrightson might have created! Mark Nelson's brilliantly imaginative creatures are the highlight here, and his stunning use of color. This highly successful Kickstarter project showcases his attention to detail and love of this newly explored alien domain, revealing a never before seen world of myth, culture, landscape and wildlife. THE ART OF THE CLASSIC WESTERN MOVIE POSTERS
Highly Recommended. Edited by Ed Hulse. Acknowledging the iconic, but with plenty of room for the rare and unfamiliar, poster art created for several hundred westerns produced from 1903 to 1978. 800 images, many reproduced as full-page, make this the most comprehensive book of western movie poster art ever published, and the definitive history of a genre often underestimated for its impact on American audiences. One of the earliest narrative films, 1903’s The Great Train Robbery, was a western, and before commercial cinema was a decade old the form had proliferated to such an extent that practically every nickelodeon in the country used short-length shoot-’em-ups in their daily programs. Schiffer, 2024. ...More.

ANY GUN CAN PLAY The Essential Guide to Euro-Westerns
New edition. Highly Recommened. By Kevin Grant. Foreword by Franco Nero. The full, vibrant history of the Euro-Western. The success of Sergio Leone's Man with No Name trilogy in the 60s sparked a gold rush, as a legion of European film-makers, many of them sharing the get-rich-quick mentality of Leone's mercenary anti-heroes, created the wildest Westerns ever made. Cynical and stylish, bloody and baroque, Euro-Westerns replaced straight-shooting sheriffs and courageous cowboys with amoral adventurers, whose murderous methods would shock the heroes of Hollywood Westerns. FAB Press, 2022....More.

KABUMPO IN OZ
Highly Recommended. By Ruth Plumly Thompson. This is the 16th book of Oz, and the 2nd written by Ruth Plumly Thompson. This new hardcover edition of the 1922 book features a new cover and interior illustrations by Eisner nominated artist Sara Richard. On Prince Pompadore's 18th birthday, his cake explodes, revealing a magic scroll, a magic mirror, and a doorknob. The scroll warns the prince that if he doesn't wed a "proper princess" within seven days, his entire kingdom will disappear. He and the kingdom's wise elephant Kabumpo embark on a new adventure to the Emerald City to marry Princess Ozma. But when they finally arrive, they find the princess and her palace...are gone! CAPTAIN AMERICA Omnibus Volume 4
Collects Captain America #193-214; Annual #3-4 and more, 1975-76. Recommended. It’s the return of the King! In 1975, Jack "King" Kirby returned to Marvel and his iconic co-creation Captain America. Serving as writer, artist and editor, it was Kirby unleashed! He devised an intricate story line that built month after month toward America’s Bicentennial and Captain America #200. In the "Madbomb" saga, an aristocratic cabal seeks to wrest control of the country by possessing the American people’s minds...and driving them to insane outbreaks of violence! Then, the Falcon is lost in an other-dimensional asylum — that’s run by the inmates! The tale of the Night People and Agron the Unburied One is a tense sci-fi horror thriller. Atlas Comics Library

ATLAS COMICS LIBRARY Number 2 Venus Volume 2
Collects Venus #10-19, 1950-52. Our Highest Recommendation. In the late 1940s, Marvel Comics predecessors Timely and Atlas Comics published Venus, a lighthearted romance comic about the goddess of love. Never a company to miss a trend, Atlas introduced science fiction and made her a superhero — then made the title a straight-out horror anthology. Today it's one of the most desirable pre-code titles. Here is the swift-changing second half of the 19-issue run — all the very best issues! Future Marvel stars Bill Everett (seven issues) and Werner Roth (three issues) take Venus to heights of four-color weirdness and pre-Code horror ghastliness. Fantagraphics, 2024....More.

ATLAS AT WAR
Our Highest Recommendation. Art by Russ Heath, John Severin, Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Syd Shores, Don Heck et al. Edited by Michael J. Vassallo. Fifty hard-hitting stories from Atlas, the company that became Marvel Comics. Each one hand-picked by Vassallo, a comics historian and world-renowned authority on Timely/Atlas. Marvel published more war titles than anyone in the industry, between 1951 and 1960, and were strongly influenced, at their best, by Kurtzman's EC stories. If you think EC and DC were the only publishers doing poignant, powerful and well-drawn war stories, read this and have your head turned around. This is good. Dead Reckoning, 2020....More.

Hurts…Blemished Books…whatever you want to call them, they are bargain priced generally for very minor issues. We take these to shows and customers look at them and ask, what’s the problem? Sometimes I’m even hard put to find the issue; usually a small dent to a corner, or maybe two.

Click here to see all 92 (as I write this) of our Blemished Books; as mentioned last week, many are down to just one or two copies, so it pays to act quickly if you see something you want.

THE WORLD OF GUWEIZ The Art of Gu Zheng Wei Hurt
Highly Recommended. 1 million followers on Instagram! Following on from his first book, Guweiz: The Art of Gu Zheng Wei (2020), the artist now takes us deeper into his world of beautifully painted artwork, which features beautiful girls, often warriors, in manga-inspired dark settings. Guweiz provided the cover artwork for the popular Asian Illustration also from 3dtotal. It contains a special feature on his work. We find him incredibly polished and imaginative, transcending far beyond the usual Manga motifs to bring his work a fine art style very much in the Realism genre of tradition-inspired work. 3dtotal Publishing, 2023. A history and homage to nearly four hundred movies and television shows featuring swashbucklers, knights, pirates, samurai, Vikings, gladiators, outlaw heroes like Zorro and Robin Hood, and anyone else who lives by the blade and solves their problems with the point of a sword. Though swordplay thrives as a mainstay of current pop culture— whether Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings or Star Wars — swashbuckling was if anything even more ubiquitous during Hollywood’s classic period, from its foundations in the Silent Era up through the savage bursts of fantasy films in the '80s. Software Upgrades…continued

We are working very hard resolving some of the issues that came along with our recent upgrade to a new version of our inventory software. One big issue was that I was unable to do reordering for seven weeks; I normally closely examine sales every week, or at least every other week, and place reorders to the publishers.

As I was finally working on this yesterday, I could see that several of the new books in our new catalog sold out before I was able to place reorders. I apologize--several key new items are on backorder until our next shipment arrives. Here’s a couple of those items temporarily out of stock:

FAFHRD AND THE GRAY MOUSER Omnibus SC

MARVEL FEBRUARY 1964 Omnibus HC
