ART OF POSUKA DEMIZU
Highly Recommended. We really, really like this. Stunning fantasy/sci-fi artwork, often starring a lovely young manga-style girl. Posuka Demizu is a rising star whose new title, The Promised Neverland, created with co-author Kaiu Shirai, is currently running in the popular manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. This first collection of Posuka's work features outstanding art from his career AND new illustrations created especially for this edition. Here's a guy we should be seeing in the Spectrum annual. We like this so much, I held copies back from taking them to San Diego so we could satisfy orders from this email. We may have a short wait for more copies from the U.S. distributor, once our initial stock sells out.

TO LAUGH THAT WE MAY NOT WEEP The Life & Times of Art Young
Highly Recommended. By Art Young, Art Spiegelman and Frank Young. Edited by Glenn Bray. To Laugh That We May Weep is a long-awaited tribute to one of the great lost cartoonists whose work is as relevant in the 21st century as it was in its own time. A sweeping career retrospective, reprinting —often for the first time in 60 or 70 years— over 800 of Young's timeless, charming, and devastating cartoons and illustrations, many reproduced from original artwork, to create a fresh new portrait of this towering figure in the worlds of cartooning and politics. With essays by Art Spiegelman, Justin Green, Art Young biographer Marc Moorash, Anthony Mourek, and Glenn Bray, with a biographical overview of Young's life and work by Frank M. Young. OF MENUS AND MYTHOLOGY Late Nineteenth-Century Print Graphics
Recommended. By Franz Von Stuck. This early collection of graphic designs by German artist Franz von Stuck (1863–1928) features images intended for menu cards, wine lists, and other food service applications. Although produced for commercial use, the artist's excellent draftsmanship, clean graphic designs, and imaginative use of mythological subjects signal his later development as a leader of the Symbolist movement. Cherubs abound, but we also have some lovely mermaids, centaurs, and conventional men and women. Dover, 2017...More.

LIFE AND ART OF ALFRED KUBIN
New Introduction by Gregor Sebba. By Alfred Kubin. The pen-and-ink drawings featured in this compilation include grotesques from his "Dance of Death" sequence, which employs a Renaissance theme to reflect the artist's interpretation of modern society and its rapid changes, as well as illustrations from his phantasmagorical novel The Other Side, which portrays a dream kingdom dedicated to the rejection of progress. Blending vision and technical mastery, Kubin's art offers fascinating glimpses into a hallucinatory dream world. Dover, 2017...More.

Laure: The Uncensored Erotic Odyssey DVD is written and directed by Emmanuelle Arsan. Her tantalizing memoir, Emmanuelle, shocked the world and its infamous film adaptation changed X-rated cinema forever. Now the real Emmanuelle brings her own lush vision of total sexual abandon to the screen, and co-stars with the “succulent” Annie Belle.

Coming in September is a new bargain-priced Sorayama: Complete Masterworks. I think it's a lower priced, and smaller sized version of the $90 Sorayama XL Masterworks that came out in 2014, but it may be at least partially different and have some newer material. We won't know until we review it.

News and Notes

Sam Glanzman

This is from Drew Ford, who has been putting together the latest books of Sam’s work. “It is my sad duty to inform you all that on Wednesday, July 12th, at 2:30am, Sam Glanzman passed away...In lieu of sending cards and flowers, his wife Sue asks that you instead contribute to the GoFundMe page we currently have running. Not much else I can say at this point...we lost a great one.”

Sam was working way back before World War II, for Centaur and Harvey (including The Green Hornet Comics). When the war came he enlisted in the Navy, serving for the duration onboard the destroyer U.S.S. Stevens in the Pacific theatre, which saw its share of action. In 1950 he returned to comics, first doing true adventure stories work for Heroic, then moving to Charlton, and eventually settling at DC, doing his highly regarded war comics series.

In the last few years he’d done some wonderful new work about those war experiences, and we’ve been pleased to handle each new collection. Here is a good Wikipedia entry about his career. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Glanzman Below are the collections currently available from us:

The Unauthorized Tarzan [UNTH. $29.99]
A Sailor’s Story [SAIS. $19.95, your price $17.95]
U.S.S. Stevens: The Collected Stories [UST $39.95, your price $34.95]
Attu: The Collected Volumes [ATTUC. $19.95, your price $17.95]

Red Range by Joe Lansale and Sam Glanzman is on the way to us as I write this. The Deluxe signed is $60 and is now on our site. The $17.99 softcover will be online as soon as it arrives. Sam signed the deluxe copies before he passed away. Drew Ford also is working on Voyage to the Deep by Sam. Watch for more information on this, it is still in production.

San Diego Comic-Con

We’re packing right now and hope to see you there, July 19-23. Once again, we are in a new location, J-04, at the end of the 1100 aisle, just opposite the food concessions. Tony DiTerlizzi will be signing his Dark Horse Art Book and his recent sketchbook in our booth on Friday, from 4-5, and offered to do a small drawing in each book!
