NICK CARDY WIT-LASH
Closeout Price! Highly Recommended. Renowned commercial artist, illustrator, designer from DC Comics' golden days -- all of these describe Nick Cardy. In fact, what has always made his work stand out in all of these venues and more, is his sense of design, storytelling ... and of course his sense of humor. In "Wit-Lash" (a take off on his run on "Bat-Lash," which was also full of humor), we take a look at Nick's sterling wit, while delving into the background of this amazing artist, and looking at some of his works that have not been explored in any other tome, along the way. FROM SHADOW TO LIGHT The Life And Art of Mort Meskin
Closeout Price! Our Highest Recommendation. By Steven Brower. Part coffee-table art book, part investigative biography, this studies Meskin's career from the Golden Age of Comics to his advertising and fine art done near the end of his life. Hugely influential but still obscure to most fans, Meskin profoundly influenced artists like Jim Steranko, Joe Kubert, Alex Toth, Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby. He shared a studio and some of his best strips with Batman artist Jerry Robinson. He was first to draw Sheena of the Jungle, he created The Vigilante and Johnny Quick, and did brilliant work on both of these DC heroes, as well illustrated here. New from Dean Yeagle & Mandy

I checked in with Dean regarding his sketchbook for this year, since it normally premieres at the now-cancelled San Diego Comic-Con. He's doing a new Scribblings, #8, and sent along this little teaser for your viewing pleasure.

Dean says "...I decided to do another SCRIBBLINGS, which I haven't done since #7 in 2014... And who knows, I may finally finish MANDY FURIOSA, the all color hardback that I've been working on for years! But first...I've got a short 'story' to finish up and put in it, about Mandy on a nude beach on the Riviera, and maybe a couple of 'one-pager' gags."

We'll let you know when it comes in, looks like mid to late August. A few of his books have gone out of print, but he plans to reprint them eventually. Now available are Scribblings #1,3 [SCR01S,SCR03S $15), #5, & 6 (SCR05S, etc $20 each), plus Mandy: Biographical Scrapbook ($20), Beautiful Birthday Suit ($20), Framed (HC, $25), Modeling Mandy ($20) and Mandy-Go-Round ($20). Every one is signed by Dean.

So far we have no more news on upcoming sketchbooks but I will keep you posted. We are upgrading our website at the end of July, so we are pretty busy right now between peak new catalog orders (thank you!), and training on the new program. We'll get some more sketchbook info for you soon. Meanwhile, here's some favorites, starting with the newest titles. We're closing out the older William Stout titles, so catch these now, they will be gone soon.

Diamond Comics Back on Track

Diamond Comic Distributors, from whom we buy a few of our products — Dynamite, Image, most Statues, comics (but not GNs) from Marvel and DC — is shipping new products again. They ended up skipping one issue of Previews. Delayed items are now coming in; I'm sure some will be re-announced and we will update our due dates.

Free Comic Book Day

Orders for these have declined, and we have a few titles with only a few copies available. All of the cards are gone except for David Mattingly and Don Maitz. We are going to offer these for another week, and then we are going to box them up to make room for other items. With any order, select any three of these. Over $25, select any 4, over $50, take 6. Also available are the Frazetta Icon Brochure (free with a Frazetta item), The Golden Age of Comic Fandom (free with a Bill Schelly item), and the Images #13 portfolio (free with any portfolio).

Shipping Delays

We're hearing of many shipments taking longer than normal right now. Instead of 7-10 days for U.S. delivery, we now are telling people 10-15 days. One order to Michigan took 30 days, and just sat for several days in a Post Office hub. You can call and we will track any order for you if you are concerned.

This also goes the other way also...getting orders of books to us, especially reorders. I apologize if you had to have items backordered more than usual lately. I count on a certain set time to get reorders, and that's how I know how many to restock. If they take longer due to delays in transit, we can run out. Or if demand outstrips my expectations the same thing happens...it has recently, with the bump in internet business that we are experiencing during the virus. Believe me, I do my best: I go through a sophisticated, custom report with sales figures by month and by week—and I do it every week and we place reorders every week with dozens and dozens of publishers.
