THE WORLD OF GUWEIZ The Art of Gu Zheng Wei Highly Recommended. 1 million followers on Instagram! Following on from his first book, Guweiz: The Art of Gu Zheng Wei (2020), the artist now takes us deeper into his world of beautifully painted artwork, which features beautiful girls, often warriors, in manga-inspired dark settings. Guweiz provided the cover artwork for the popular Asian Illustration also from 3dtotal. It contains a special feature on his work. We find him incredibly polished and imaginative, transcending far beyond the usual Manga motifs to bring his work a fine art style very much in the Realism genre of tradition-inspired work. 3dtotal Publishing, 2023....More. THE COMPLETE WORLD FAMOUS CREATURES Hardcover Collects #1-4, 1958-59. Oversized Hardcover. Coming at you from the earliest days of monster mania, World Famous Creatures magazine was put together quickly and cheaply to cash in on the popularity of Famous Monsters #1. The title lasted just four issues, which are much sought after by monster magazine collectors. This competitor came closest to FM in terms of content and visuals and even tongue-in-cheek attitude. The issues contain b&w stills from all the classic films (not terribly well reproduced), Forry Ackermann-like puns, and even cut-out monster masks. There is also early John Severin art and several comic book stories in the monster mix! Fantaco Enterprises, 2023. ...More. Item Code: COMWFCH Hard Cover, 9x11, 288pg, Partial Color $59.95 |

THE ART OF CLASSIC SCI-FI MOVIES An Illustrated History From the dawn of silent cinema to today, mad scientists, terrifying monsters (giant and otherwise), UFOs, and invading aliens all bursting out from some of the most brilliantly designed posters ever printed, featuring art that was sometimes lurid, always eye-catching, and often simply beautiful. With plenty of room for the rare and unfamiliar, this presents a stellar selection of imagery, charting the story of the genre. A Trip to the Moon and Metropolis, through Cold War classics like Invasion of the Body-Snatchers and Godzilla, and on to visionary films such as 2001 and Solaris — as well as less celebrated but nonetheless infamous cultural artifacts like Barbarella and Zardoz, and genuine oddities such as Murder by Television and Twonky. The most extensive book of its type ever published, it includes selections from American movies as well from Japan, Italy, Spain, France, Russia, and Eastern Europe. Applause, 2023. Created by Dick Ayers and Ray Krank, Rex Fury was originally known as the Calico Kid, who together with his white horse Spectre became the Ghost Rider! Wearing a white outfit covered with phosphorus, he could cover parts of his body to give the illusion that he was merely a floating head or pair of hands! To further the illusion, he wielded a black lariat and black bullwhip! A wildly popular title in the 1950s, which Marvel scooped up and turned into their own motorcyle-riding hero. PS Artbooks, 2023. Hall of Fame Choices: I (Bud) was nominated for induction into the Eisner Hall of Fame, in the Voter’s Choice category. So was Phil Seuling. Neither of us made the cut, but I’m deeply honored to be among those named. The four inductees this year were Brian Bolland, Ann Nocenti, Tim Sale, and editor Diana Schutz. Long-time Dark Horse editor Diana Shutz first got into comics working at Comics & Comix, in the 1980s — she edited our in-house publication, The Telegraph Wire and worked the counter. She had applied for a job with me and I recommended her for C&C. She moved to Berkeley from Canada and got her green card. She now teaches comics courses in Portland. Judge's Choices were Jerry Bails, Tony DeZuniga, Justin Green, Bill Griffith, Jay Jackson, Jeffrey Jones, Jack Katz, Aline Kominsky-Crumb, Win Mortimer, Diane Noomin et al. |
