STAR TREK The Art of Neville Page
Recommended. During a career spanning twenty years, visionary creature designer Neville Page has applied his considerable expertise to the creation and development of the aliens of the Star Trek Universe. From the movies Star Trek (2009) through to Star Trek Beyond (2016), as well as the shows Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, Page’s incredibly detailed and intricate concept art and detailed sketches have yielded some of the franchise’s most memorable characters. Here they are, both in art and in finished make-up and CG. Titan, 2023. ...More.

THREE ROCKS The Story of Ernie Bushmiller The Man Who Created Nancy
Highly Recommended. From Bill Griffith, creator of Zippy the Pinhead and Nobody’s Fool, comes Three Rocks, a graphic novel biography of cartoonist Ernie Bushmiller, creator of the iconic comic strip Nancy. But this graphic novel is about more than a single comic book artist. It is the story of this American art form, tracing its inception back to 1895 with the Yellow Kid, the creation of Nancy in 1933, and all the strips that followed, including Peanuts and The Far Side. When Bushmiller died in 1982, Nancy was running in almost 900 daily newspapers — a number few syndicated cartoonists ever achieve. Abrams ComicArts, 2023....More.

Item Code: THREH
Hard Cover, 7x10, 272pg, b&w
$24.99
Bushmiller's "short-lived attempt to produce a live action sitcom" of Nancy is chronicled in the latest Hogan’s Alley [HA23. $7.50]—which also features Frazetta’s Li’l Abner work.

A Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection and winner of the Japan Media Arts Award; nominated for Angouleme's Fauve d'Or. A peaceful, independent kingdom until its annexation by the Japanese Empire in the 19th century, Okinawa was the site of the most destructive land battle of the Pacific War. New Archives from PS Artbooks

PLASTIC MAN Volume 1
Collects #1-4, 1944-46. Our Highest Recommendation. Featuring art AND brilliant storytelling by the great Jack Cole. This was one of the most imaginative, innovative, and just plain fun strips of the 1940s. Cole was a genius, and right here is his finest work in comics. Four great 64-page issues. For good reason, Plas was one of the longest running of the Golden Age heroes...lasting until 1956! PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Item Code: PLAM01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 224pg, Full Color
$32.99

Volume 2 is also in stock. We currently have two sets of DC’s The Plastic Man Archives, Vols 1-5 and Vols 1-6. These collect his origin and first appearances from Police Comics, where he was the cover feature for 102 issues, as well as winning his own title in 1946. Those 1946-on issues are where the current PS Artbooks are coming from.

We also have books on Quality (The Quality Companion) and on Jack Cole and Quality’s horror title, Web of Evil.

MILITARY COMICS Volume 1
Collects #1-4, 1941, all 64-page issues. Highly Recommended. The origin and first four appearances of Blackhawk, with stories by Will Eisner, Chuck Cuidera, Bob Powell, Jack Cole, Tex Blaisdell, Al McWilliams and Dave Berg. This new title from Quality kicked off just after Pearl Harbor, and it was split between stories of the army and navy, well, fictional heroes of the same. And like its companion Police Comics, where Plastic Man got his start, the work here is first class, before many of the best artists left to fight the war. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Item Code: MILC01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 272pg, Full Color
$32.99
Volume 2 is available, same price. Blackhawk in his own title is available #2-6; we’re awaiting a restock of #1. These are not being done in hardcover.

ADVENTURES INTO THE UNKNOWN Volume 21
Collects #119-123, 1960-61. Recommended. With the artistic talents of legends such as Ogden Whitney, John Buscema, John Forte, here are fun stories of sci-fi, fantasy, humor and adventure. Most are written by the great Richard Hughes, the backbone writer AND editor of ACG. His stories still hold up quite well and I find these fun to read and reread. Includes letters pages with some surprise names showing up. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Item Code: ADU21
Soft Cover, 7x10, 186pg, Full Color
$29.99

KONGA Volume 1
Collects #1-5, 1961-62. Recommended. By Joe Gill. Professor Decker tests the formula he created on ordinary monkey Konga — with disastrous results. Konga first becomes a gorilla, then learns to read minds. And now the ape has now grown to gigantic size and goes on a rampage through London! This 23-issue series began based on the 1960 film, but carried on with fun new stories with artwork by Steve Ditko, Dick Giordano, Charles Nicholas and Bill Molno. Included is the movie adaptation, plus Konga's first four adventures past the film. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Item Code: KONG01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color
$32.99
In stock in hardcover [KONG01H. $52.99]. Volume 2 in hard and softcover is also in stock, same prices. And check out Fantastic Giants facsimile edition by Ditko, with Konga and Gorgo [FANTG. $12.95].

WEIRD MYSTERIES Volume 1
Collects #1-5, 1952-53. Recommended. This particular title is one of the toughest to find and most prized, with a cover and three stories by Basil Wolverton, including Robot Woman and Swamp Monster, plus an "exposed brain" story. Also here are Ross Andru, Mike Esposito, Hy Fleishman, Frank Frollo, and many still-unknown artists. But best of all, here are several of the very wildest covers ever by the amazing Bernard Baily. Decapitation, skulls, exposed brains — Baily offered them all. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Item Code: WM01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color
$32.99
The hardcover, released in 2013, collects #1-6. It’s available by special order.

WEIRD TERROR Volume 1
Collects #1-5, 1952-53, from Comic Media. Recommended. By Henry C. Kiefer et al. The longest running title Comic Media had was 20 issues, and this one ran 13 before it bit the dust during the comics code shake-up. Today these are scarce little puppies amongst the most desirable pre-code titles. Rudy Palais has some outstanding work here; Pete Morisi is here, best known for his later work at Charlton. Don Heck’s covers are simply classics and today are collected as an end in themselves. But he also drew some of the best work here, again, as a young artist who was having a devil of a time... PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Item Code: PCWT01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color
$32.99
Oddly enough, the hardcover of this collects seven issues instead of 5. You can special order it from us, it came out in 2016 and we no longer keep it in stock [PCWT01H. $59.99].

CLASSIC ADVENTURE COMICS Volume 6

Return to WWII with a series of remarkable accounts of some of the fiercest battles including, "Raid on Regensburg," "Action in the Sunda Strait" where as part of an incredible series of victories in 1941 and 1942, the Japanese smash a combined American-British-Dutch-Australian fleet at the Battle of the Java Sea. The only surviving Ally ships, the U.S.S. Houston and H.M.A.S. Perth, attempt to fight their way southward toward Australia. PS Artbooks, 2023. ...More.
