Artists & Illustration

Closeout Price!Edited by Jon Beinart. Introduction by Tony Thorne. Short essay by Mike McGee. Laurie Lipton's vast and eerily memorable drawings have been widely recognized for their sublime references to life's predicaments. Portrayed with a teeth-clenching humor and consummate skill, her work is rich in imagination, artistry and social awareness. Her technique is inspired by the 16th Century Flemish Masters: using thousands of tiny lines, like the brush strokes in an egg-tempera painting, to build-up tone and form. We love her skeletons and skulls. Last Gasp, 2013...More

Closeout Price! Recommended. Charles Schulz's Peanuts debuted in 1950 and would become what is arguably the most important comic strip of all time. Peanuts transcended the medium, presenting complex issues and moral dilemmas in the space of four panels, while maintaining a bitingly funny sense of humor. For the first time, you can see the original art created by the artist himself--in IDW's multi-award-winning Artist's Edition format, with each strip being carefully scanned and reproduced (in an unusual oblong format), two strips to a page. Closeout Price! Recommended. By William S. Peterson. One of the most elusive figures in the history of Ameican graphic design. Her career began in the 1890s in Boston, where she achieved international recognition for her posters--and for her personal glamour. Newspapers called her the most famous woman artist in America. Then in 1896, following a broken engagement, she sailed to Europe, contributed to two final numbers of the Yellow Book in London, and vanished. Oak Knoll, 2013....More
