THE FANTASTIC WORLDS OF FRANK FRAZETTA
Limited First Edition, 6000 individually numbered copies. Available from us but now out of print. Our Highest Recommendation. Introduction by Dan Nadel. This monograph is the biggest and most complete ever produced on the artist, done in collaboration with the Frazetta family and with top collectors. Frank Frazetta has reigned as the undisputed lord of fantasy art for 50 years, his fame only growing in the 10 years since his death. With his paintings now breaking auction records, he's long overdue for this ultimate monograph. This has a LOT of material never before seen or rarely seen. Many nudes that Frank just did for himself are here; early work from his youth and early days in comics, Li'l Abner and Thunda pages, early comic book covers — all from his original art. There are also later advertising works never before collected, early paperback covers now show from the paintings. There's also a good bibliography of many of the works originally published as paperback, magazine and book covers. Taschen, 2023. Out of Print. THIMBLE THEATRE The Pre-Popeye Comics of EC Segar Revised Edition
Newly revised and expanded. Recommended. E.C. Segar began his comics career in the movies. He drew cartoons for silent movie theater slides, the Charlie Chaplin comic strip, and a daily strip about Chicago’s movies and entertainment. Then, in 1919, he penned his own “small screen” creation for the newspapers, Thimble Theatre, where Popeye was to be born a decade later. Here are examples of all of Segar’s early comics and illustrations, with 100 pre-Popeye Thimble Theatre Sunday pages including the complete run of the famed Western desert saga, a series that rivals his later work in superb art, storytelling, and humor. Fantagraphics, 2024. Rush Service and International shipping would require an additional charge. ...More.

Highly Recommended. Title page in silver ink and 12 pages in full color! A lengthy new adaptation of the only H.P. Lovecraft story published as a book during his lifetime, by modern horror master Gou Tanabe. We're very impressed with the dark tonal art (this is not typical manga pen and ink)...it's wonderfully moody and rich and creepy. In the winter of 1927-28, the isolated coastal settlement of Innsmouth, Massachusetts was assaulted by U.S. government agents “ its waterfront burned and dynamited, its people taken away to internment camps.Yet that was neither the beginning nor the end of the horror uncovered by a young antiquarian who traveled to Innsmouth in search of rumors from the town's dead past, only to find them still very much alive...and find truths lying under water deeper and colder than any earthly grave! Dark Horse, 2023....More.

TELL ME A STORY WHERE THE BAD GIRL WINS The Life And Art of Barbara Shermund
By Caitlin McGurk. An official biography and coffee table art collection honoring the life and art of pioneering cartoonist Barbara Shermund, an unheralded early master of magazine cartooning whose career spanned its heyday from the 1920s-1960s. Her sharp wit and loose style boldly tapped the zeitgeist of first-wave feminism with vivid characters that were alive and astute. Shermund’s women spoke their minds about sex, marriage, and society; smoked cigarettes and drank; and poked fun at everything in an era when it was not common to see young women doing so. Shermund left behind a body of work that was ahead of its time and remains insightful, witty, relevant, and contemporary. Fantagraphics, 2024. Due: Nov....More.

THE REALLY COMPLETE PARADISE TOO By Terry Moore Special Hardcover Signed
Signed! Recommended. Before Terry Moore launched his comic book career with Strangers In Paradise, he spent years honing his ideas and artistic chops drawing comic strips. Katchoo, Francine, David and more were all developed in comic strip formats that never saw the light of day until they were finally published in a limited comic book series titled Paradise TOO in 2010 with a tiny print run. There is more, way more than would fit into the original book. Terry continues to draw, draw, draw and the cartoons keep coming! It was decided that it’s time for a new book collecting the best of the original and new work! Abstract Studio, 2024....More.

Johnny Blaze’s ability to control the unrelenting demonic power of the Ghost Rider is starting to fail — and when the Spirit of Vengeance can range free, his wrath will know no limits! Villains from the overly ocular Orb to Azmodeus don’t know what’s coming for them. Here's the beginning of the creative runs of fan-favorite writers Roger Stern and J.M. DeMatteis and high-octane artist Bob Budiansky! They rejuvenated the series, bringing higher stakes, even more suspenseful storytelling and classic moments for every horror-hero fan to love: Ghost Rider goes to confession! The Freakmaster! Killer clowns! And a demon-biker ready to burn rubber and mete out the vengeance of hell! Marvel, 2024....More.

OAF-Con

OAF-Con folks, L to R: Rick Payne, Bud, Steve Fears, Paul McSpadden, John Wooley, Buddy Saunders, Larry Bigman. Sitting is Robert Brown. Most of us here first met in 1969 at the first Houston Con. My buddies and I drove there from San Jose when I was 17, our very first comic book convention.

We just attended the OAF-Con, in Norman Oklahoma (OAF is the Oklahoma Alliance of Fans). The show went just fine. We saw many friends, sold old and new books, and then our friend Buddy Saunders aka Mycomicshop bought all the rest of of my old comics.

Roger Hill was a beloved member of the OAF gang, so we had a very nice memorial for him. I spoke briefly about the huge contribution Roger made to all of us with his superb books on Reed Crandall, John Severin, Matt Fox and coming up, we think he finished ones on Johnny Craig and perhaps something on Jack Davis! Stay tuned!

I found lots of fun things to bring home; and on the drive down to Texas, we hit an old style bookstore and found a wonderful batch of nice condition pulps. Just like we used to in the old days! We drove to Arlington, Texas to visit Buddy and Judy Saunders who, with their son Conan and 140 employees!!! …run Mycomicshop.com — details and pictures next week!
