New From Flesk

GILT By J.A.W. Cooper Signed
Signed! Highly Recommended. This fifth collection of drawings and paintings by the illustrator and fine artist J.A.W. Cooper. It documents Cooper’s personal struggle through guilt, mourning and, finally, acceptance as the artist lost and then refound a love for their craft after taking a two-year hiatus. Through imagery revolving around the cycles of life and death, seasons, joy and pain, Cooper explores the relationship between making art and an unhealthy reliance on it for self-worth and identity. Flesk, 2023....More.

Item Code: GILTD
Hard Cover, 9x12, 176pg, Partial Color

Also available in a regular unsigned edition without the jacket and special binding [GILTH. $49.95].

Cooper also appears in Spectrum 25 HC [SPE25HR $45, $19.95] and SC [SPE25HR. $35, $14.95]. Here are more Spectrum annuals and Quarterlies.

Signed! Barren Lands is a humble love letter to the desert, where the author and artist Brynn Metheney was born and raised. She shines light — and wonder — on those deserts, which continue to inspire and surprise her. They include encounters that hinge on disbelief, passed down to her by family members and reclusive locals, about creatures unknown to the public. This is a marvelous look at hidden wonders that only a desert rat with a long history in the region could share. Her words and pictures are secret revelations that blur the lines between fantasy and reality and are sure to entertain anyone with a curious mind. Flesk, 2023....More.

By Fred Kida, Tony DiPreta, Maurice Whitman, et al.Airboy began in Air Fighters Comics but took over the title as publisher Hillman saw how popular he was. Back-up strips include Sky Wolf and The Flying Dutchman, who also started out in Airfighters. And here is the very first appearance of The Heap! Fun stories with his plane that flaps its wings, and an assortment of monsters and dictators, even sci-fi stories. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

THE HAWK Volume 1 Hardcover
Collects #1-5, 1951-54. Superb painted covers. Highly Recommended. Art by Murphy Anderson, Joe Kubert, Dan Barry et al. This could be the best drawn of all the early 1950s westerns. Cowboys were exploding across television, Saturday morning serials, and movies. A trend was seized upon by top-tier publisher Ziff-Davis who introduced The Hawk, "Fighting Marshall of the American West." With skill, courage, an honorable attitude, and nearly superhuman speed and ability with his six-shooter. PS artbooks, 2024. ...More.

Item Code: THAWK01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color

Collects #17-21, 1949-50. Highly Recommended. Featuring art by the great Jack Cole. Another five thick issues with wild stories: the first Killer Shark story, invasions, a 12-foot-tall mummy, killers of the Amazon, Hell-diver rockets and much more. Primo cold war and horror and adventure stories from one of the most popular and long-running titles of the Golden Age, which carried right into the Silver Age with many revivals into modern times. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Collects #8-12 (actually #1-5),1951-52. Recommended. By Lou Cameron, Mike Sekowsky, Ken Rice et al. I consider Ace a good step above most of the EC competitors. They offered offbeat stories tied together by the character "Fate," who provided narration. It's all about the living and the dead (and the undead), as well as getting what you shouldn't wish for, and the inevitable figure of death himself. This veritable sleeper from the Ace stable also includes work by Jim McLaughlin, Maurice Gutwirth, George Appel, Louis Zansky, Bill Molno, and Marvel's own Chic Stone. Cameron and McLaughlin were doing work worthy of EC in quality, especially in the later issues. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

GORGO Volume 4 Hardcover
Collects #16-20, 1963-64. Recommended. Art by Dick Giordano, Steve Ditko et al.After a seaquake, a huge lizard-like creature from prehistoric times walked into the comics world and was an immediate hit. This Godzilla wanna-be was just a kid though, and usually seems to just go after the bad guys and the bad monsters, protecting the weak and the good folks in his life. Wonderful Silver Age classics. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Item Code: SAG04

Item Code: SPIR01
Soft Cover, 7x10, 208pg, Full Color

Collects #1-4, 1944-46. Highly Recommended. Will Eisner helped to created many of the seminal heroes for Quality Comics, then left to create The Spirit for the newspapers — his masterpiece of story and art. So of course Quality began collecting the 8-page stories. Here they are as they first appeared in issues #1-4 of the very first Spirit comic books. The stories are presented in a wide variety of styles, from straight forward crime drama and noir to lighthearted adventure, from mystery and horror to comedy and love stories, often with hybrid elements that twisted genre and reader expectations. PS Artbooks, 2023....More.

Item Code: SPIR01H
Hard Cover, 7x10, 208pg, Full Color

The hardcover of this arrived a few weeks ago [SPIR01H. $52.99], kicking off this new series that is reprinting the Quality Group comic books, which in turn were collecting the Sunday sections (but not in any particular order).

The DC series below collects, for the first and so far only time, the Sunday sections in order, beginning with the very first in June. 1940. I’ve just reduced the price on this set of the first 16 volumes, 1940-48:

By Will Eisner. The first 16 volumes set. These are priced all over the map on the internet, depending on how scarce they are, from a low of $25 to a high of, get this, $1500 for one volume. There are a few out there in the $60, 75 to $150 range due to scarcity. This set collects Eisner's fabled Spirit stories, from 1940 to 1948. Collecting all of these in the originals is still next to impossible...I've been after them myself for 50 years now, and still don't have them all. DC Comics, 2000-2005. Out of Print.
