FRACTAL COSMOS The Mathematical Art of Alice Kelley 2019 Calendar
Highly Recommended. By Alice Kelley. Fractals, visual depictions of mathematical equations — the ones behind natural phenomena such as crystal growth, galaxy formation, plant shapes, and weather patterns — prove that math is indeed beautiful, especially when you use it to create art. More than one Fractals calendar has been done, but this one by Alice Kelley remains the first and the best, each year featuring innovative, sometimes psychedelic computer-generated abstract designs, paired with quotes from luminaries in the fields of mathematics and science. NUKE 'EM! Classic Cold War Comics Celebrating The End of The World
Collects Atomic War! #1-4,1952-53 and World War III #1-2,1952-53. Recommended. Art by Ken Rice, Lou Cameron et al. Back in the 1950s during the “Cold War” every new day hinted at the possibility of the end of the world. Kids grew up in the shadow of bomb shelters and were treated to daily lessons at school on what to do in the event of a nuclear attack.  Americans were besieged by constant reminders to police our borders, to carefully watch out for “foreigners” who might be spies, and to be ever vigilant in preparing to combat the “red” menace of communism. Lou Cameron's fine artwork is featured in almost every issue. J.W. GODWARD 1861-1922 The Eclipse of Classicism
New Revised Edition. Highly Recommended. By Vern G. Swanson. Art by J.W. Godward. John William Godward (1861-1922) was among the brightest stars of the late Graeco-Roman painters during classicism's twilight years. Some believe he equalled Alma-Tadema in his depiction of marble and flowers and Frederic Leighton in his depiction of drapery. I like to compare him to Maxfield Parrish, since he also discovered the appeal of nude or appealing young women, and that became a favorite subject, just as Parrish did the same a generation later. News and Notes

Edgar Rice Burroughs 100-Year Chronology

The good news is our reorder came in for the trade edition, so we have these in stock now —we’d run through all of our initial copies. On the other hand, we are still waiting for the leatherbound edition to get here. And we don’t know how many we will be getting quite yet, so don’t know if we’ll have extras to sell. We honored the pre-pub price until July 1, but now, if we end up with any beyond copies already reserved, they will be $400. The publisher says he’s out of copies.

Independence Day Sale

In case you missed it, we sent out a special email on Tuesday with new sale items, hurt copies, and warehouse finds. See it on our blog, or shop the items here. Also, too late to add to it, we have just one copy each of three Artist’s Editions and a Chris Ware Monograph, all hurts that we just put online.
