MARBLED PAPER Its History, Techniques, and Patterns
Recommended. By Richard J. Wolfe. Richard J. Wolfe (1928-2017) was a rare book librarian, practicing marbler, and collector of marbled papers and books about marbling. This book is the result of more than twenty-five years of research and practical experience. Wolfe tracked down and sorted out historical records of marbling from their original sources, to write eloquently on technical and stylistic questions. This meticulously examines the rise and fall of the craft, its history, techniques, and patterns in such a way as to put all aspects of this fascinating craft in proper perspective. Profusely illustrated, oversized. Oak Knoll Press, 2018...More.

JOSEF HALFER AND THE REVIVAL OF THE ART OF MARBLING PAPER
Limited, 250. 17 tipped-in samples. Recommended. By Richard J. Wolfe. Josef Halfer practiced and taught marbling at a time when paper marbling was in decline and being replaced by mechanically-produced substitutes. The techniques that Halfer pioneered enabled marblers to take the craft to new artistic levels, allowing more detailed patterns to be achieved than ever before, and resulting in the most delicate, intricate and beautiful forms that the medium is capable of producing. Wolfe hand-printed 17 fine works based on Halfer designs, each one hand-tipped-in here. Plus Halfer's own essays, newly translated. A small but very fine little book. Oak Knoll Press, 2018...More.

THE BRITISH COMIC BOOK INVASION
By Jochen Ecke. As comics readers grew older during the 1970s amd 1980s, they started calling for more sophisticated stories. Writers and artists with distinctive styles were in demand. DC Comics and Marvel went looking for such mavericks and found them in the United Kingdom. Creators like Alan Moore (Watchmen, Saga of the Swamp Thing), Grant Morrison (The Invisibles, Flex Mentallo) and Garth Ennis (Preacher) migrated from the anarchical British comics industry to the U.S. mainstream and shook up the status quo... THE HORROR COMIC NEVER DIES
By Michael Walton. Horror comics were among the first comic books published—ghastly tales that soon developed an avid young readership, along with a bad reputation. Parent groups, psychologists, even the United States government joined in a crusade to wipe out the horror comics industry—and they almost succeeded. Yet the genre survived and flourished, from the 1950s to today. This history covers the tribulations endured by horror comics creators and the genre's ultimate success which helped launch the careers of many of the biggest names in comics. McFarland, 2019...More.
