SHAZAM! THE WORLD'S MIGHTIEST MORTAL Volume 1
Collects #1-18, 1973-74. By Dennis O'Neil, C.C. Beck and Kurt Schaffenberger. In 1973, twenty years after the last Fawcett issue, DC brought back one of comics' most popular heroes: Captain Marvel, also known as Shazam!, whose Golden Age adventures sold in the millions of copies. These new adventures combined the light-hearted art of C.C. Beck, for #1-10, the original artist from the 1940s, with the modern, tongue-in-cheek sensibility of writers including Dennis O'Neil. With #11, the superlative Kurt Schaffenberger (Superman, Lois Lane) took over. The Golden Age origin is retold, Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr. both appear; Mr. Mind and Tawny are reintroduced; Captain Marvel Jr.'s origin is retold. Lex Luthor appears in #15. BRAVO FOR ADVENTURE
Highly Recommended. By Alex Toth. Alex Toth's magnum opus contains all three of The Genius's stories starring Jesse Bravo, knock-about pilot and reluctant swashbuckler, including the original graphic novel. More than forty years after its creation, Bravo remains a rollicking pastiche of 1930s high-adventure, replete in the visual trappings of film noir. By this point in his career Toth had stripped out all extraneous lines and detail, demonstrating complete command of his staging and chiaraoscruo technique, and cementing his reputation as the medium's most sophisticated storyteller. Szukalski

[Pronounced Su-kal-ski]
STRUGGLE The Art of Szukalski
Highly Recommended. Art by Szukalski. Foreword by Leonardo and George DiCaprio. Stanislav Szukalski (1893-1987) was one of the great sculptors of the 20th Century. Thanks to his move to the U.S., and the the efforts of dedicated personal acquaintances, his work has been re-evaluated and shown to the public. This is the first critical view of his work published since 1923. Szukalski “...was like a caryatid struggling to keep his ideas above the surface of the rising deluge." Last Gasp, 2019...More.

If you are a regular customer, you'll see your printed copy any day now in the mail. Or you can download it right now, right here. The cover is shown below.

Carl Barks Ducks

I have to let some of the older collections go to make room for new books. We're dropping the Fantagraphics Walt Disney's Donald Duck Volumes 10-15 once we sell out, but we'll still keep Volumes 16 and up in stock. We also have some Vol 9/10 slipcased sets left. We previously dropped volumes 1-9.

I just bought a near complete collection of the Complete Carl Barks Library (the three volume, slipcased sets from Another Rainbow)—Volumes 1-5 and 7-9. Inquire if interested. We also got virtually complete sets of the color Another Rainbow Albums: Donald Duck Adventures, Uncle Scrooge Adventures, US one-shots, Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, Walt Disney in Color, etc, many complete with bonus cards in shrinkwrap. Again, inquire. We will list these eventually but you can get a jump on them now.

Everett Raymond Kinstler

His signed limited collection has always done well for us, since it's essentially an exclusive, and it's 1/3 of cover price. But after Ray passed away May 26, we did see quite an uptick in interest. The Deluxe Signed Limited remains available at $95.00, $30.00, and the hardcover at $44.95, $15.00.

Review: Life on the Moon by Robert Grossman

I just finished reading this—it took me two days, it's a dense and massive graphic novel. And I loved it. I rewrote my description of it, offering more about the artist—whose name you may not know, but you've seen his work on magazine covers dating back to the seventies. It's a delightful tale, part history, part slapstick, part adventure, part romance, part sci-fi. You'll meet Edgar Allan Poe, John James Audubon, Charles Goodyear (yes, the tire guy, when he first “invented” rubber), even a Civil War hero, and the greatest real-life hoax since Orson Well's War of the Worlds broadcast. Except this hoax was created by the New York Sun, a leading newspaper of...1835. And everyone bought into it!

Publisher Craig Yoe (and IDW) are suitably proud of this little masterpiece. Grossman passed away before this went to print, but it was a crowning achievement of a long and very, very successful career (his work influenced Monty Python, for just one example). Please check it out.
