AMERICAN VENUS The Extraordinary Life of Audrey Munson, Model and Muse
Warehouse find, 1999. Recommended. By Diane Rosas and Anita Bourne. Audrey Munson was once called the "The most perfect, most versatile, most famous of American models, whose face and figure have inspired thousands of modern masterpieces of sculpture and painting." It was not an exaggeration. Audrey's career is the classic tale of meteoric rise and tragic downfall — she was "Queen of the Artists' Studios". The consummate professional, she modeled for dozens of civic monuments and was called "America's Venus." At one time, thirty pieces of art based on her poses were housed at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her life as a fine art model was the subject of four controversial silent films in which she starred — mostly nude. Mature Readers. Balcony Press, 1999. Note: slight wear to cover edges....More.

See Supersonic Sammy save Stalin. Wonder at Wolverton's wanton winds of wisdom, alliteration antics and able artistry. Peer piously as polite Powerhouse Pepper pounces into peril, pounding his piston-packing punches passionately 'pon noses, necks, napes, nostrils, navels, noggins and knees, all with a chuckle, a wink, and a grin. News & Notes

Revised and Recommended!

I just caught up with several items that came in while I was off on vacation. And I found the descriptions we imported were sadly lacking, if not downright incorrect (as in the case of Heavy Metal). I also added my personal recommendations to several of these.

I just hugely revised our description for Famous American Illustrators [FAMAMH. $40, $29.95]. I've also given it My Highest Recommendation. Published in 1997, this is a stunning, beautiful production packed with the best artists from the last 130 years. And now bargain-priced.

Also check out these, which I also rewrote:
