Jose Salinas’ Cisco Kid. Sergio Toppi, Alley Oop, Jack Davis’ monster sketches, Mike Mignola, Miracleman and Tarzan!

Another week of quite the variety. The new Jose Salinas Cisco Kid is here, and more Toppi and more Alley Oop. We also have Jack Davis monster sketches, the latest Character Design Quarterly, Mignola stories, Miracleman and several more Omnibus volumes. And four new uniform Tarzan editions with those lovely Joe Jusko covers have been announced. Plus 2023 Calendars on sale!

We’ve had several inquiries from friends concerned about the storm situation here in California. We are absolutely fine, not even a power outage to report. I had a tiny leak in my office and lost my Mr. Fantastic statue when a roof panel got saturated and fell in, but otherwise we’re just wet…and happy to get the much needed precipitation. Some friends haven’t fared quite so well, one had a tree drop like a spear through his roof. But in general, we’ve been just fine up here in the mountains.

But in 1982 when the first issue of Love and Rockets came out, they (occasionally working with their brother, Mario) were two young, struggling, unknown cartoonists who were bucking the dominant comic book trend of costumed characters and adolescent content with intimate, complex, humane, novelistic stories told in comics form. THE COMPLETE WORLD FAMOUS CREATURES Hardcover
Collects #1-4. Coming at you from the earliest days of monster mania, World Famous Creatures magazine was put together quickly and cheaply to cash in on the popularity of Famous Monsters #1. The title lasted just four issues - two in 1958 and two in 1959 - and are much sought after by monster magazine collectors. This competitor came closest to FM in terms of content and visuals. The issues contain tons of large monster stills, Forry-like puns, and cut-out monster masks. The publisher even tried to copy Warren's Captain Company by offering many mail-order monster items. There is also early John Severin art in the monster mix! Due to all the coupons and mask cutouts, most original copies are incomplete. Here is your opportunity to have the entire, complete, run of World Famous Creatures. Fantaco Enterprises, 2023. Due: Mar....More.

KRAZY & IGNATZ Volume 4: 1925-1927
This Eisner Award-nominated series showcases one of the most renowned and celebrated comic strips in the art form's history as it strides boldly through the mid-1920s, its quirky characters in full flower in this gorgeous, archival hardcover collection. In this volume: Ignatz repeatedly sets elaborate traps for Krazy (long before the Road Runner), adventures on the "enchanted mesa," wacky weather, literal cliffhangers — and what happens when Santa and the stork arrive at the same chimney at the same moment? BONUS: The most complete collection of Herriman's long-lost Book of Magic pages ever assembled. With incisive essays by Herriman scholars, this entry in this ongoing series makes it plain to Herriman fans and newcomers alike why historians, scholars, and cartoonists consider this to be the best comic strip ever created and why The Comics Journal proclaimed it to be "the greatest comic strip of the 20th Century." SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE Compendium One
By Matt Wagner and Steven T. Seagle. Art by Guy Davis. The year is 1938, and the world is holding its breath—mesmerized by the onrushing storm that will soon engulf it in fire and steel. In New York City, one man’s sleep is filled with tormenting visions of the evils that mankind visits upon itself, compelling him to act. And so, by night, Wesley Dodds lays aside the trappings of his inherited wealth to roam the shadows as the Sandman, armed with a tranquilizing gas gun and driven by an unrelenting sense of justice. Haunted and obsessed, the Sandman moves through a decadent, post-Depression landscape, stalking the predators who hide themselves beneath society’s callous indifference to the weak and vulnerable. No one sees him at his work until he chooses to reveal himself—no one, that is, except the woman who is destined to be the light to his darkness. DC Comics, 2023. Due: Mar....More.
