DC FINEST PLASTIC MAN The Origin of Plastic Man
Collects Police Comics #1-36 and Plastic Man #1-2, 1941-44. Our Highest Recommendation. By Jack Cole. This, in my eyes, is the very best DC Finest collection yet! At long last, here are the first THIRTY SIX Plastic Man stories from Police Comics #1-36 — including his origin and all the wild first stories, entirely written and drawn by the acknowledged genius, Jack Cole. Plus his first two individual comics, Plastic Man #1 and 2. He can bounce, stretch, and crack wise, but can he save the day? And, more importantly, does he even want to? Jack Cole took the superhero business and turned it all around on its head, with wildly creative stories, beautiful gal villains, goofy bad guys, and flat non-stop action in every panel. - Bud DC Comics, 2025....More.

THE ARTIST'S GUIDE TO SKETCHING The Classic Book About Making Art on Location
Highly Recommended. Since its release in 1982, The Artist’s Guide to Sketching has become a classic art guide for students and laypeople around the world. For decades the first edition was impossible to find but sought out by in-the-know artists. The book includes instruction and artwork by James Gurney and Thomas Kinkade — two students, then traveling by car and sketching their way across the U.S. Both would go on to fame with Dinotopia (Gurney) and as the “Painter of Light” (Kinkade). This freshly updated edition restores the classic text with updated full-color visuals and a special section chronicling the book’s origins and the friendship, drawing on archives from Gurney and the Kinkade family estate. THE COLLECTED WILL EISNER'S JOHN LAW
Highly Recommended. By Will Eisner. Art by Will Eisner & his studio, and Gary Chaloner. In 1948, Will Eisner produced the first issue of John Law Detective, which he intended to add to a line of self-published comics. However, after Eisner's “Baseball Comics”, “Kewpies”, and “Pirate Comics” failed to find an audience, John Law never made it to the newsstand. Featuring original stories by Will Eisner, Gary Chaloner’s award-winning reboot from 2004, including a previously unpublished story, and a foreword by long-time Eisner publisher Denis Kitchen, this is a must-have not just for Eisner fans but comic collectors of all ages. Supporting characters include Lady Luck and Mr. Mystic (!), who both had their own long runs as backup features in The Spirit Weekly. Titan, 2025....More.

BARNABY Volume 5
Highly Recommended. Introduction by Ron Howard. Cover by Daniel Clowes. The final two-plus years of the strip, including the rarely-if-ever-seen conclusion. Five-year-old Barnaby Baxter says goodbye to his Fairy Godfather, Mr. O’Malley. Unlike most comic strips, Barnaby ended its ten-year run with an emotionally satisfying ending that broke the hearts of fans when first published in newspapers. The magic of Barnaby resides in its canny mix of fantasy and satire, amplified by the understated elegance of Crockett Johnson’s clean, spare art. Barnaby expanded our sense of what comics can do through its combination of Johnson’s sly wit and O’Malley’s amiable windbaggery, illustrating a child’s feeling of wonder and an adult’s wariness, highly literate jokes and a keen eye for the ridiculous. Fantagraphics, 2025....More.

FIGHT GIRLS Director's Cut
Highly Recommended. By Frank Cho, Sabine Rich, et al. This edition features new original art and an extended final chapter — how Frank originally intended the series to end. When the Queen of the Galaxy suddenly disappears, ten hard-as-nails women face off in an ancient contest to claim her throne. To win the challenge each contestant must survive the hazards of the planet’s harsh landscape, the ferocious predators on and below its surface, and their fellow contestants. There are no limits in this high-stakes contest, especially when we learn one of the competitors is an infiltrator who has her eye on a bigger prize. AWA, 2025....More.

SANTOS SISTERS Volume 1
Recommended. FollowOne day while combing the beach in their hometown of Las Brisas, the Santos Sisters discover a pair of beautiful medallions. What happens next changes their lives, forever. The medallions are imbued with the powers of a goddess, "Madame Sosostris," and can transform them at will into flying, gun-wielding, mask-wearing murder-heroes. Follow Ambar and Alana, as they balance spicy superheroics with the drama of their everyday lives in a playful mix of Archie Comics and Love and Rockets. They fight crime, date guys, and try to just deal with day-to-day life as young women in a world of deadly assassins, roided-up footballers, zombie attacks, organized crime, and more. WALT DISNEY'S DONALD DUCK Magic and Mayhem
An all-new graphic novel. Recommended. By Alberto Savini. Art by Vitale Mangiatordi, Mattia Surroz, Emilio Urbano, et al. Foreword by David Gerstein. Donald Duck doesn’t want much in life. Just a great plate of pancakes. And to be a better treasure hunter than Uncle Scrooge. And for everyone in town to follow his perfect example. And for his whole family to be superheroes! Wait a minute, this is getting wacky... but the mystical E-Genie, an all-powerful being housed in a smartphone, is here to grant Donald’s wackiest wishes before you can say “App-acadabra”! It’s Donald Duck’s 90th anniversary, and a platoon of European Disney comics masters is bringing his magic makeover to life in an all-new feature-length graphic novel! Can Scrooge McDuck, Daisy, Huey, Dewey and Louie, and Cousin Fethry save Duckburg from Donald... and our birthday boy from himself? Fantagraphics, 2025....More.

REDEMPTION Volume 1
Highly Recommended. By Christa Faust. Art by Mike Deodato. The dusty town of Redemption survived the apocalypse, but is hanging on by a thread. Young Rose Obregon ventures into the wastelands to seek the help of the legendary gunslinger Cat Tanner — but the so-called "Butcher" is long retired. However, when Rose arrives on Tanner's doorstep, with gunmen hot on her trail, the Butcher has a choice to make: sit on the sidelines or pick up her guns and do what she does best? Excellent art! In the twentieth century, Oop fights a trio of crooked carnival con-men. Then it's back to Moo to find the population ravaged by the Cro-Mags and Oola kidnapped — and fighting mad! Finally, he time travels with "Pop Fish" to the old west to find a gold mine and get thrown in jail. They escape but are now wanted outlaws. Just wonderful adventures across time with our hero and heroine! Reprinting all daily strips from 1946, plus ten Sundays in full color! ALLEY OOP AND JULIUS CAESAR 1949-1950
Highly Recommended. By V.T. Hamlin. First Alley and crew have a new adventure in Moo, then they're back in the present and off on a trip to the moon! Next up, Julius Caesar has been beaten by the Britons and only Alley can come to the rescue, as he dons armor and becomes a warrior! Back in the modern day, Doc Wonmug is targeted by international gangsters! These stories and more are in this big oversized book, presenting two full years of daily strips and 78 color Sundays. As to why these two oversize books are different — ordinarily, Alley Oop daily and Sunday strips were completely separate and unrelated adventures. But, for reasons we'll never know, for three years (1946, '49, '50) , Sunday strips were integrated directly with the daily story lines, so that they were meant to be read continuously. HELMUT NEWTON BERLIN, BERLIN
By Matthias Harder.Berlin had an indelible influence on Helmut Newton and his photographic work. Many of his iconic images show the fascination he had for the city throughout his remarkable career, from the 1930s to the 21st century: nightcrawlers in uber-cool clubs, nude portraits in the old Berlin guesthouses of his youth, and the Berlin film scene. Featuring Hanna Schygulla and Wim Wenders at the Berlin Wall, John Malkovich and David Bowie. In 1979, the newly relaunched German Vogue commissioned him to retrace the footsteps of his youth to capture the fashion moment. The resulting portfolio, Berlin, Berlin!, inspired the title of the exhibition which celebrates 20 years of the Helmut Newton Foundation. Taschen, 2024. Mature Readers. ...More.

DIAN HANSON'S THE HISTORY OF MEN'S MAGAZINES Volume 2 From Post War to 1959
New Printing. Recommended. By Dian Hanson. 650 magazine covers and photos from the U.S., Mexico, Argentina and England, plus informative essays. After WWII, the U.S. quickly came to dominate the men’s magazine market. Playboy, launched in December 1953, made a huge impact on publishing, but already on the stands were quirky burlesque titles Beauty Parade, Wink, Titter and Eyeful, featuring Bettie Page and covers by artist Peter Driben. Much loved WWII pin-ups, often of aspiring starlets, led to “news and nudes” titles with cover girls Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, and to more lurid titles like Shock, blending burlesque and celebrity scandal. In New York City a clandestine fetishist magazine industry, bankrolled by the mob, emerged, first with John Willie’s Bizarre, then female dominant Exotique. Taschen, 2023. Adult Material....More.

ELMER BATTERS 1
This fun little pocket-sized book is filled with dozens of Elmer Batters' photos. The artist's love of the nude female form is in every image. By Elmer Batters. Like a Zen artist, Elmer Batters has spent over 35 years photographing the same thing. He is the master of "leg art," and this book is a collection of his obsession. Wide variety of women, and usually clearly enjoying what they are doing. There are several photographs of the same ladies, such as a voluptuous brunette who is smiling and clearly having fun teasing the reader with her exposed breasts, nylons, high heels and undies. The artist's love of the nude female form is in every image. But his special interest is legs, feet, nylons and sexy under things. So there is lots to look at in those areas in this mini-book. GREEN LANTERN The Silver Age Omnibus Volume 2
New printing. Collects #36-75, 1965-70. Our Highest Recommendation. By John Broome. Art by Gil Kane, with Sid Greene and Murphy Anderson. An amazing five more years of the original Green Lantern/Hal Jordan stories. The three big DC Silver Age hits and fan favorite series in the early sixties were The Flash, Adam Strange in Mystery in Space...and GL. These are the tales that established Hal Jordan as the greatest member of the Green Lantern Corps and offered fans brilliant storytelling. This was the thinking fan's series. Since GL's ring could create just about anything, instead of having punch-outs with the bad guys, he simply out-thought them, using his ring to create defensive and offensive stuff of all sorts. The ring could create dams to stop runaway rivers, giant hammers to swat threats out of the sky, an invulnerable shield, blinding light, a giant bow-and-arrow...anything except mechanized equipment. We will also include it with the deluxe edition and numbers will be allocated in the order we take customer reservations. It features an Al Feldstein recreation from 2001 in full color.

Signed Carl Barks Mini-Prints

We have been offering these individually but our supplier does not want to break up his sets with four matching numbers. We still have just a couple copies each of A Hot Defense, Visitor from Underground, and Gifts for Shacktown at $200 each (they were $300 each). Sold out is Always Another Rainbow. We still have the 4-print sets at the new discounted price of $600 [CBLITP].

ARKADI AND THE LOST TITAN
Massive 528-page hardcover. Highly Recommended. By Caza. A masterwork collecting nine individual books and a prequel created over 20 years. Le monde d'Arkadi was first published as 7 albums, 1989-2004, by Les Humanoïdes in France. The story blends imaginative landscapes with intricate detail, and classic sci-fi adventure with spiritual and metaphysical exploration. Think Moebius, Druillet and Juan Gimenez all rolled into one brilliant artist! It's Year 10,000 of the Still era, and Earth has stopped moving. Half of the world is plunged into frigid Night, the other is scorched in Day. Here is Dis, the last fabled domed-city, ruled by artificial intelligence. There live the Chosen, the last biologically pure humans, who are completely reliant for their survival on cyborgs. In Twilight, the thin strip of habitable zone at the edge of Day and Night, survives the rest of humanity. In the small village of Accaia, a wandering warrior meets a sorceress and fathers a child: Arkadi, who will change the course of this decayed world. Humanoids, 2025. Mature Readers....More.

THE MARVEL COMIC COVERS OF JACK KIRBY Volume 1 1961-1964

The first volume of this series contains more than 175 classic Kirby covers from 1961 to 1964, including the earliest issues of The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, Journey into Mystery (Thor), Strange Tales (The Human Torch), Tales to Astonish (Ant-Man), Sgt. Fury, Daredevil, The X-Men and all the stunning annuals too. Plus a few classic pre-hero monster covers, the first issues of all the premier titles, all in chronological order. It also features Russell's Opus 81: The Norse Saga in 24 Panels, which features paintings relating to his comic-book adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology. DC FINEST HARLEY QUINN Birth of the Mirth
Collects Harley Quinn #1, Harley Quinn #1-8, and much, much more, 1994-2001. Recommended. Harley Quinn was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm for Batman: The Animated Series in the early 1990s, but her popularity among Batman fans soon led her to being introduced into comic books—which helped propel her to the worldwide multimedia stardom the character enjoys today. This collects Harley’s earliest comics adventures, including her very first comic book appearance in The Batman Adventures #12, the Batman: Harley Quinn one-shot that introduced the character into DC Universe continuity, the Eisner Award-winning The Batman Adventures: Mad Love, and the first eight issues of her debut ongoing series. IBIS THE INVINCIBLE Volume 2
Highly Rcommended. By Bill Woolfolk et al. Art by Gus Ricca, Schaffenberger, Basil Wolverton et al. This volume includes: Ibis the Invincible #4-6, 1946-48; Whiz Comics #2: "Ibis Lives Again," 1940; All Hero Comics #1, introducing "Banshee O'Brien, Boy Enchanter," in the "Mystery of the Modern Monster," 1943; Danger & Adventure #22: "The Viking Horde," 1955; Whiz Comics: Wheaties Miniature Edition "Ibis and the Devil Dolls," 1947. BULLETMAN Volume 4
Collects #10-12, 1942-43. Recommended. By Otto Binder et al. Art by the Jack Binder Shop. Bulletman and Bulletgirl return in more classic wartime stories, and also battling some very inventive villiains: the Fiendish Fidder, Mr. Ego, The Waxer, The Weeper, The Crackpot, The Queen of Diamonds — even a giant robot on the cover story for #12. Bulletdog is introduced and they actually had a contest to name him. Great old-school 68-page issues! Join Jim Barr and Susan Kent as they soar through the pages of Golden Age classics; Mac Raboy helped popularize the character but he's not in these issues. PS Artbooks, 2025....More.

Item Code: BULL04

MAC RABOY Master of the Comics
The first-ever book on this hugely talented artist. Our Highest Recommendation. By Roger Hill. Introduction by Roy Thomas. Beginning with his WPA etchings during the 1930s, Mac Raboy struggled to survive the Great Depression and eventually found his way into the comics. He perfected his art style on early stories of Dr. Voodoo, Zorro The Mystery Man, Bulletman, Spy Smasher, (all for Fawcett), The Green Lama and, finally, his crowning achievement, Captain Marvel Jr. Raboy went on to illustrate the Flash Gordon Sunday newspaper strip, and left behind a legacy of meticulous perfection. Through extensive research and interviews with son David Raboy, and with several of Mac Raboy's Golden Age assistants, author Roger Hill brings Mac Raboy, the man and the artist, into focus. Vintage Wonder Woman!

WONDER WOMAN THE GOLDEN AGE Omnibus Volume 6
Collects Sensation Comics #105-106, Wonder Woman #48-54, 1951-52. Highly Recommended. By Robert Kanigher. Art by Harry G. Peter, Irwin Hasen and Bernard Sachs. More great Golden Age adventures collecting some of the scarcest issues in the run. And we quite enjoy these — Wonder Woman is evolving with cool hipper adventures and some really wonderful covers. The series enters the 1950s; as other super heroes were falling by the wayside, Wonder Woman, along with Batman and Superman, was among the very few heroes to survive and prosper right on into the 1960s and beyond. This collects the last stories in her long run in Sensation Comics, which are beginning to more fully develop her character. Issue #49 was used in SOTI, and the one from #50 in Parade of Pleasure. The last pre-code issue would be #72. DC Comics, 2025....More.

He became very close friends with Dave Stevens. Mark Evanier has a nice short piece on Jim’s work, and I love this quote: "Dave Stevens never felt his work was complete until he'd shown it to Jim and received a thumbs-up, and once I saw them spend twenty minutes discussing the way Dave had drawn Bettie Page's foot." – That’s so Dave!

We worked with Jim in 1995. He designed, wrote and drew several pages of artwork for Bettie Page: Queen of Hearts, published by Dark Horse. I'd found a small stash of unpublished "camera club" pictures taken by an amateur San Francisco photographer and these became the springboard for the book. Jim took it much further, discussing Betty's influences and gathering commissioned artwork from his friends.

The book went through nine printings and is long out of print. Jim was a pleasure to work with, and I visited him once many years ago. I greatly enjoyed seeing his collection of original studies by J.C. Leyendecker and Maxfield Parrish, and books illustrated by Howard Pyle and others. We worked with Bettie directly and paid her royalties.

Here’s an outstanding look at Jim’s long career, including his work with Frazetta, his pin-up books and more about his early career in record album design and photography of Hollywood greats!
