We’ve put together the 2024 Bestsellers for you this week, instead of our regular new items email. See News & Notes for the handful of items that came in, which will be listed in their entirety next week. This year we broke up the Bestsellers into separate categories. This offers a broader range of items rather than just a straight top 60 like we did last year. As I do each year, I’ve gone through each title and below the regular description I have added my personal comments. Many of these are my own favorite items. I try to offer some perspective on why it’s done so well as well as more details. Any Bestsellers that sold out are not in the main list, but are listed in my notes below each category. |

20. THE CHILLINGLY WEIRD ART OF MATT FOX Our Highest Recommendation. Matt Fox (1906-1988) first gained notoriety for his bizarre cover paintings on the pulp magazine Weird Tales from 1943 to 1951. His created ghouls, demons, and grotesqueries of all types, evoking a disquieting horror vibe that no one since has ever matched. He went on into comics and his 1950s cover illustrations, his lone story for Chilling Tales, put them at the top of all pre-code horror comic enthusiasts' want lists. He brought his evocative storytelling skills (and an almost Basil Wolverton-esque ink line) to Atlas/Marvel horror comics of the 1950s and ‘60s as an inker, too! But since Fox never gave an interview, this unique creator remained largely unheralded until now! TwoMorrows. 2023. ...More. Item Code: CHILMHS Hard Cover, 8x11, 128pg, Full Color $29.95 |

23. ILENE MEYER Paintings Drawings Perceptions Deluxe Closeout Price! Publisher file copy. Slipcased. Signed & numbered, 500. Highly Recommended! Edited by Cathy and Arnie Fenner. Ilene Meyer's oil paintings transport viewers through the mists of myths and creation to explore a unique world populated by fantastical creatures and imaginary landscapes — all rendered with clarity and passion. As surreal as Pablo Picasso or Salvador Dali, as evocative as Georgia O'Keeffe, this gallery introduces SF and New Age aficionados to the first full-scale celebration of Meyer's work. Invoking themes of ecology, conservation, culture, and lost civilizations, Meyer's paintings pronounce that all existence is interconnected and that all souls are intertwined. A cultural sensation in Japan and the subject of numerous articles, interviews and even a documentary film, Meyer is perfectly primed to enchant America with her bold, painterly style. Carl Barks's first foray into his signature series of adventures in "lost civilizations'' takes the Ducks deep into the Everglades, where they find themselves bedeviled by the enigmatic Gneezles, who have escaped detection from outsiders since the days of Ponce de León — and want to keep it that way. But here we find the original Golden Age creation, who had a long tenure in his own title as well as Wonderworld Comics. Fox Publications had many top talents in their earliest comics — #1 features a Lou Fine cover and multiple stories by Will Eisner (Yarko the Magician) and Bob Powell. Joe Simon drew the cover of #3, just before partnering up with Jack Kirby! With dynamic visuals and a narrative that captures the spirit of a bygone era...the roots of superhero storytelling, where it all began! PS Artbooks, 2024....More. Item Code: BLUEB01 Soft Cover, 7x10, 208pg, Full Color $32.99 |
The oddball but long, long-running Fox superhero. Click here for Volume 2. |
8. BULLETMAN Volume 2 Collects #4-6, 1942. Recommended. By Mac Raboy, Bill Ward, Ed Dobrotka et al. Three fine 64-page issues. This popular Fawcett hero, the cover feature on Master Comics until Captain Marvel Jr. took it over, gains his own bi-monthly title. Join Jim Barr and Susan Kent as they harness the might of science to become Bulletman and Bulletgirl, defending a world teetering on the edge of chaos in the midst of World War II. Raboy provides the cover art (no stories) for #4 and #5, and the excellent artist Charles Sultan draws the cover of #6. Much of the art inside is not attributed (Ward does do a story in each issue). PS Artbooks, 2024....More. Item Code: BULL02 Soft Cover, 7x10, 204pg, Full Color $32.99 |
Another uncommon and fun Fawcett title. Well drawn. |

Comic Book Archives: Our #1 bestselling Archive last year was The Complete Web of Horror from Fantagraphics. I gave it my highest recommendation, filled as it is with wonderful work by Berni Wrightson and the young turks, doing non-code comics competing against Warren in the 1970s. We hope to see a new edition of this, it deserves it. Black Condor and The Ray would have made this list, but both editions went out of print upon publication—we couldn’t get a single backorder. As I write this, we have five Hardcovers left [BLACR01H. $52.99]. Plastic Man came in just off the cut-off for this list. Another fine Quality Comics title, entirely by Jack Cole. 4. SKY MASTERS OF THE SPACE FORCE The Complete Sunday Strips in Color New Edition, larger size with 16 bonus pages in color. Our Highest Recommendation. By Jack Kirby and Wally Wood. The Sky Masters of the Space Force newspaper strip is one of the most fascinating and obscure works by comics legend Jack Kirby. Created and developed by Kirby with writer Dave Wood at the beginning of 1958 while Kirby was working for National (DC), the Sky Masters daily strip debuted on September 8 of that year. Five months later, on February 8, 1959, the color Sunday strips arrived featuring a totally independent story line from the dailies. The strip narrates, with a realistic approach, the adventures of Major Sky Masters during the early days of space exploration in the late 1950s, just as a new front opened in the Cold War between the U.S. and U.S.S.R.: a frenzied space race. Kirby Museum Press, 2024. Due: Jan....More. Item Code: SKYMH Hard Cover, 10x14, 144pg, Partial Color $55.00 |

Frazetta was #2; it is almost gone now [FRAZ25. $17.99]. The second title, Frazetta & Burroughs, Masters of Adventure is a deluxe special from the family. Click here to see all that are still available. |
We didn’t take up space on these either, but once again, our top sellers are Paperback Book bags and Magazine Bags, and 10” Fold-On dust jacket covers, the most popular size. |
News & Notes |
|
As you can see, some of the bestselling items sold out quickly and may or may not be reprinted. Publishers continue to be careful not to overprint, so sometimes that catches up with them and us, and we run out too soon. Fantagraphics has been very conservative on some great items, like both of the last two EC Fan Addicts. These are part of their "fanzine" line, which I’m pleased to see continue, but they do have limited print runs. |
New items this week As mentioned above, since we had so few new items come in for this week’s deadline, we will list them all next week. Here are those new arrivals: GUNCC – Gun Honey Collision Course – We listed the Adam Hughes cover in our December 26 Email, but we neglected to mention this variant cover. It just rolled in this week. It has an impressive cover by Alex Ronald, every bit as good as the Adam Hughes cover! |
|
DCFSUPG – DC Finest Supergirl SAVSC01V - THE SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN Volume 1 Alex Horley Cover $24.99 (We are waiting on good copies of SAVOC01H to come in, our first order came in damaged.) Since our room this week is limited, here’s highlights of the new arrivals, including many comic book sets compiled from raw, original-owner copies. These all came from an old friend of mine who passed away, who bought most of these straight off the newsstand and bagged them in sets of 5 or 10, most never read! American Flagg Comics #1-50 set; Lone Wolf & Cub set of 35; Catwoman set of 22; Elvira set of 20; Marvel Star Trek set of 18; Berni Wrightson set of 3; Flash Gordon The Movie (Al Williamson); Howard Chaykin’s Blackhawk set; Marvels set of 5; Batman the Cult set of 4; Promethea Complete Set; Usagi Yojimbo Set; Illustration Magazine – 8 new back issues; Wally Wood’s Thunder Agents Complete set; Shanna the She-Devil signed by Frank Cho; Avengers/JLA Deluxe Collector’s Edition.
