Atlas Comics Library

ATLAS COMICS LIBRARY Volume 8 Snafu
Collects the complete Snafu, #1-3, 1955-56. Highly Recommended. When Harvey Kurtzman and Bill Gaines launched EC’s Mad comic book as a warmly received satirical magazine, a flood of imitators soon filled newsstands, but the first and best to follow in Mad’s footsteps (coinciding with the second issue of Mad magazine) was Snafu, edited and written by Kurtzman’s former boss: Stan “The Man” Lee! Snafu was packed with Marvel/Atlas’ top humor creators and, following the Mad playbook, filled pages with ad and news spoofs, alongside film, television, and book parodies like “The Blackboard Forest” by Russ Heath, “Pete Kelsey’s Booze” and “Bleed, You Bum!” by Joe Maneely, “Drugnet” by Howie Post, “Emily Toast’s Etiquette Page” by John Severin, and “Snafu’s Lovely Ladies” by Bill Everett, with production supervised by Marie Severin. Seen here is some of the most eye-popping work of Maneely’s short life, including great Hollywood caricatures done in a wash style. Fantagraphics, 2025....More.

Item Code: ATL08H
Hard Cover, 9x12, 218pg, Partial Color
$39.99 $36.99
Fantagraphics' ATLAS COMICS LIBRARY series is a favorite of mine... they just knock it out of the park with every volume. And this one, collecting the 3-issue run of Atlas Comics' answer to MAD Magazine's success, is another winner. With work by Russ Heath, Joe Maneely, John Severin, Bill Everett and more, it's a who's who of Atlas/Marvel's best. And Stan Lee wrote and edited it all!

ATLAS COMICS LIBRARY Volume 7 Girl Comics
Collects Girl Comics #1-12, 1949-52. Highly Recommended. A monster of a book, 397 pages of — surprise — adventure, crime and mystery! Girl Comics quickly evolved from love stories into hair-raising thrill rides like "The Death Plunge!," "The House of Shadows!," "I was a Murderer’s Daughter!," "They Called me a Spy!," "The Dead Hands at the Controls," and "The Dark Hallway." In 1950, Timely/Atlas/Marvel made Girl Comics a sister companion to their successful men’s-adventure comics: an empowering girls’ adventure comic! And by a stellar artistic line-up: John Buscema, Mike Sekowsky, Bill Everett, Joe Maneely, Russ Heath, and Bernard Krigstein. Fantagraphics, 2025....More.

Zeb Wells' run on Amazing Spider-Man (illustrated by John Romita, Jr.) divided readers with its often shocking and at times unbelievable plot twists and "out-of-left-field" character moments. MARVEL UNIVERSE By Arthur Adams Omnibus

Like all great comic book artists, Arthur Adams earned his way in through long, hard work, by hitting the pavement with his portfolio in hand. But it didn’t seem that way. Arthur Adams seemed to burst out of the clear blue sky with an avalanche of unbelievable artwork. Energetic, richly detailed, full of character and just plain fun, his art merged East and West, bringing manga influences to American readers and influencing a generation of future artists. This Omnibus collects his complete Marvel work from the 1980s through the early 1990s in one volume. Then, the Falcon is lost in an other-dimensional asylum — that’s run by the inmates! The tale of the Night People and Agron the Unburied One is a tense sci-fi horror thriller. News & Notes

Mike Richardson leaves Dark Horse after 40 years

I’ve been friends with Mike Richardson since the beginning. We once took our kids out on Lake Oswego with him and his family, when we both had young ‘uns, and I visited him again when he was outgrowing his first house and bought the house next to it to house his already amazing collection. He's a super energetic, enthusiastic guy; he used to fly to Hollywood virtually every week for a day or two, when the film work was hot and heavy. That's dedication!

I’ve always had a huge respect for Mike and Dark Horse. I loved Concrete and so many of their projects. Like the old Kitchen Sink Press, they have always been a significant part of our product mix and among our favorite books. I wish him well with whatever he decides to do next. — By Bud Plant

Product Notes

We recently learned that COMIC BOOK CREATOR #40 (CBCR40 / $24.95), the Dave Stevens double-issue special from TwoMorrows, is out of print from the publisher. We have roughly 20 copies left of this fantastic and bestselling tribute to the late creator of The Rocketeer. So if you've been on the fence about picking this one up from us, don't miss your opportunity to add this one to your library!

Also, the Signed & Numbered version of Jim Starlin's 'BREED OMNIBUS is officially out of print. We were able to get FOUR of the last remaining copies from the publisher, and they should be back in stock in a week or two. If you want one of these signed editions, you'll need to call in to place your order. Please use sku JIMBHS. We have more copies of the unsigned hardcover also on the way.

Finally, I wanted to draw your attention to an editorial error in the FLASH GORDON CLASSIC COLLECTION: The Complete Sunday Strips Volume 5 1951-1953 (FLAG05H / $44.99). It seems there was an unfortunate miscommunication between the licensor and the publisher. The collection was titled as if it contained Sunday pages, when in fact the contents had switched to Dailies with this volume. While Volume 6 correctly identifies its Dailies content on its cover, Volume 5 is erroneously titled as featuring "Sundays." Despite the error, there are currently no plans to reprint the volume. This will most likely happen when the current print run is exhausted. We have more copies on order, and it is available for backorder. Click here to see the previous volumes.
