PRINCE VALIANT Volume 18
Sunday Pages, 1971-72. Highly Recommended. By Hal Foster. Here are Hal Foster's final pages leading up to his magnificent final page, #1769 to 1788; then we begin John Cullen Murphy's pages drawn from Foster's rough pencils. Also includes "Memories of Hal and Jack" by Brian Walker, and a bonus 13 pages of rare specialty Val artwork by Foster. In Camelot, the troubled Zanedon reveals himself to be a runaway groom as the mischievous twins, Karen and Valeta, hide him in their stable. Prince Arn quenches a coup, Val ends a tyrant's reign with tough love, and Val must win back the queen of (his) heart, Aleta, when a poet with a wandering eye makes the Misty Isles his playground. R. CRUMB'S DREAM DIARY
Highly Recommended. Edited by Ronald Bronstein and Sammy Harkham. For more than 40 years, R. Crumb has documented his nightly dreams in a meticulously kept, written journal. This stood as a guarded secret, strangely enough, while Crumb has never lacked a compulsion to write about the rest of his life...in his comics. All of his well-documented preoccupations are present—rampant egomania, insatiable lust, profound self-disgust, the sad beauty of old America, the moral bankruptcy of new America and the fool's errand quest for spiritual enlightenment. Here they are, entirely untamed, springing forth from forces beyond even his control--his own sub-conscious. All published for the first time. Lightly illustrated. Elara Press, 2018...More.

EMMA G. WILDFORD
Newly translated from the French album. Highly Recommended. A delightful period piece about a feisty young poetess whose fiancé has disappeared on an expedition to the Arctic. She's lovely, etheral, independent, confident and naive. It's been fourteen months and now Emma Wildford is going to track him down herself, with the aid of a single Lapland guide--a Cambridge-educated Englishman who loves the land and is as philisophical as Emma is. I really enjoyed this, it has surprising twists and turns--including a mythological "bringer of fire" on a lost island. Minor nudity. Brilliant art and story. Titan, 2017...More.

Item Code: EMMAH
Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 8x11, 104pg, Full Color
$24.99 $21.99

I really enjoyed this. If you have been checking out the recent French albums like this and enjoying any of them as much as I am, don't miss The Reprieve, Flight of the Raven, Luisa Now and Then, Carthago, Downward to the Earth and just out, the adult Djinn, which I gave my highest recommendation.

ENOLA HOLMES The Case of the Missing Marquess
Sherlock Holmes' Younger Sister! Recommended. By Serena Blasco. With Sherlock and Mycroft off in London, their younger sister Enola has been raised by her mother on the family's country manor. But Enola wakes on her 14th birthday to discover that her mother has disappeared, leaving only a collection of flowers and a coded message book. With Sherlock and Mycroft determined to ship her off to a boarding school, Enola escapes, displaying a cleverness that even impresses the elder Holmes. But nothing prepares her for what lies ahead. An all-ages tale that's light and fun, I enjoyed it and look forward to the next installment. IDW, 2018...More.

FUNNY GIRLS Guffaws, Guts, and Gender in Classic American Comics
Recommended. By Michelle Ann Abate. Throughout the first half of the twentieth century, comics were enjoyed equally by both sexes, and girls were the protagonists of some of the earliest, most successful, and most influential comics. Abate, an associate professor of literature, examines the important but long-overlooked cadre of young female protagonists, from Little Orphan Annie and Nancy to Little Lulu, Little Audrey of the Harvey Girls, and Li'l Tomboy--a group that collectively forms a tradition of funny girls in American comics. Abate demonstrates the massive popularity these offbeat titles enjoyed, revealing their unexplored narrative richness, aesthetic complexity, and critical possibility. TURNER'S SKETCHBOOKS
By Ian Warrell. One of the most popular painters of all time, J. M. W. Turner (1775–1851) created a remarkable collection of sketchbooks over the course of his career. Now in paperback, this first full survey of the artist's sketchbooks invites readers to take a privileged look over Turner's shoulder, witnessing the creation and development of ideas that can be traced through to his major paintings, from pencil sketches to water color roughs to more detailed preliminary renderings of landscapes, ships, harbors, and mountains. News and Notes

Our Christmas Card is here and we’re sending them to selected customers now. We’ll also put them in all orders that come in over the next week to ten days. The printer jumbled up the type on the back cover, more irritating than it is serious. Here is how it should have appeared:

Detective Comics Before Batman

I carefully announced this last week with my glowing endorsement, only to find out the project is (I hope temporarily) cancelled by DC. Arghh.

Wally Wood Christmas Book

This new book from Vanguard just arrived, and is a fun and inexpensive stocking stuffer still in time for Christmas.  [WALWCH. $9.95]

Haddon Sundblom

This has gone out of print and we have ripped through out last copies, as it is the cover feature on the newest catalog. We had set aside 19 copies with bumped corners, so we are now filling orders with these until they are gone. They are close to, but not perfect, but this was limited to just 900. I expect it will be selling for a premium in no time at all.

Out of Print Report

Alley Oop Sundays Vol 1 and 2. We have one left of volume 1, none of volume 2.

Wonder Woman Justice League Diorama —we have three left, 1 with a slightly bumped display box.

J.A.W. Cooper – Flora & Fauna, and Familiars are sold out. We still have a few copies of Viscera.

Comic Book Priceguide 48: Planet of the Apes Hardcover — three left; the softcover is still available. We still have the limited American Flagg edition and Green Lantern/Green Arrow SC and HC. The Big Big book is completely sold out.
