Item Code: BLH01H Hard Cover, 8x12, 408pg, Full Color |
I just began reading this and it had me hooked within the first few pages. It’s got classic comics tropes, from Kirby-esque monsters to heroes with origins that sound vaguely familiarbut with a twist. There’s a take on Captain America, another on Mary Marvel, perhaps a Martian Manhunter take, maybe Adam Strange...but I can’t do it justice here. A host of creators offer testimonials to this series, which won the Will Eisner Award. They include Mark Waid, James Robinson, Mark Miller, Dan Jurgens, and othersand of course, Mike Mignola, who I quote in the full description. I’ll write full review as soon as I finish it. I REALLY think this is handsomely drawn and beautifully written, with sharp, sympathetic characters. |
ATOMIC EMPIRE Recommended. By Thierry Smolderen. Art by Alexandre Clérisse. Tomorrow... is just 121,000 years away! An astonishing and captivating original graphic novel from France. A brain teaser and a space opera immersed in the fluid and aerodynamic imagery of 1950s sci-fi. Fun graphics, offbeat characters, a little sex, drugs and hallucinations, mental telepathy--it's like nothing we've read before. But it includes references to real life sci-fi novels and pulp magazines, which is cool. It's just 1953, but Paul is in telepathic contact with a galactic space warrior and hero from the far, far distant future and thousands of light years away. IDW, 2018...More. Item Code: ATOMH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x9, 144pg, Full Color |
Another unique graphic novel from France, but this one is really, really retro 1950s and as weird as it gets. I think I need to read it again! |
DUNKIRK FROM THE PAGES OF COMBAT Sam Glanzman Reprints Dell's Combat #10, 1963. Highly Recommended. Edited by Jon B. Cooke. First in a series of reprints of this famous title from the 1960s, entirely illustrated by Sam Glanzman. Includes restored story pages and lots of extra content, including the original painted cover. Four complete stories carry us through this hallowed battle, as the Nazis pushed the entire British army, before the United States entered the war, right onto the shores of France. Only by mobilizing every private boat and anything that floated to carry them off, did they stave off a horrible defeat that might have changed the course of World War II. It's Alive, 2018...More. Item Code: DUNKI Soft Cover, 7x10, 48pg, Full Color $9.99 |
We have just three copies now of the Walt Simonson variant cover [DUNKIV. $19.99]—we may or may not get any more. |

Now, all this newly created material has been collected together, complete with comparisons and text pieces explaining what was changed, what was added, and why! Friendships are forged, allies are mourned and lives are transformed in these rare tales that dance between the raindrops of some of the most revered X-Men comics of all time! SUPERMAN THE SILVER AGE SUNDAYS Volume 1 1959-1963 Eighteen complete Sunday Adventures. Highly Recommended. By Jerry Siegel, Otto Binder, Edmond Hamilton et al. Art by Wayne Boring. Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel returned to DC and became writer, once again, of the newspaper comic strip along with DC's other top writers. In these eighteen classic adventures from October 18, 1959 to January 20, 1963, the Man of Steel meets "The Kryptonite Girl" and his "Mermaid Sweetheart." Also featured are Superman's "Greatest Feats," "The Super Powers of Perry White," "The Invasion of the Super-Ants," and "The Creature of 1,000 Disguises," among other early '60s tales drawn by Wayne Boring. And "Superman Joins the Army," a theme DC refused to touch on during World War II. Find out why, here. IDW, 2018...More. Item Code: SUSS01H Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 9x12, 184pg, Full Color |

PRINCE VALIANT 4-6 Slipcase Set 1943-48. Our Highest Recommendation. By Hal Foster. Hal Foster's Prince Valiant is one of the most magnificent adventure comics ever and Fantagraphics' reprinting is the loveliest treatment of the strip in the history of publishing. This deluxe slipcase is the perfect way to display and yet protect this second set of volumes with six full years, collecting the strip's amazing adventures that ran from 1943 through 1948 (see full details with each individual volume on our website)! A companion to the first boxed set of Volumes 1-3, and hopefully an annual event to continue to offer deluxe, nicely illustrated boxes of the continuing series. Beware: these slipcased sets sometimes sell out unexpectedly. Fantagraphics, 2018...More. Item Code: PVS02P Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 11x14, 336pg, Full Color |

PRINCE VALIANT Volume 5 Back in stock. New printing. Sunday Pages, 1945-46. Our Highest Recommendation. By Hal Foster. Fully half of this volume is devoted to the conclusion of "The Winning of Aleta," the two-year epic in which Valiant first holds the beautiful queen of the Misty Isles, Aleta, responsible for the deaths of his sailing comrades. He kidnaps her and in nearly a deranged state, drags her through the capitals of his world--while slowly falling in love with her. She knows Val is good and noble, and quietly humors him until he comes to his senses. It's one of the best PV stories EVER. Then in "War in the Forest," Val is sent out to spy on encroaching Saxons--unknowingly aided by a disguised Aleta. Fantagraphics, 2012...More. Item Code: PV05H Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 11x14, 112pg, Full Color |
This was just reprinted, making all the volumes 1-18 available again. See more Prince Valiant on our site. |
PEANUTS EVERY SUNDAY Volume 6 Color Sunday Pages, 1976-80. Highly Recommended. By Charles M. Schulz. Linus, Charlie Brown, Pig-Pen, Shermy, Violet, Sally, Patty, and Schroeder are all present, as is the burgeoning international superstar, Snoopy, in quite a large number of great little vignettes. Scrupulously re-colored to optimize the original newspaper coloring, but with far better printing and paper than was ever used on any newspaper. Since their original publication, Peanuts Sundays have almost always been collected and reprinted in black and white. But many who read Peanuts in their original Sunday papers remain fond of the striking, pastel-heavy coloring, which makes for a surprisingly different reading experience. Fantagraphics, 2018...More. Item Code: PES06H Hard Cover, 13x10, 288pg, Full Color |

ALSO AVAILABLE PEANUTS DELL ARCHIVE 1957-62. Highly Recommended. By Charles Schulz. In collection for the first time ever! Charles never let his strip out of his hands, so when Dell wanted to do a Peanuts comic book, he took time off from the strip and drew these special covers and stories, unique to the series. For that reason, these have never been included with the widely distributed newspaper strip collections. Published through the 1950s and 60s, the Dell Peanuts comic strips were drawn by Charles M. Schulz with a little help from his friends. These truly classic comics will delight any Peanuts fan, collector and newbie alike. kaboom!, 2018...More. Item Code: PEADH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 6x9, 352pg, Full Color |
We got caught short on this and ran out for several weeks. It's a great little item of never-before-collected stories from comics, and obviously I'm not the only one who likes it. Now it's back in stock. |
BARON BEAN The Complete Third Year 1918 Library of American Comics 12. The final year, Jan 1, 1918 to Jan 18, 1919, including previously "lost" strips. Recommended. By George Herriman. From Jared Gardner's introduction: "Perhaps sensing that Baron Bean was nearing its conclusion, Herriman had the strip moving at a frenetic pace right up to the very end. In the course of a little more than a year, the self-styled "baron" and his not-so-faithful retainer Grimes take on more than a dozen new careers, including secret agent, freight conductor, wandering minstrel, hot dog vendor, pilot, movie actor, fireman, newspaper editor, and constable. They engage in the latest fads of the era, including amateur astronomy and spiritualism. And, inevitably, there are the endless rounds of masquerade...ever more elaborate disguises in their desperate desire to know what the other is up to." IDW, 2018...More. The publisher price will change to $399 at some point, so we can only honor the special price while our supply lasts. Sculpted by Steve Kiwis of Rvckvs International, this is based on J. Scott Campbell's cover to the seminal 2010 Warlord of Mars #1 comic book. And it's pure Campbell. PS ARTBOOKS PRESENTS AUTHENTIC POLICE CASES Volume 1 Collects #6-10, 1948-50. Highly Recommended. By Matt Baker et al. Here's a new slant for PS Artbooks, PS Presents, a series of one-off volumes featuring one character or the best of one title, without necessarily collecting the entire run. First up is St. John's greatly under-rated Authentic Police Stories, featuring issues #6-10 of that title (1948-1950) which are packed with artwork and covers by Matt Baker. #6 has a SOTI Baker cover, "An Invitation to Learning," #7 includes a notorious Jack Cole story. If this new format proves popular then it's more than likely they'll do do another volume, simple as that. PS Artbooks, 2019. Due Feb. ...More. Item Code: PSAP01H Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color $44.99 |
PRE-CODE CLASSICS WEB OF MYSTERY Volume 4 Collects #19-24 1953-54. Recommended. By Jim McLaughlin et al. Lots of exceptional artwork by Lou Cameron. This also reprints, as issue #19, the entire Challenge of the Unknown #6, a one-shot with "Villa of the Vampire" by Mike Sekowsky, which was used in the N.Y. Joint Legislative Committee in their attack on comics. Plus more classic horror and fantasy stories in bad and badder taste, from the under-appreciated Ace Magazines. Ace's first choice for this title was Creepy Stories but the name was changed before the first issue came out in 1951. PS Artbooks, 2019. Due Feb. ...More. Item Code: PCW04H Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 216pg, Full Color $54.99 |
See previous volumes on our website. Volume 1 is in stock; volumes 2 and probably 3 are both on the way here as I write this. |
PRE-CODE CLASSICS TALES OF HORROR Volume 1 Collects Tales of Terror #1, 1951, & Tales of Horror #1-4, 1952-53. Recommended. By Myron Fass, John Fawcette, Ravielli, Hollingsworth et al. Toby Press was a small but respectable comics publisher, which also used the imprint Minoan; they put out one issue of Tales of Terror, then got hit by a cease-and-desist order from E.C., who used that title for their annuals. Toby dropped that and started over with Tales of Horror, which ran thirteen issues. Toby may be the only comics publisher to swipe the urbane and cynical stories of John Collier, rather than relying on Poe, Lovecraft, and the like. "This is Terror-Man" in #1 and torture scenes in #2. PS Artbooks, 2019. Due Feb. ...More. Item Code: PCCT01H Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color $44.99 |

Guest at Comic Fest (March) and Comic-Con (July) I guess I'm living right these days. I've been invited to be a guest at the upcoming Comic Fest in San Diego, which I have never before attended. I won't be exhibiting, just spending time there as a fan and on some panels. And San Diego Comic-Con is celebrating show #50 in 2019, and I have also had the honor of being invited to attend there too. As you may recall, we did not exhibit in 2018. I even let the show slide by and didn't make it down there myself. But this time I will be there, to participate in panels and talks and hang out on the show floor for all five days. I hope to see many of you at one or both shows. ~Bud |
