THE ART OF ALLEN ANDERSON
Limited, 900! Our Highest Recommendation. This is the ultimate and only book ever on the preemient but barely remembered pulp cover artist best known for his sexy women. His work is instantly recognizable, in covers for Planet Stories, Spicy Detective, Spicy Mystery, other Fiction House pulps like Action, Northwest, Lariat, and especially Jungle and the rare Sheena. He also did painted covers for Ziff-Davis comics: Eerie Adventures, G.I. Joe, Space Busters, Lars of Mars...he worked (and lived sometimes) with Norman Saunders, they were lifelong friends. Allen's work can easily be mistaken for Saunders'. Illustrated Press, 2019...More.

THE MONSTER ART OF BASIL GOGOS
Recommended. By Basil Gogos. The Monster Art of Basil Gogos was produced under a partnership between FantaCo and Basil Gogos' wife, Linda. They had access to ALL of Basil's private sketches and illustrations for some of his most famous paintings, as well as many hundreds of preliminary sketches for never published projects. This shows you how Basil used his sketches to create his wonderful paintings--arranged by monster (Wolfman, The Creature, Dracula, Frankenstein, etc). His wife has written the introduction and has added commentary explaining many of the images. Illustrated Press, 2019...More.

FLEETWAY PICTURES LIBRARY CLASSICS PRESENTS LARRIGAN
Highly Recommended. Art by Arturo Del Castillo. Arturo Del Castillo was able to craft images of enormous depth and beauty through cross-hatched pen lines, creating subtle patterns and textures, juxtaposed with bold chiaroscuro lighting, which was utterly unique in comics. Widely regarded as one of the greatest artists to have worked in the comic medium, we are privileged to see him at his very best on this gritty, realistic western in the class of Clint Eastwood and The Man With No Name. Great gunfights starring our lightening-draw vigilante. Book Palace, 2019...More.

X-MEN By Roy Thomas and Neal Adams
Collects #56-63 and #65, 1963. Deluxe oversize hardcover, 23 pages of bonus features. Our Highest Recommendation. By Roy Thomas. Art by Neal Adams and Tom Palmer. In 1969, with X-MEN on the verge of cancellation, the creative team of Roy Thomas and Neal Adams charted a bold new direction for Marvel's mutants...and the rest is history! Their epic evolution of the X-Men defines the team to this day. Adams' lavish and dynamic visuals and Thomas' challenging and contemporary stories combined to create a book that throbbed with the pulse of the times. LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT Michael Golden
Highly Recommended. By Dennis O'Neil, Gerry Conway et al. Art by Michael Golden. The 1970s stories starring Batman featuring the slick artwork of Michael Golden are collected for the first time, including appearances by the Demon and Man-Bat and stories never before collected. Golden is renowned for his design skills and unique interpretation of Batman and other heroes, as seen in these early stories, written by well-known comics writers including Dennis O'Neil, Gerry Conway and Mike W. Barr. I would compare his work to that of Michael Kaluta and Berni Wrightson. It's excellent, and the stories are also very good. DC Comics, 2019...More.

Here are some of the finest war stories ever told, covering the history of warfare, from Caesar and the Civil War, to WWII and Korea! Toth's "Thunderjet" is considered a highpoint of the artist's work and a rare appearance at EC. But Davis, Wood, Severin...they are all at their finest here. Cast in polyresin, the design is based on Horn's variant cover from Dark Knights: Metal. News and Notes

Power Outage

We're being told we may be without electricity again this week, so we are getting this done early and expecting the worst. As before, our website will be up and you can order online; the only problem is that our phones go out of operation, and we can't ship orders until the juice is back on. We are hoping this will be over by the time you read this, on Thursday night or Friday, and we will be shipping as usual on Friday. Thanks for your patience.

Christmas

For you early birds, our new catalog has a special section devoted to my personal gift recommendations. Foreign customers know they need to order early to get packages in time for Christmas. But I always suggest early is best domestically too, in case we run out of a title as the holiday approaches. I do my best not to have this happen, but it's not a perfect world and neither are my predictions of sales perfect. When we get a little closer to the holidays I'll do a special section here in the email. For now, you can see some of our Christmas books on the website here.
