PRE-CODE CLASSICS ATOMIC WAR! & CAPTAIN COURAGEOUS Volume 1
1952-53. By Ken Rice, Lou Cameron et al. Hey, gang! This one'll go with a BANG... what with the impending end of Planet Earth in the news. Yessir! But this four-issue volume of Ace's Atomic War! comic doesn't focus on the gentle global warming path to oblivion we're all of us currently taking, but rather the big "Hoo Boy, here comes the End of Everything!" approach we all of us figured would be the way humankind would hand in its chips, namely with mushroom clouds aplenty, bombs the size of city blocks, and floods to make Noah's problem look like he left a faucet running in the bathroom. PS Artbooks, 2019...More. Item Code: PCAW01H Hard Cover, 7x10, 216pg, Full Color $51.99 |
PRE-CODE CLASSICS MYSTERIES WEIRD AND STRANGE Volume 2
Collects #6-11, 1954-55. Art by Jay Disbrow, Iger Shop. This one's a wacky entry and no denying, with Canadian publisher Superior Comics coming into the the four-colour horror ring all gloved up and swinging fit to punch the lights out of anybody who stands in their way. They kicked off with Journey into Fear, Strange Mysteries (as opposed to pretty straightforward and perhaps even slightly boring mysteries) and the one-word extravaganza that was Mysteries, the latter calling itself variously Mysteries (its legal title) and, on the cover, Mysteries Weird and Strange. The earlier tales were bizarre and quirky and it's pretty clear that inspiration was in short supply that day. Good stuff though, Clancy, with pens, pencils and plots coming from, among others, Jay Disbrow and the Igor Shop: clear a space on the shelf pronto. PS Artbooks, 2019...More. Item Code: PCMW02H Hard Cover, 7x10, 184pg, Full Color $51.99 |
Volume 1 is in stock at $45.99, with more wild work by Jay Disbrow. |
