SHELL ART & ADVERTISING
Shell Motor Oil's finest promotions. Recommended. By Scott Anthony, Oliver Green, Nicky Penny and Margaret Timmers. A beautifully designed and illustrated book, with material taken from Shell Oil's remarkable archives from its origins up to the 1960's. Shell has a well-established reputation for this artistic heritage, particularly from its 1930's heyday, but this is the first publication to present and describe it comprehensively. Examinations of the historical, political, and social contexts of Shell's art and advertising enable the authors to assess the work's broader cultural significance. Lund Humphries, 2020....More.

Boy, was this a long time coming...it was first announced in 2019, I think. LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN Volume 4 The Tempest
After an epic twenty-year journey through the entirety of human culture — the biggest cross-continuity "universe" conceivable — Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill conclude the series, tying up the slenderest of plot threads and allusions from the three preceding volumes, The Black Dossier, and the Nemo trilogy, into a dazzling and ingenious bow. This demonstrates the excitement that attracted them to comics in the first place; and analyzes, critically and entertainingly, the reasons they are claiming for their departure from the comics world!!! News & Notes

Fantagraphics Short Printings

Lately a number of new Fantagraphics releases have sold out very quickly. This would indicate they are setting their prints runs very conservatively. Several of the Complete Carl Barks Library went OP far too fast. Also the latest EC Art Edition, Three for the Money, a Complete Peanuts Set, and the Don Rosa Uncle Scrooge Deluxe Signed Edition.

Sometimes we've been able to move quickly and find copies from a secondary source…we did so on the Uncle Scrooge, the EC book and a recent Barks, thank goodness. So we still have copies available, but it's something you may want to be aware of when considering ordering (or ordering in advance) Fantagraphics books.

The Enric book is making progress and now off the boat from overseas, but we expect it will be another four weeks until we see it.

Friday Foster, another long-awaited book, was supposed to come in this week but not so far. I expect we'll see it in time for next week's email.

Sugar Jones we finally had to cancel orders on…we were never able to get a reorder on this after our initial shipment.

~Bud
