| SPACEHAWK Back in print! Highly Recommended. Basil Wolverton is one of the greatest, most idiosyncratic talents in comic book history. Though he is best known for his humorous grotesqueries in MAD magazine, it is his science-fiction character Spacehawk that Wolverton fans have most often demanded be collected. The wait is over: Spacehawk features every story from Spacehawk’s intergalactic debut in 1940 to his final, Nazi-crushing adventure in 1942. Fantagraphics, 2026....More. Item Code: SPACHA Soft Cover, 9x13, 264pg, Full Color |

| While Jack Kirby was my first top artist (and always will be), as I dove deeper into Marvel's '70s sci-fi/horror anthology series, I started noticing stories from a particular artist whose style was unlike any of his contemporaries. Turns out, it was Basil Wolverton. Stories like "The Eye of Doom" and "The Brain Bats of Venus" sold me on this artist who, like Kirby, was "new" to me, but had been around for decades before. Years later I read my first Spacehawk tale, which originated from the '40s(!) and blew my mind. This volume (previously released and now, thankfully, back in print), collects all of Wolverton's Spacehawk adventures from Target Comics (1940-42), and is at the top of my list for pick-ups this week... and it should be on your list, too! Highly Recommended! |

DC FINEST JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA Starro The Conqueror Recommended. By Gardner Fox; Art by Mike Sekowsky, Sid Greene, & Bernard Sachs. Packed with battles against villains like Despero, Felix Faust, and Kanjar Ro, this collection showcases the early years of the JLA: wild sci-fi plots, impossible odds, and the birth of super-team chemistry. It’s the origin story for the world’s greatest heroes, told with the imagination and excitement of comics’ most influential era. DC Comics, 2026....More. Item Code: DCFJS Soft Cover, 7x10, 624pg, Full Color |
| The DC Finest series has been nothing but amazing, cramming lots of material into one volume for under $40. It's a great deal, and this particular volume is a must-have because it collects the earliest stories featuring the superhero collective known as The Justice League of America. These are the first appearances from The Brave and the Bold and the first 19 issues of the ongoing series. This is the good stuff. It was so good that Atlas/Marvel publisher Martin Goodman tasked Stan Lee to emulate its success... giving birth to the Fantastic Four... and Jack Kirby's homage to the cover of The Brave and The Bold #28 on FF #1. |

ATLAS CREATOR COLLECTION No. 3 Bill Everett Introduction by Dr. Michael J. Vassallo! Art by Bill Everett. The latest volume in Fantagraphics' Atlas Creator Collection focuses on the feverishly imaginative Bill Everett's brilliant masterpieces of skeletal horror and oozing, creeping dread. Already a Marvel/Timely legend for his creation of the Sub-Mariner in 1939, Bill Everett returned to Marvel during the 1950s to become Atlas' most versatile and effective practitioner of horror-fantasy. Everett's art was a combination of Graham Ingels, Harry Anderson, and Bernie Wrightson, with the slick ink line of Jack Davis, all melded within his own uniquely captivating imagery and in-your-face ghastliness. Fantagraphics, 2026....More. Item Code: ATLA03H Hard Cover, 10x14, 240pg, Full Color |

I've been a an enthusiastic supporter of Fantagraphics' Atlas reprint series, and especially their "Atlas Creator Collection" volumes. This latest release is perhaps the best of the bunch, featuring the outrageous and entertaining weird horror tales of Bill Everett. Bud has already been poring over this volume and was sharing with me his pure appreciation for this release: I’ve just been reading Dr. Michael J. Vassalo’s incredible 28-page introduction — OMG, so good, so richly illustrated, so informative. And I agree with Vassalo: for all the kudos to the other early Timely and Atlas artists, Everett is in a class by himself. And that’s all before you get to the 37 wild pre-code stories, plus oodles of cool cover art! Straight from Bud himself. Needless to say, this one comes with OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. And be sure to check out the other releases in Fantagraphics' ATLAS series. They are all fantastic! |

| DAVID WRIGHT'S JUDY Showcase The first four story arcs in the precursor series to David Wright's Carol Day! Recommended. By John Hunter as "Peter Meriton" & David Wright. In the early 1950s David Wright made an unusual career move for a successful commercial and pinup artist ““ he turned to comics. An early product of his new direction was the strip Judy, which he began in 1953 with John Hunter (writing as "Peter Meriton") providing scripts. Judy was a standard adventure strip for the time - a beautiful young girl is thrust into danger with her partner, Ricky, with their treasure-hunting exploits taking them to exotic locales across the globe for a series of loosely plotted melodramas.
