MIRAGES The Art of Laurent Durieux
Highly Recommended. Foreword by Francis Ford Coppola. When Edward Hopper meets Drew Struzan: the long awaited first monograph of Laurent Durieux. This Belgian illustrator is well known by pop culture fans for his cult movie poster remakes. They're freqently better than the originals, and certainly more authentic! The book includes a 6 page section of unpublished poster art. "...takes poster art to a high level. The images, which are stunningly executed, express ideas and themes of the movies he has chosen in new terms. They communicate much without words, and stand alongside the wonderful tradition of illustrative art." Cernunnos, 2020...More.

TALES The Art of Christian Alzmann Signed
Closeout Price! Signed bookplate, only 18 left! Highly Recommended. By Christian Alzmann. Foreword by Aaron McBride. Afterword by Iain McCaig. We liked this so much back in 2013, when it came out, we asked Alzmann to sign bookplates for us. This is his collection of digital paintings, color sketches and pencils. He also walks the reader through his digital painting process. His first work was at Industrial Light & Magic, and he's been senior VFX Art Director there for quite some time. He's worked on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015), AI (2013), and The Hunger Games (2012)! Design Studio, 2013...More.

He has been a creator of or contributor to many Disney animated films and theme park attractions, cultural institutions, and far more. Recommended. In the first decade of the 21st century, Joe Quesada has guided Marvel and its characters back to prominence as editor-in-chief. Along the way he has changed the manner in which the industry works from the inside out. With those achievements, it's perhaps easy to overlook that at the root of all his success is his skill as an artist. Martha Jane Cannary was a bona fide frontierswoman, a professional scout, a drunk, and sometime whore, doing whatever it took to stay alive in those hardscrabble days. CHURCHILL A Graphic Biography
Highly Recommended. By Vincent Delmas. Art by Christophe Regnault and Alessio Cammardella. Sir Winston Churchill is often referred to as the greatest Briton and is certainly one of the most important and central figures of the 20th century. Containing both his many pitfalls and triumphs, this graphic biography follows Churchill's upbringing, through his military exploits (many prior to World War I) and beyond. Best known for his role in World War II, this presents the Prime Minister's part and how it turned him into a political icon. But he begins as a young cavalryman in India in 1897--nearly losing his life there but for his skill and bravery. Dead Reckoning, 2020...More.

Completes the two-volume set. Highly Recommended. By Stan Lee. Art by Steve Ditko. HEAVY METAL MAGAZINE #296 Tristan Eaton Cover
Street Art Special. By Tristan Eaton, Ron English et al. Art Beau Stanton, Nick Walker et al. Some say that today's most innovative artists are not hunched over a desk pouring their souls out onto dead-tree or a Wacom -- but spray-painting and wheatpasting them onto walls. Don't tell them where art doesn't belong, because that's exactly where they'll take it. This issue includes conversations with leading artists Shepard Fairey and Hebru Brantley, and presents a thrilling tale from Tristan Eaton (all three are cover artists as well). With unconventional storytelling from other creators, plus "Murky World" by Richard Corben, Grant Morrison and Cerebus artist Gerhard collaborate and more. Heavy Metal, 2019...More.

Item Code: HM296A

We also have this with a variant cover by DEIH, which due to the limited quantity, just five copies as I write this, we never formally advertised [HM296. $9.99]. METAL HURLANT Selected Works
Best stories from 1981 and 2002. Recommended. By Geoff Johns, Kurt Busiek et al. Art by Ryan Sook, Mark Vigouroux et al. Métal Hurlant magazine was created in Paris in 1974 by Moebius, Druillet and Dionnet, the founding fathers of Les Humanoïdes. And which, of course, spawned Heavy Metal in the U.S. In 2002, Humanoids relaunched MH as a 13-issue anthology, with new work by Geoff Johns, Richard Corben, Kurt Busiek, Guy Davis, and Jerome Opena, among many others. This collects the best short stories, 23 of them, plus a never-translated story by Caza (who also does the cover) from 1981. Adult themes, nudity. Humanoids, 2020...More.

First published by Capital, then First Comics (which ran #1-37), a very successsful series. Alexis Devin was trained in the martial arts by her Japanese stepfather and this is just what saved her life when she became a target. She thought that putting on a mask would make her a superhero... but she quickly learns heroes aren't the kind you see in comic books. Comicmix, 2020...More.

PRE-CODE CLASSICS SCIENCE FICTION SPACE ADVENTURES Volume 3
Collects #11-15, 1954-55. Highly Recommended. Art by Steve Ditko, Dick Giordano et al. This third volume of Charlton's fit 'n' funky Space Adventures couldn't always make up its mind whether to go all-out-SF or all-out-Horror or, as evidenced here, a mix of the two. And up front we have Steve Ditko doing two covers and three stories -- also a fun robot cover. And the hallowed Blue Beetle also makes two rare 1950s appearances. Inspired by Wally Wood, young Dick Giordano offers flashes of talent here, Berni Krigstein does the cover to #15, and Superman's Joe Shuster does a story, too. PS Artbooks, 2020...More.

Starting with the Victorian literary and social context in which this story was created, it shows the ways it's been reimagined and reinterpreted by each new generation, from the original illustrations by John Tenniel to artwork by Peter Blake and Salvador Dali, and from the 1951 Disney movie to Tim Burton's 2010 interpretation. Mature Readers

The final Menage a 3, Volume 5, is here, concluding this fun webcomic series. For some reason it makes me think of Love and Rockets—maybe it's the spare but well-drawn style, or the cute lesbian and bi-sexual ladies...I don't know. The entire series is now collected in five very thick, manga-style books [MENA01, etc. $19.99 ea].

We've listed the Berserk series in both Comic Archives and adult — with violent themes and sex, it comes down in both categories. Volume 4 is here with more of the same from the very popular manga series.

From Glenn Danzig, who you may know for his Verotika comic imprint as well as his rock music, comes a movie he's made based on three of his comics stories. It's an anthology of separate stories, much like Creepshow by Stephen King. With adult themes, of course.

Coming in May is a new Bunny Yeager collection: Women of the Sun, Bunny Yeager in Mexico. Bunny did an entire series of collectible magazines in the sixties with naked ladies in exotic locations, and this looks to be a best of, while including new unpublished works. We worked closely with Bunny for many years, as she self-published magazines and print sets at the end of her career. This should be good. See our website for more of her work.
