I'm really enjoying reading this massive volume. The author combines a history of second Golden Age comic publishers (Harvey, Centaur, Fox, Prize, Ace, MLJ et al) with a VERY detailed look at each and every superhero they produced, including if they were revived in the 1950s or in modern times (often by Bill Black's Americomics line, as they resurrected public domain heroes and heroines). It's interesting to read about the origins of each, the best stories, gaining and losing sidekicks and girlfriends and partners, and even moving from one company to another. What a lot of work! It's not a book for a single evening, or even a week of evenings...this will take you quite some time to absorb, but it's worth the trip. Read my full description for more details. ~Bud |
