I enjoy looking back on the past year and discovering what our most popular items have been--and hope you do also. This year we're keeping it simple, just this one email and listing all the top 60 items in order, by units sold, with no category breakdowns. When there were multiple editions, i.e. HC, SC and/or Deluxe, we added them together to rank the title. To save space, we've dropped anything that went out of print and sold out. My personal comments are below most of the items--I 'm happy to offer a little more insight on what often may be my favorite items that we had the pleasure to handle. When applicable, we include links to other editions, volumes or related titles. I hope you enjoy browsing through, and perhaps discovering some books that have gotten by you! -Bud. |

1. FANTASTIC PAINTINGS OF FRAZETTA Deluxe |
It's been so long since we've seen a new Frazetta collection. Spurlock and Frank Jr. went back to the original 1970s Bantam Frazetta book and built on that, with additional artwork variant paintings, giving us early Frazetta work but with an all-new perspective. It went out of print quickly, but new printings of both HC and DLX just came in. |

The collection is brimming with both classic and previously unpublished works of the subjects Frazetta is best remembered for, including barbarians, beasts, and buxom beauties. 3. THE BIG TEASE A Naughty and Nice Collection New Printing, New Printing! Highly Recommended.By Bruce Timm. Bruce Timm has been creating elegant drawings of women for over 30 years, and nearly all of these charming nudes were drawn purely for fun after-hours. This book collects all three Teaser collections from 2011 to 2013, long sold out. Plus Surrender, My Sweet from 2015. In addition, Timm has created new material especially for this collection and delved into his personal archives to share pieces not shown before, culminating in more than 75 additional pages of material. Abundant nudity. Oversized. Flesk, 2020. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: BIGT Soft Cover, 9x12, 208pg, Partial Color $39.95 |
Wow, this was a new printing and still sold incredibley well. In fact, John Flesk just told us this too is out of print, again, but he plans a reprint. We have just a handful left right now, so we'll backorder this once we run though those. Timm added new material to this, making it even more attractive than the original edition. |

Thanks to Flesk letting us have copies of this "Publisher Exclusive," this latest collection did very well. The softcover is already out of print and Flesk has no plan to reprint it. But we still have enough of the signed hardcover for now. |
5. WARREN TUFTS' COMPLETE LANCE 1955-1960 1955-60. Our Highest Recommendation. By Warren Tufts. Fans have been asking for this ever since I first began selling comics 50 years ago. Warren Tuft's masterpiece Lance includes the entire run of this magnificent comic strip in one volume with the Sundays in full glorious color! Each daily and Sunday has been beautifully restored by Manuel Caldas. Also included in this volume: an in-depth analysis of Tufts' work on Lance by Zoran Djukanovic, biographical information, and more! Tufts was actually emulating Hal Foster's Prince Valiant, right down to the lack of word balloons, an ironic narrator, and brilliantly designed artwork in every panel. This is one of the best Sunday adventure strips you will ever see. Classic Comics Press, 2018....More. Item Code: WARTH Hard Cover, 9x12, 368pg, Full Color |
This was sale-priced, due to the publisher being forced to move. We featured it on a catalog cover when still $100, and remain very excited about how great it is. |
6. DAN BRERETON'S NOCTURNALS Volume 1 Black Planet and Other Stories Signed Closeout Price! Signed plate. From 2007. Highly Recommended. Handsome black leatherette binding, inlaid color cover plate, gold embossing, extra portrait and cover galleries,The first of three hardcovers reprinting the entire critically acclaimed Nocturnals storyline. Dan offered us several of his books at sale prices, and with him signing them, half price has been a huge selling point. Nocturnals Vol 2 also went on sale and made the bestsellers, but it sold out. Here's more from Dan. |
7. EERIE TALES MAGAZINE Volume 1 Replica of a rare 1959 horror magazine with GREAT artwork. Highly Recommended. Art by Al Williamson, Angelo Torres, Gray Morrow, Bob Powell, Joe Orlando, George Tuska & Paul Reinman. The contents of this were most likely for a never released, second issue of Weird Mysteries, since they have a horror host in common AND EC writer Carl Wessler again writes all the stories. And check out the ex-EC artists, as well as two stunningly great stories by a young Gray Morrow! This has the original black and white interior pages, including all ads but a full color cover—two in fact, one with PS's promotion, and a 2nd reproducing EXACTLY the original painted cover by George Tuska. PS Artbooks, 2020....More. Item Code: ETM01 Magazine, 8x11, 68pg, b&w $11.99 |

8. THE SHADOW #151 FINAL ISSUE! Four complete stories and wrap-up details. Highly Recommended. By Walter Gibson, Theodore Tinsley et al. Art by Paul Orban and Edd Cartier. Thrilling pulp tales by Walter B. Gibson, Theodore Tinsley and Bruce Elliott. First, murder suspects all have iron-clad defenses, leading The Shadow to investigate an “Alibi Trail.” Then "The Golden Doom” menaces a great hospital and threatens the life of The Shadow himself! Next, a victim is killed during a live video drama, and only Lamont Cranston can unmask the perpetrator of “The Television Murders." Finally, “The Whispering Eyes” are all victims recall of a sinister master of hypnotism in Walter Gibson's final Shadow pulp novel! Sanctum, 2019....More. Item Code: SHT151 Soft Cover, 7x10, 208pg, Text/b&w $19.95 |
This was the final issue in the series, with extra material. #149 and #150 also made the topsellers list. Unfortunately we can no longer reorder these, so we expect to run out of copies soon. Here's all the issues we have left of The Shadow. |

Spectrum is always going to show up somewhere on this list, even though it comes out very late in the year. Many earlier volumes are now on sale, thanks to Underwood Books being a friend and living nearby. He did Spectrum up to Vol 20, then Flesk took over. Flesk's last one will be this edition, so we're not sure yet who's doing it in 2021. We just sold out of the softcover, and it is out of print. |
10. THE EARLY PHOTOGRAPHS OF BETTIE PAGE An American Icon Closeout Price! Recommended. By Jack Faragasso. Never-before-seen Bettie Page photographs. In 1951, young art student Jack Faragasso hired a model for a photo shoot—Bettie Page, early in her career. Intimate shots from that afternoon session, accompanied by several of Jack's drawings and several finished book covers that he used the poses for. Topless and full nudity, classic poses plus unique shots. Bettie is also in nylons and undies. Lengthy intro about this session, written by Jack in 2013. Binary, 2013. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: EARP Soft Cover, 9x11, 60pg, b&w |
This was published in 2013, but we were able to list it again at a lower price. Jack Farragasso, the renowned artist, took these pictures himself as a young, aspiring artist. Here's more Bettie. |
11. ROY G. KRENKEL FATHER OF HEROIC FANTASY A Centennial Celebration Our Highest Recommendation. By AndrewSteven Damsits, Barry Klugerman. A magnificent, best-ever look at Krenkel's entire career. Oversized. Loaded with previously unpublished work. One of the most renowned fantasy artists of the 20th century. Krenkel's far-reaching influence on—and work with—artists like Frazetta, Williamson, Kaluta and Jeffrey Jones, to name but a few, was immeasurable and cannot be overstated. Krenkel illustrated Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert E. Howard and others—but much of his work, full-blown paintings and illustrations, often were unpublished and never seen by even his biggest fans. IDW, 2019....More. Item Code: ROYKH Hard Cover, 9x13, 304pg, Partial Color |
Long overdue, the best art book ever assembled on this deserving creator who was buddies, and worked with, Frazetta, Al Williamson and all the greats. I'm pleased I got to know him at the 1970s NY Cons, where he'd buy all the good art books from us. We also featured this on a catalog cover in early 2020. |
12. FOLD-ON ARCHIVAL BOOK JACKETS 12-Inch (10) 12x24. Ideal for rare and valuable books, these clear covers protect from tears, folds, stains, and any general edge wear. Takes less than 60 seconds to put on. Made from chemically stable Super-Clear 1.5-mil polyester film with a specially formulated pH-neutral PVA adhesive—premium protection without losing the brilliance of the jacket graphics! Fully adjustable and fits up to that size; i.e., 12" fits any book up to twelve-inches tall. Sold ten per size. Brodart....More. Item Code: JAF12 na, 12x24, 10 covers, na $9.95 |
I won't list the other dust jacket covers, but the 10 inch size came in right after this. These remain our most popular collector supply--this size fits most larger art books. See them all here. |
13. TELLING STORIES The Comic Art of Frank Frazetta Hardcover Slipcased Closeout Price! Highly Recommended. Art by Frank Frazetta. Fantasy art's most popular painter was also one of the most popular comic book illustrators during the industry's golden age. Telling Stories: The Comic Art of Frank Frazetta celebrates the rare and largely forgotten stories created five decades ago by this iconic artist. These jungle adventures, true-life tales of heroism, and dreamy love stories not only exhibit the skill of a master craftsman but also provide tantalizing glimpses of where the young artist's career would ultimately take him. Hardcover in slipcase! This was the ONLY trade edition of this book. Underwood Books, 2008....More. Item Code: TELSH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 9x12, 192 pg., Partial Color |
A perennial bestseller every year since we first reduced the price. It just didn't do well when it originally came out, partly it was the price, and also the book and also the slipcase were shrink-wrapped, making it hard for store customers to take a look. |
14. WEIRD MYSTERIES MAGAZINE Volume 1 Replica Edition. Creepy & EC style stories from 1959. Highly Recommended. By Carl Wessler. Art by George Tuska, Angelo Torres, Joe Orlando, Carl Burgos & Paul Reinman. A very rare, one-shot magazine that features EC writer Carl Wessler, and two EC artists. It even has a horror host, Morgue'n! This has the original black and white interior pages, including all ads but a full color cover—two in fact, one with PS's promotion, and a 2nd reproducing EXACTLY the original cover. Tuska, Burgos and Reinman do several stories each. Orlando and Torres do just one each, but they are outstanding—in their best Creepy style! PS Artbooks, 2020....More. Item Code: WMM01 Magazine, 8x11, 68pg, b&w $11.99 |
Here's the other 1950's replica editions from PS Artbooks, even more scarce than Eerie, above. |
15. CAVE PAINTINGS The Art of Budd Root Limited, 2000. Recommended. By Budd Root. Introduction by Frank Cho. "I'm a huge Budd Root fan from day one and I always wanted a nice hardcover Budd Root art book for a long time. After years of waiting, I decided to put my publisher hat on and just publish it myself." -Frank Cho. And is this a hot book! Page after page of dazzling art, not only wonderful nudes (and almost nudes) of Cavewoman, but specialty pieces, commissions, Universal monsters, convention book covers and posters, and an interview. Monkey Boy, 2016. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: CAVPH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 9x12, 128pg, Full Color $30.00 |
Another older title that makes this list every year. Frank Cho printed this as a favor to Budd, and I think he only sells them at shows, making us nearly an exclusive source. Budd's Cavewoman variant covers remain a cottage industry for Amryl. See the latest here. |
16. HAREM Highly Recommended. By Valentine Gallet. In the wake of Bonaparte's Egyptian Campaign, artists of the nineteenth century became fascinated by the Orient and, most particularly, the harems which were so remote from western culture. These places rapidly provided a pretext for drawing the languid bodies of beautiful naked women, whose depiction in any other context would have been frowned upon. This assembly of numerous works by Orientalist painters constitutes a sublime testimony to an imagined fantasy Orient, located between eroticism and sensuality. Plentiful nudity. Konemann, 2020. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: HAREM Soft Cover, 8x10, 280pg, Full Color $15.95 |
Now this was a real surprise. Orientalist art has always been popular for us, but it was generally only collected in high-end art books. Finally, this was a bargain-priced collection and it took off. |
17. MASTERPIECES OF FANTASY ART Our Highest Recommendation. By Dian Hanson. Art by Frazetta, Boris, Whelan, Jones, Hildebrandt, Giger, Whelan, Matthews et al. This monster-sized tome features original paintings, contextualized by preparatory sketches, sculptures, calendars, magazines, and paperback books for an immersive dive into this dynamic, fanciful genre. Insightful bios go beyond Wikipedia to give a more accurate and eye-opening look into the life of each artist. Complete with fold-outs and tipped-in chapter openers, this collection will reign as the most exquisite and informative guide to this popular subject for years to come. Taschen, 2020....More. Item Code: MASFH Hard Cover, 12x16, 528pg, Full Color |
This came out very late in the year, and was the subject of our latest catalog cover. And it was a high-end book. Nonetheless, it's been very strong for us, and is an amazing, if huge and heavy, collection! |
18. MANDY AND SKOOTS A BIOGRAPHICAL SCRAPBOOK Signed Signed. Highly Recommended. By Dean Yeagle. All new! Mandy just turned 22; she works at various jobs (dog-walking, life guard, waitress-on-skates, fish wrangler at the aquarium) while studying oboe, environmental science, French poetry, Victorian novels and, while naturally shy, volunteering as a life-class model (for Art's sake) at the art school where she also takes classes. They have, to date, not asked her for a single tuition payment. The lovely and very often unclothed young lady created by Playboy Magazine cartoonist Dean Yeagle. And our bestselling "convention sketchbook" each year. Caged Beagle, 2019. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: MANSKS Soft Cover, 8x11, 48 pg., Partial Color $20.00 |
Dean does these for shows. He does not sell these to Amazon, but secondary sellers there list this there for $35. With no shows to exhibit at in 2020, this 2019 release is the latest Mandy. We hope to see a new one in 2021. |
19. ILLUSTRATION MAGAZINE #67 Highly Recommended. Art by Vincent DiFate, James Bingham, John Fernie. A top-notch issue with three excellent artists profiled. Sci-fi illustrator Vincent DiFate is well known for his spectacular spaceships and robots on countless paperback covers back to the early 1960s and the era of the "Ace Doubles." Next up, Samson Pollen was an unsung but prolific master of men's sweat mag artwork, doing covers and interiors, many iconic. He's recently been collected in several books—here's an introduction to his work. Last up is Ray Prohaska, a top-tier magazine illustrator from the 1930s to the end of the sixties. Illustrated Press, 2020....More. Item Code: IL67 Magazine, 9x11, 80pg, Partial Color $15.00 |
Besides DiFate, a deserving sci-fi artist (and historian, too), this featured Samson Pollen, the men's "adventure magazines" illustrator. But generally each issue does very well for us, over a period of months. Here's a link to all of our issues of Illustration Magazine. |
20. CASEY RUGGLES A Saga of the West Volume 1 Special Sale Price. 1949-55. Highly Recommended. By Warren Tufts. Warren Tufts is one those rare artist”˜s artists, hugely admired by his fellow creators. Tufts' assistants were another talented list: Al Plastino (Superman artist), Edmond Good, Alex Toth, and the super DC creator Ruben Moreira. Tufts is not so well known to the public today, but this small body of work—and then his next project, Lance— captured devoted admiration from fans AND other creators, for quality stories AND quality artwork. Casey Ruggles is a smart and brave adventurer, in and out of scrapes with nefarious villains and beautiful women. Classic Comics Press, 2018....More. Item Code: CASR01H Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 12x9, 336pg, Full Color |
This was another remainder, sale-priced from the publisher of Lance, and by the same creator, Warren Tufts. Vol 2 is coming out in 2021. |
21. ENCHANTED A History of Fantasy Illustration Published to coincide with a major exhibition. Our Highest Recommendation. Written by leading historians of the field, Enchanted traces the development of fantasy art from Old Masters like Bosch, Dürer, and Henry Fuseli, through Golden Age illustrators like Arthur Rackham and Howard Pyle, to classic cover artists like Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo, and emerging talents like Anna Dittmann and Heather Edwards. More than 150 superb reproductions, including paintings, prints, drawings, and digital art, are illustrated in vibrant color, many at full-page size. Abbeville Press, 2020....More. Item Code: ENCHFH Hard Cover, 9x11, 256pg, Partial Color |
The last time a book like this came out, on another exhibit, they didn't have enough to sell to us. This time they did, and I'm pleased with this comprehensive history. |
22. VAMPIRELLA Volume 3 1969 Replica Edition Limited. Recommended. By Forrest J. Ackerman et al. Art by Billy Graham et al. Vampirella got her start in 1969 as a horror comic "hostess," and she's gone through 50 years of story evolution since. This Limited Replica Edition of Vampirella #3 reprints, complete with original ads, letter page and Vampi's intros to each story, the entire issue...magazine-sized, 66-pages. Behind a cool cover by Vaughn Bode and Larry Todd is work by Forest J. Ackerman, Don Glut, Billy Graham, Jack Sparling, Nick Cuti and others, primitive sometimes but wild and sexy! Dynamite, 2020....More. Item Code: VAMR03 Magazine, 8x11, 66pg, b&w $6.99 |
Replica editions are hot. There's also a Vampi #1, 2 (which also made the top 50) and 30. |
23. MORT KUNSTLER The Godfather of Pulp Fiction Illustrators Highly Recommended. Edited by Robert Deis and Wyatt Doyle. Known today as "America's Artist" for his popular and much admired historical paintings, it was in the wild world of men's adventure magazine illustration that Mort Künstler honed his ability to present large-scale action while never losing sight of essential details, much like fellow atists James Bama and Norman Saunders. It led to a mastery of capturing conflict in paint—both the spectacle, and the human cost. An unequaled selection of Künstler’s finest pieces. From the explosive intensity of battles on the sea and in the air, to taut, face-to-face showdowns and animal attacks, and of course the sexy ladies...every page explodes with action, color, and artistry. New Texture, 2019....More. Item Code: MORKGH Hard Cover, 9x12, 136 pg, Full Color $39.95 |
This concentrates on Kunstler's men's adventure magazine art, from the same publisher as the Samson Pollen books. We also handle a $15 exhibit catalog [MORK.] on Kunstler's entire career. |
24. INFECTED BY ART Volume 7 Highly Recommended. Edited by Todd Spoor and Bill Cox. Cover by Tran Nguyen (Ambedo) and back cover by Spectrum Grand Master Donato Giancola. This once again contains one of the most diverse groups of artists selected by their jury panel. 268 artists are represented, with works ranging from traditionally painted to digitally painted, illustrations in pencil, pen and ink or gold leaf, to sculpted works. Justin Gerard's image "For Hate's Sake" won IBA 7's grand prize, with artists Annie Stegg Gerard, Jeremy Wilson, Colin Poole, and Tran Nguyen also receiving grand prize awards. Infected By Art, 2019. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: INA07H Hard Cover, 9x11, 328pg, Full Color $34.99 |
After Spectrum, our best selling fantasy art annual, and with quite a different selection of work. Here are back volumes. |
25. THE DYNAMIC ART OF LUCIO PARRILLO Highly Recommended. For the last decade, artist Lucio Parrillo has crafted some of the most incredible painted images ever seen in comics! For Dynamite Entertainment, Parrillo has painted Red Sonja: From Barbarian to Queen! Vampirella: Drakulon and Beyond! John Carter, Dejah Thoris and Tarzan. Plus: Zombies, Pirates and Chaos! 200 pages of beautiful women and horrific beasts! Also featuring select process and preliminary pieces of art from Parrillo himself! This was first announced in late 2019, but it was actually worth the wait...it's a fine art book. Dynamite, 2020....More. Item Code: DYNLPH Hard Cover, 9x12, 200pg, Full Color |
This was LONG delayed, first annoucned more than a year ago. We're still looking for the Signed edition to come in. But orders were very strong and it finally came out in mid-October. He's a superlative painter but I didn't get familiar with his work until this appeared. |
26. CALENDAR GIRLS, SEX GODDESSES, AND PIN-UP QUEENS OF THE 40S, 50S, AND 60S Vintage full color pin-up photography, 1940s-1960s. Highly Recommended. Already a bestseller for us! It was the glamorous movie stars of the 1930s that first began the era of pin-up. Stars like Betty Grable and Jean Harlow oozed sexuality—many even posed nude. By the 1940s, this was a new phenomenon that sold millions of calendars and magazines—nudes, but provocative, never explicit, flirtatious but also freespirited. The images never crossed a certain moral line. And that's what we have here, from Bettie Page, Marilyn Monroe to June Wilkinson, Diane Webber to Hollywood actresses moonlighting for some extra money. Schiffer, 2019....More. Item Code: CALGH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 8x10, 400pg, Full Color |
What's not to like? While most vintage pin-up books examine artists like Varga and Petty, this is all photos. It's a fun collection. Here's a link to all of our Pin-Up books. |
27. DRAWING BEAUTIFUL WOMEN Studio Edition Signed Closeout Price! Signed on the book itself! Artist's Edition-size. Highly Recommended. By Frank Cho. This deluxe edition has an extra 16-page section with bonus artwork, an exclusive Frank Cho interview, and an alternate cover featuring a new painting. Two gatefolds are included. Frank Cho, the acclaimed creator of Liberty Meadows, shares his secrets to drawing the lovely women he is renowned for. The majority of the art shown here has been created specifically for this collection This is as much an art book, beautifully displaying Frank's work, as it is a how-to-book. Enhanced by Frank Cho's wit in his personal comments, for a fun and playful experience. Flesk, 2014. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: DRBWD Hard Cover, 12x17, 140pg, Full Color |
Flesk did a signed $200 edition of this and I think that's where the sales went. So with extra copies of this one, he gave us an irresistible price. We added a signed bookplate, thanks to Frank being a good friend, and this has sold steadily ever since. It's HUGE. |
28. THE CISCO KID Volume 3 Dailies, 1955-57. Highly Recommended. By Rod Reed. Art by José Luis Salinas. The third volume of the complete reprinting of The Cisco Kid, arguably the best drawn western strip ever done. The fine line work by Salinas is just amazing, challenging the quality of work by James Montgomery Flagg, Everett Raymond Kinstler, and Mac Raboy. Plus a fun and often exciting storyline of adventure in the old West, with bandits, villains, stagecoach crashes, hangings, beautiful women...it's all here. Dailies from March 21, 1955 to June 1, 1957. Classic Comics Press, 2017....More. Item Code: CIS03 Soft Cover, 8x11, 240pg, b&w $25.95 |
Another fine remainder book from Classic Comics Press. We only have a few left of this, but other ones are available and the publisher plans to reprint at least two. |

30. PRINCE VALIANT Volume 21 Sunday Pages, 1977-78. Recommended. Written by Hal Foster, art by John Cullen Murphy. Arn and Court Jester Sir Dinadan travel to France cleanse the country's troubadours of scum and villainy. Val accompanies the headstrong Gunther of Germany on his quest to recover stolen holy relics and claim a wife in Jerusalem. A Persian warlord sweeps across the Middle East, forcing Queen Aleta to seek refuge in a hidden city ruled by women. Item Code: PV21H Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 10x14, 112pg, Full Color |
Volume 22 came in very late in the year, so this previous volume tops that in sales. Interesting that the post-Hal Foster collections remain good sellers, but he was still writing the story as Murphy took over as artist. |
32. SEX AND HORROR The Art of Fernando Carcupino Recommended. This is the third volume in the Sex and Horror series, which celebrates the publishing craze of Italian adult comics and cartoons with a unique take on such genres as horror, crime, fantasy, and even fairy tales—all represented in this volume. Their huge success in the 1960s and ‘70s was due in part to their uninhibited mix of twisted humor, gory violence, and up-front eroticism—with gorgeous cover illustrations by classically trained painters. Here is collected Fernando Carcupino, famed not just for his comic work but his humorous pinups and lovely nudes. Korero, 2020. Mature Readers....More. The collaboration between Bettie Page and Irving Klaw produced photographs that are far more than mere pin-ups, embracing fetish themes like bondage, girl fights, spanking, and all the fetish clothing, from seamed stockings to high heels. Here are satisfying large, full page photos, most of them very high quality, crisp and sharp. 36. SOLD OUT ILLUSTRATION MAGAZINE #68 Special Austin Briggs issue. Our Highest Recommendation. Art by Austin Briggs. This issue is entirely devoted to the work of Austin Briggs. Briggs began his career providing illustrations for the pulp magazine Blue Book. In 1935 he began assisting Alex Raymond on Flash Gordon (several originals are here) and took over the dailies, and later the Sunday page. He also succeeded Raymond on Secret Agent Corrigan, even while he was doing magazine illustration beginning in 1941. He later moved on to creating illustrations for books and top-tier magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post. He was one of the founding faculty for the Famous Artists School. In 1969 he was elected to the Society of Illustrators' Hall of Fame. Note: Copies have a slight corner bump. Illustrated Press, 2020. Out of Print....More. 39. WOMEN OF THE SUN Bunny Yeager in Mexico Highly Recommended. Pioneer photographer Bunny Yeager, lauded for her collaborations with pin-up legend Bettie Page, began her career as a model herself, then shot Playboy centerfold girls and gorgeous models. Always overflowing with ambition, she created a series of popular books and softcover series, photographing nudes in exotic locations and then packaging each trip into a new publication. This handsome new coffee-table hardcover showcases a stunning collection of unique photos shot south of the border during the mid-1960s that has remained largely unseen—until now. Over 200 rare images in both color and b&w. Cult Epics, 2020. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: WOSUH Hard Cover, 9x11, 200pg, Partial Color |
A very welcome new Bunny book. We dealt closely with her when she was alive, she was a real character, signing photo prints for us and making up special packages of her pictures. We miss her. |
40. COMICS JOURNAL LIBRARY Volume 8 The EC Artists Part 1 Closeout Price! Highly Recommended. By Gary Groth. Archival interviews with Harvey Kurtzman, Frank Frazetta, EC and Mad publisher Bill Gaines, and many more, as well as contemporary interviews with Mad artists, are reprinted in the first of a beautifully packaged two-volume set. In their own words, the artists and writers (and publisher!) who made EC great. 41. DC GOES TO WAR Our Highest Recommendation. By Robert Kanigher, Garth Ennis et al. Art by Joe Kubert, Russ Heath, Alex Toth, John Severin, Jack Kirby et al. In this new collection, DC is recognizing nearly 80 years of comic book war stories beginning with the origin of Blackhawk in Military #1, 1941, Boy Commandos by S&K in 1942, on to the beginnings of Sgt. Rock, the origin of Enemy Ace, The Losers, The Unknown Soldier, the very first Haunted Tank, and my favorite piece, a graphic novel length War in Heaven, bringing Enemy Ace into World War II and reluctant combat to defend his German homeland, beautifully told and illustrated by Ennis and Russ Heath. Powerful stuff, first page to last. DC Comics, 2020....More. Item Code: DCGOEH Hard Cover, 7x10, 352pg, Full Color |
Finally we have another entirely new book, and well-deserving of my highest praise. The best-ever look at DC's war comics, long revered for stunning work by Joe Kubert, Russ Heath, Jerry Grandenetti and others. |
42. MANDY FRAMED Signed Signed. Highly Recommended. By Dean Yeagle. Since 2008, Dean has created more than 600 Mandy works as special commissions for gallery shows and for collectors. Here he collects these never-before-seen works. Here's every variation on Mandy, but with that one common theme...she's caught in a nude or almost nude pose, surprise on her face and big innocent eyes. Mandy herself introduces her very first commissions from 2008. Also included are some delightful prelim sketches preparing for the final full color piece. Wonderful work from this famed Playboy Magazine cartoonist. Caged Beagle, 2018. Mature Readers....More. Item Code: MANFHS Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 9x12, 48 pg., Full Color $25.00 |

This one's been tough to keep in stock. It's been a hot seller, but we often get damages that we must reject from the supplier. It went out of print for some time so we were glad to see a new edition. I had one of the original ones on my bedroom wall in the '60s. |
44. ILLUSTRATORS QUARTERLY #28 Highly Recommended. Art by Frank Kelly Freas, Yvonne Gilbert. Heinrich Kley, Laurent Durieux. Cool cover feature on Frank Kelly Freas, The "Dean" of Science Fiction artists, whose career spanned more than 50 years; Yvonne Gilbert: The outstanding young British artist who created "one of the most famous record sleeves of all time." Laurent Durieux: Brussels illustrator and alternative movie poster artist (and film director), whose new art book we will be handling this spring. And a nice feature on German fantasy artist Heinrich Kley with both b&w and rare color work, from anthropomorphic alligators to war satire. Some nudity. Book Palace, 2019....More. Item Code: IQ28 Magazine, 9x11, 96 pg, Full Color $24.99 |

45. PENTHOUSE 45TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL Special Paperback Edition In 2004 Rolling Stone declared Penthouse "The greatest adult magazine in history." From humble beginnings, Penthouse became one of the world's most notorious publications, creating a new style of men's magazine even more daring than Playboy. Celebrating 45 years, this handsome book is a compilation of some of the most beautiful women ever to grace the pages, in several-page pictorials, usually quite explicit. 46. ATLAS AT WAR My Highest Recommendation. Art by Russ Heath, John Severin, Gene Colan, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Syd Shores, Don Heck et al. Edited by Michael J. Vassallo. Fifty hard-hitting stories from Atlas, the company that became Marvel Comics. Each one hand-picked by Vassallo, a comics historian and world-renowned authority on Timely/Atlas. Marvel published more war titles than anyone in the industry, between 1951 and 1960, and were strongly influenced, at their best, by Kurtzman's EC stories. If you think EC and DC were the only publishers doing poignant, powerful and well-drawn war stories, read this and have your head turned around. This is good. Dead Reckoning, 2020....More. Item Code: ATLASWH Hard Cover, 8x11, 272 pg, Full Color |
Almost a companion to the DC War volume above, but this time we have material never, ever collected before. Atlas did a huge number of war books in the 1950s, and here are all the hidden gems by Heath, Maneely, Kirby and others. |
47. THE ART OF BRIAN BOLLAND Closeout Price! Highly Recommended. Often referred to as the "artist's artist," Brian Bolland has produced some of the most memorable and inspiring illustrations—primarily cover art—ever. This handsome volume is a retrospective of this astonishing artist's career and a look at the man himself. It begins with his rarely-seen British series, including Judge Dredd and Tank Girl, but quickly moves into iconic U.S. work on 63 covers for Animal Man, the legendary Camelot 3000, Wonder Woman, The Invisibles, Batman: Killing Joke. Every cover he's done is powerful, a knockout, minutely detailed. Image, 2006....More. Item Code: ARTBBH Hard Cover - No Dustjacket, 9x12, 176 pg., Partial Color |
Illustrator's Quarterly also recently did a feature on Bolland, but here's a full-blown art book on this important comics illustrator. |
48. STAN DRAKE'S THE HEART OF JULIET JONES Volume 3 Closeout Price! Dailies, Dec 1957-Jan 60. Recommended. Introduction by Bill Sienkiewicz. "...to me [Stan Drake] was also a mentor, a confidante, a bona fide raconteur, an occasional drinking buddy, and an obvious artist idol, as gifted an artist (not only of comics and strips) as ever walked the planet." From the introduction by Sienkiewicz. Drake's classic comic strip, collecting all the dailies and Sundays from this American original featuring amazing slick, realistic artwork. This 1950s soap opera strip had a modern look and gripping story arcs and was a big success in it's day. Classic Comics Press, 2010....More. Item Code: STA03 Soft Cover, 11x8, 233pg, b&w |

49. PROJECTS GODDESSES / CUSTOM MADE Deluxe slicpased set from Barcelona. Highly Recommended. By Luis Royo. Divided into two books with a clear difference. 57. MUSE New printing, new cover. Our Highest Recommendation. By Terry Dodson and Denis-Pierre Filippi. Terry Dodson is already a master of the female figure, as evidenced particularly in his fine Bombshells sketchbooks. Here he's taken that eroticism a big step farther, creating a voluptuous, gorgeous heroine in a full graphic story with gorgeous artwork, dramatic storytelling and yet a wonderful vehicle for drawing a tall, long-legged, stunning woman either naked or in various states of undress throughout the story. Coraline is a beautiful young lady who serves as governess to a wealthy, inventive and very mysterious homeowner. It's a Victorian-age tale but with steam-punk vehicles and other fun touches. 59. LE PATER ALPHONSE MUCHA'S SYMBOLIST MASTERPIECE Hardcover Our Highest Recommendation. By Thomas Negovan. By 1899, Alphonse Mucha was the most recognizable artist of Art Nouveau graphics and the most celebrated illustrator in Paris. So Mucha insisted upon creating a deeply personal work, a magnificent, oversized deluxe limited edition, Le Pater. For the remainder of his life he considered this his masterpiece. This Symbolist story features a female deity protecting humankind, sophisticated occult themes and mystical illustrations. And this edition from Century Guild is one of the most beautifully produced books I've seen: oversized, quarter leather, gilt embossed cover and gilt page edges...and packed with amazing work, from never-before-seen studies and paintings, each magnificent page of Le Pater itself.
