THE ART OF SAUL TEPPER
Limited, 900. Highly Recommended. By Daniel Zimmer. Saul Tepper (1899-1987) was a life member of the Society of Illustrators and was elected to its Hall of Fame in 1980. His work is most closely compared to that of Dean Cornwell, and he worked for all the same popular, nationally selling magazines as Cornwell. He eventually did an almost equal proportion of fiction and advertising assignments, for both magazines and for many national accounts, such as Mobil Oil, Texaco, Packard, General Motors and Coca-Cola. This is the first-ever collection of his work. Tepper began his career working with Albert Dorne, studied under Harvey Dunn and, like Dunn, went on to teach after a long and successful career. NEIL GAIMAN PIRATE STEW
Recommended. By Neil Gaiman. Art by Chris Riddell. A brand-new, oversized picture book for all ages. Long John has a whole crew of wild pirates in tow, and — for one boy and his sister — he's about to transform a perfectly ordinary evening into a riotous adventure beneath a pirate moon. It's time to make some Pirate Stew. Marvelously silly and gloriously entertaining, this is a tale of flying ships, doughnut feasts and some rather magical stew. With a deliciously rhyming text from master storyteller Neil Gaiman and bold, double-page full color illustrations by the supremely talented Chris Riddell. Quill Tree Books, 2020....More.

THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY
By David F. Walker. Art by Marcus Kwame Anderson. A serious, fact-packed look the origins and life of the Black Panther Party, founded in Oakland, Calif in 1966. It was a radical political organization that stood in defiant contrast to the mainstream, non-violent, non-armed civil rights movement. This gripping illustrated history explores the impact and significance of the Panthers, from their social, educational, and healthcare programs that were designed to uplift the Black community, their attempt to curb police brutality through citizen patrols, and finally, to their violent clashes with the FBI, which targeted the Party from its outset. THE POSSESSED
Highly Recommended. By Steve Niles. Art by Gyula Nemeth. Horror master Steve Niles pairs up with his Criminal Macabre artist, Gyula Nemeth, on this poignant and terrifying tale of a Jewish grandfather driven to rage and vengeance he's willing to die for. In Nazi-occupied Budapest, a very young girl sees her mother and father brutally murdered by an SS Officer. She escapes with her Grandfather. Filled with rage and hatred, the Grandfather asks a Rabbi of questionable character for help. In an ancient box lives a demon, filled with hate and violence, who'll help them live...and exact vengeance. But with a price. Very well drawn and a unique story. Clover Press, 2021....More.

With Conan's success as a color comic and a test run in mag Savage Tales, the decision was made to spin Conan off into his own magazine—with longer, more mature stories and art in black and white, behind beautiful painted covers. The Collected Toppi

THE COLLECTED TOPPI Volume 4 The Cradle of Life
Our Highest Recommendation. By Sergio Toppi. This fourth volume contains five tales set in Africa, India, and Australia, presented in English for the first time: The Kokombo Dossier, Bwuma, My Son, Warramunga 1856, M'Felewzi, and Pacific Island, first published in 1976, '85,'91,'97 and 2011. The stories are intriguing and poignant, looking at indigenous tribes and peoples, and yet offering us tales of adventure, violence, greed and retribution from more primitive times. Most of these adventures are either somewhat timeless, or take place in the 19th or very early 20th century, with unique characters in abundance. Minor nudity. Magnetic Press Inc, 2020....More.

Interspersed through the bio are pieces of several of his most famous stories, as he daydreams or writes them up and we see related art with Cthulhu, mythical Arkham and The Necronomicon, his "alter ego," Randolph Carter, Charles Dexter Ward, etc. HPL liked hanging out in graveyards at night, and always seemed to return to his beloved Providence. PHOOLAN DEVI REBEL QUEEN Hurt
French graphic novel. Highly Recommended. By Claire Fauvel. A fascinating new graphic novel, translated from the French, and an absolutely true story. She rebelled against the ancient tribal rules (read: women are the property of their husbands) of India. At the age of 11 she became wife for a much older man. She ran away when he raped her. From that point on, there were few choices for her, but there was her ambition and thirst for revenge. She was saved from death by a handsome young bandit, which was her entry into becoming the Robin Hood of India—albeit, a bit more blood-thirsty. NBM, 2020. Condition: Slightly bumped corners. He is the ultimate spy and de facto enforcer reining in the intelligence community's illegal excesses. But he's been framed by an international criminal cabal and is now on the run from the very government he's sworn to protect. Hmm, sure sounds like Jason Bourne!!
