The Trigan Empire

Our Highest Recommendation. By Mike Butterworth. Art by Don Lawrence and Ron Embleton. The legendary comics novel with artwork by two of Britain's finest creators. You don't want to miss this! The second thrilling omnibus lost Sci-Fi classic from the sixties the New York times called “highly detailed visions of fantastic worlds.” Among the distant stars, fractious tribes come together to found a mighty empire that will wage war against aggressive kingdoms, battle alien invaders, and conceive of incredible new technologies. This extraordinary volume continues to chart the glorious Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire, where the splendor and savagery of ancient Rome meets advanced jet planes and even space technology and aliens. We've sold an impressive 50 copies of the first volume, even while we have had GREAT difficulty getting more. We're looking at just 2 copies in stock as I write this, but my fingers are crossed that another large reorder is on the way. This is an import from England. Volume 1 [RIS01. $24.99].

Illustrator Don Lawrence is examined in Illustrators #22 [IQ22. $24.99} which is almost sold out, and both he and Ron Embleton are profiled in the huge, 386 volume Masters of British Comic Art. [MASBCAH. $50, $42.50].

Graphic Novels

Highly Recommended. Japan's enduring national legend comes to comics, by Dark Horse founder Mike Richardson and Usagi Yojimbo's own Stan Sakai. The tale of these samurai and their epic mission to avenge their wronged master is the story of Japan. Opening with the tragic incident that sealed the fate of Lord Asano, 47 Ronin follows a dedicated group of his vassals on their years-long path of vengeance! This epitomizes the samurai code of honor and a sweeping saga "of duty and duress in all its violent grandeur." Meticulously researched and illustrated. Plus a cover gallery, bonus art and behind-the-scenes extras.Dark Horse, 2021....More.

Conceived as a colorful contrast to the dark lead stories starring Batman, Manhunter was adventurer Paul Kirk, who criss-crossed the globe in an espionage caper, with the mysterious Council that trained him in pursuit. News & Notes

S. Clay Wilson

S. Clay Wilson passed away on the 7th, after several years of health issues. Wilson of course was one of the original Zap creators, possibly the most outrageous (even considering Crumb!) with his Checkered Demon, Captain Piss-Gums and others. "Wilson attracted attention from readers with aggressively violent and sexually explicit panoramas of lowlife denizens, often depicting the wild escapades of pirates and bikers." He was born in 1941, and lived primarily in urban San Francisco, where the underground comics movement first began in 1967.

Flesk News

Coming in March! Carbon 4 and Xenozoic by Mark Schultz and Al Williamson Strange World Adventures are printed and making the journey through the congested ports. We will have them next month, in March. The special publisher editions were only available to us as a one-shot, and we've taken orders for about half of our allotment. Once they come in, I don't expect them to last for longer than a few weeks. The trade editions will remain available as long as they stay in print from Flesk, but they have sold out several books lately, including Spectrum 27.

Other new books: Covenant: The Art of Allen Williams is nearly done and will be sent to the printer this month. The Drawings of Edwin Austin Abbey is at the printer and will be available to order soon. The original Naughty and Nice collection by Bruce Timm will be reprinted this fall. A revised edition of Franklin Booth: Painter With a Pen with an extra 100 pages is in the works. Plus, new books coming on Arthur Adams, Frank Cho, Gary Gianni, J.A.W. Cooper and William Stout! We'll announce each as soon as we can.
