THE GREAT GATSBY Illuminated Edition Highly Recommended. The Italian illustrators known as the Balbusso Twins are taking on F. ALL AMERICAN ADS OF THE 80S Back in Print. Recommended. By Steven Heller. Edited by Jim Heimann. Cover by Nagel. The emergence of the digital world signaled a looming change in the advertising industry. Still cash, cocaine, and Calvins were the staples of flagrant consumerism. With cell phones just around the corner and the death of print in the air, advertisers were still devoting substantial dollars to the outrageous and flamboyant. The "greed is good" mantra on Wall Street spawned the power-dressing, exercise-obsessed "Me Generation" of Yuppies. The art world enjoyed the influx of capital; computers and video games ruled in the office and at home. Leg warmers were big, shoulder pads were bigger and hair was biggest of all. THE FANTASTIC WORLD OF FRANK FRAZETTA Our Highest Recommendation. This monograph is the biggest and most complete ever produced on the artist, done in collaboration with the Frazetta family and with top collectors. Frank Frazetta has reigned as the undisputed lord of fantasy art for 50 years, his fame only growing in the 10 years since his death. With his paintings now breaking auction records, he's long overdue for this ultimate monograph. Born to a Sicilian immigrant family in Brooklyn, 1928, Frazetta was a minor league athlete, petty criminal and serial seducer with movie star looks and phenomenal talent. Taschen, 2022. Due: Feb. We are currently processing over 50 titles newly on sale. Most of these we’ve been out of for quite a long time —as much as years; a few were on sale before, but most are fresh newly discounted titles. Many are in slipcases, if that was the only way we could get them (we don’t usually stock the slipcased editions). We’re planning two sale emails just to cover all these, hopefully with the first one going out next Tuesday. Watch for them as they appear as new arrivals beginning Sept 1. |
At The Earth’s Core Update Copies are now in stock but with a caveat. Here’s a note from the publisher: "We’re getting lots of great feedback from fans who are saying this is our best effort yet. We really poured our hearts into this one. Almost 90% of the production (printing, assembly, stamping, collation, tipping in the color illustrations) was done by hand. It took a team of 20+ people working all day just to do final production and pack out. |
|
[However] pg. 302 is missing. We’re still trying to figure out what happened. It is the last page of the book and the second page of the Acknowledgements. It doesn’t take away from the amazing effort of our team, but it is really annoying and I can’t believe it slipped through our proofing. We’ve never had this happen before, but this is the first time we’ve ever had to set up master plates for a plate maker and that’s where the problem occurred. Four different people could/should have caught it, but it’s ultimately my fault." |
The publisher is printing the missing page letterpress, just like the rest of the book, and rushing them to us with an explanatory errata sheet. We’ve elected to NOT ship out the books until we have this page in hand, so it’ll be about two weeks wait, say September 10-15, when we can ship the complete package out. All that said, we DO have copies available and you are welcome to reserve one now. If you would like your limitation number to match the other editions you’ve bought from us (Princess of Mars, Tarzan of the Apes, etc), please note it on your order. It will remain listed as a "coming item" until we have the missing page. ~Bud |
