HANK JANSON UNDER COVER A Visual History Import from England. Highly Recommended. In this full-color coffee-table art book, noted researcher Stephen James Walker presents a complete visual history of the Hank Janson crime fiction series, from its inception in 1946 through to the last of the original novels in 1971, and beyond. Reproductions of every single cover — including, in full-page size and in better quality than ever seen before, all of the classic Reginald Heade painted covers of the 1940s and 1950s, including his foreign editions. Good girls, bad girls...it's all about racy themes and sex appeal on these vintage covers: nudity, bondage, violence, cleavage... The equivalent U.S. series might be Mike Hammer or Michael Shayne — except Janson was far longer-lived! Telos, 2021....More. Item Code: HANJH Hard Cover, 9x11, 256pg, Full Color |

This fine art book celebrates the work of Clayton Knight (1891-1969) and William Heaslip (1898-1970), the two preeminent American aviation artists of their time, who chronicled the golden age of aviation, (1927-1945) from Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight through the most devastating wars in world history. Knight and Heaslip were experienced military men and formally trained artists who, combining an authenticity of experience and an artistic mastery of illustration, produced powerful artwork that influenced a generation of Americans, creating air-minded adults and youngsters, many of whom flocked to US military service after Pearl Harbor. RANDOLPH CALDECOTT Warehouse Find, 1986. Although Caldecott's children's book illustrations are universally admired, his significance as an artist is not yet fully appreciated. He was one of the first illustrators to break with the dense cross-hatching and shading that characterized the wood-engraved illustrations of the 1860s. Dark atmospheric effects continued to be favored by many artists well into the 1870s and 1880s. Caldecott, in contrast, used wood-engraving in an entirely different way. His drawings employ a minimum of line — mere outlines in many cases — with the emphasis on lively and expressive draftsmanship. Houghton Library, 1986....More. Where’s that California Sunshine? Well….it’s been a crazy couple of weeks here. We’ve gotten several feet of snow, while we are used to getting just a few occasional inches. Our warehouse sits at just under 3000 ft elevation, on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains, between Lake Tahoe and Sacramento. It took down our power, our internet, and even our phone system. Everything is back up as I write this, except for our phone system; we’re still operating with just one phone line possibly for another full week. Please call back if you can’t reach someone during normal working hours, M-F 9-4. |
We were back filling orders on Monday March 6, after being down for six working days. We did not send out an email with new items last week, just a note about what was going on. Nearly all backed up orders were shipped out as of today, Wednesday, March 8, as I write this. Thanks to everyone for your patience. Fortunately, our website server is remotely located and your orders kept coming in as usual. Mail-in orders are also being processed now and all orders will be shipped out as of Thursday, March 9. One good result of all this…the California drought is over for at least the next year! We’re at 200% of normal right now. ~Bud |
