KATUSHA Girl Soldier of the Great Patriotic War
Closeout Price! Recommended. By Wayne Vansant. A popular but, due to its size, not inexpensive book—now on sale. On Sunday, June 22, 1941, the morning after Katusha’s graduation, the Germans invade the Soviet Union. As enemy forces occupy Kiev, Ukraine, Katusha and her family learn the Nazis are not there to liberate them but to conquer. During the next four years, Katusha experiences the war on the Eastern Front with all its ferocity and hardship: first as a partisan, then as a Red Army tank driver and commander. Katusha is both a coming-of-age story and a carefully researched account of one of the most turbulent and important periods of the twentieth century, where women served in the hundreds of thousands, and Russians died by the millions. Closeout Price! Recommended. By Vanessa Harryhausen. Special-effects superstar Ray Harryhausen elevated stop-motion animation to an art from the 1950s to 1980s. With material drawn from his incredible archive, his daughter Vanessa selects 100 creatures and objects, in chronological order, that meant the most to her as she watched her father make world-famous films that changed the course of cinema. He inspired a generation of film-makers such as Peter Jackson, Tim Burton, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, and his influence on blockbuster cinema can be felt to this day. Some of the objects featured in the book, such as Talos from Jason and the Argonauts, are world famous, while others are less well known but hold special personal significance to Vanessa. Signed & limited, 700! The Artist's Journey through Popular Culture 1942-62. Our Highest Recommendation. By Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr. and Everett Raymond Kinstler. Signed by Everett and Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr. on a hand-numbered bound-in print. The book comes in a red cloth-bound numbered slipcase with gold-stamped title. Kinstler's work hangs in museums, boardrooms, banks, private collections, The White House, and in the homes of his clients and friends. Before portraiture became his life's work, he spent the 1940s and 1950s honing his craft in comic books: Hawkman for DC's The Flash, Black Hood and Black Terror for Standard, and dozens upon dozens of covers, inside cover contents pages, and stories for those delightfully lurid Avon titles like Eerie, Cowpuncher, Dalton Brothers, Jesse James, Strange Worlds, etc. And illustrating for pulp magazines like The Shadow, Doc Savage and Detective Tales! Local Fauna: The Art of Peter de Séve

Peter is a New Yorker cover artist, animator and storyboarder, frequent Spectrum contributor, and a good friend of ours. And a brilliant artist! His new book will be featured on the cover of our upcoming catalog. It includes a signed bookplate.

However…it has proved so popular, the publisher has SOLD OUT the first printing. A new printing will be in our hands by the end of January. Sadly we ran quickly through our initial shipment.

Illustration Magazine Final Issues

As mentioned earlier, issues #81-84 were the final four issues. Editor Dan Zimmer will continue to do art books, but decided to hang up his periodical after these many years and many issues. He published #81-84 all at the same time. We are hoping he has plenty of copies so that we can continue to handle these and other back issues, but you may want to get yours now. He may have reduced his print runs…. His books are published under the imprint The Illustrated Press.

Cyber Sale

Don’t miss our annual Black Monday Cyber Sale. We still have lots of lots of great books left at 1/3 off, 40% off, and half price…108 titles as I write this. See them all here.
