Jim Steranko had a high regard for the heroes and the artwork of Quality, and featured the company prominently in his two volumes of History of the Comics. Plastic Man was also the lead feature of Police Comics for 102 issues, and we hope PS will collect these stories next. DC collected these Police/Plastic Man stories and all The Spirit weekly stories as DC Archives many years ago. Today they are all out of print, but check out our Rare Books section for both titles. Another Quality title was G.I. Combat. When DC Comics took over Quality in 1956, G.I. Combat, Blackhawk, and at least one romance title, Heart Throbs, carried on with sequential numbering. Canadian publisher Superior Comics hired the Iger shop to produce their comics, and here you have a lot of material that looks inspired by the style of Jack Kamen and even more Matt Baker. Imagine Fiction House doing horror, complete with leggy, barely-clothed ladies, and plenty of cleavage. Includes three fun sci-fi stories. In #1's "The Living Corpse" a wife has dreams about a man dead for 10 years, so her husband makes a deal with the devil to bring the corpse back to life. The corpse kidnaps his wife. FIGHT AGAINST CRIME #20 Reprint from 1954. Recommended. Online there are no credits for these stories, but they are actually very competently drawn in a familiar style — the first sure looks like early Joe Maneely to me! Famous, grisly decapitation (with headlights, no less) cover, even outdoing EC's lone decapitation cover that Gaines tried to defend in Congress trials. Plus inside: hanging, ax murder, blood and violence. A merely Fine copy (6.0) in 2023 sold for $14,000! This pre-code crime classic being released mere months before the Comics Code would come into play is a prime example of what the Code aimed to censor! And for good reason, in this case!
