FLEETWAY COMICS ARCHIVES THE THREE MUSKETEERS
Limited, 300. Highly Recommended. Collected in a single volume for the first time, this classic of comic strip adaptation brings to life all the action and poignancy of Alexandre Dumas' novel and its sequel (the enthralling mystery surrounding the Man in the Iron Mask). All by artist Arturo del Castillo, one of the greatest masters of the comic strip. These originally appeared in the British comics Film Fun and Lion in the early 1960s. This is the first time they have ever been reprinted complete. The quality of del Castillo's pen work is simply stunning on these strips. Also included here are 14 pages of original del Castillo artwork. Book Palace, 2025. ...More.

WES SLADE DEPUTY US MARSHAL
Limited, 400. Handsome square oversized hardcover reproducing three daily strips per page, in nice large size. Recommended. Regarded by comic aficionados as the finest western strip ever published, Wes Slade ran from 1961 until 1981. Written and drawn by George Stokes, the artwork is very special. All the stories show a fresh and authentic treatment of the role of the Native Americans in the West. Presented here are 10 never-before reprinted tales of Wes Slade written and drawn by Stokes between 1962 and 1974 and all scanned directly from the original artwork held in the Express newspaper archives. Not only does it portray the plight of the various tribes at the hands of the encroaching white settlers, it does so with some of the most accomplished Western artwork ever to grace a newspaper on both sides of the Atlantic. FLEETWAY COMICS ARCHIVES BUFFALO BILL
Limited, 300. Recommended. By Michael Butterworth. Jesus Blasco, a solid illustrator who reminds us of Syd Shores, draws one of the best of the 1950s Western comic strips done in Britain. Bill Cody was Chief of the Scouts to General Custer's 7th Cavalry at Fort Abraham Lincoln in Dakota Territory. The series was featured in The Comet from 1953 to 1959. Presented here is some of the finest pen and ink work by Jesus Blasco from 1954 and 1955. Unusually for that time the Indian adversaries were conveyed with understanding and admiration. BLACK CAT COMICS Volume 3
Collects #9-12, 1948. Highly Recommended. By Lee Elias, Simon & Kirby, Alfred Andriola et al. More dazzling adventures of Linda Turner, the glamorous Hollywood starlet who moonlights as the daring Black Cat. Armed with her stunt training, quick thinking, and fearless resolve, Black Cat takes on a new wave of gangsters, spies, and shadowy villains. Non-stop excitement, bold visuals, and a heroine ahead of her time. Excellent artwork and a fun, all-ages storyline starring the sexy but still wholesome heroine. This new series collects newly restored pages. The battle between Flash and the devious Ming the Merciless reaches its climax. THUN'DA KING OF THE CONGO Volume 1 Hardcover Hurt
Collects #2-6, 1952-53. Highly Recommended. By Bob Powell. First appearing in comics in 1952 and on film in Columbia Pictures serial "King of the Congo" starring Buster Crabbe, Thun'da was a fictional Tarzan-esque character scripted by Gardner Fox and originally created by artist Frank Frazetta! Thun'da was Roger Drum, a World War II United States Air Force officer who was shot down while flying over a lost civilization, deep in the heart of Africa. Bob Powell took over and did a superb job on #2 through #6, collected here — but Powell's fine work has always been in the shadow of Frazetta's work in issue #1. Powell's at his best here, with Thun'da and his voluptuous girl friend...it's as exciting as the work he did on Cave Girl, which is another under-appreciated title from the same publisher, Magazine Enterprises (ME). PS Artbooks, 2024. Condition: Bumped corners. ...More.

FINE PRINT Volume 2 Hurt
Recommended. By Stjepan Sejic. "...gloriously erotic and painterly...quick and clever; the line work, staging, and color are perfect." - Library Journal. A tale of gods, mortals, love, lust, death, and bad decisions — that all starts with a simple bite of a golden apple. When Lauren signs the divine contract promising bliss for the price of love, she expects to be granted the services of the highest ranking god of desire. To everyone's surprise this is a contested title and what was supposed to be a simple routine transaction becomes a mess! WARLORD By Mike Grell Omnibus Volume 1
Recommended. Collects 1st Issue Special #8, Warlord #1-50, and Amazing World of DC Comics #12. In 1975, DC made one of its most notable expansions beyond the world of superheroes with the introduction of the Warlord — a new fantasy hero created by writer and artist Mike Grell. Mike would soon be a fan-favorite for his character-redefining Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters and ultimately for his First Comics series Jon Sable Freelance and Starslayer. in Warlord, Lt. Colonel Travis Morgan of the United States Air Force is attacked while on a reconnaissance mission over Russia. Fleeing toward the arctic circle, he is forced to abandon his dying aircraft over the Yukon and parachutes through a swirling mist into the strange and unrecognizable land of Skartaris where he returns to the primitive a la John Carter or Tarzan. WALT DISNEY'S CARL BARKS LIBRARY DONALD DUCK Volume 1 1942-1950 XXL
600 pages with extended essay by Disney historian Jim Fanning. Highly Recommended. Suave yet short-tempered, Donald Duck was Walt Disney’s cartoon bad boy, a more complex foil to the ever-optimistic Mickey Mouse and a box-office draw from his earliest silver screen appearances. It was in comics that Donald continued to soar creatively, thanks to Carl Barks, the self-taught cartoonist whose masterful and imaginative work turned the quarrelsome quacker into a cultural icon. Spanning 1942 to 1950, this deluxe volume collects all of Barks’s earliest and most iconic tales from the Four Color anthology series, including Lost in the Andes, Luck of the North, Donald Duck and the Mummy’s Ring, and Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold plus much, much more. Taschen, 2025. Rush Service and International shipping could require an additional charge. Due: Jan....More.

News & Notes

I’m including the full text of my editorial from the latest catalog (see below) for anyone who might not catch it there. It has big news about my retirement and who’s coming onboard to carry on my work!

Bud’s Catalog Editorial:

Our cover feature, Fiendish Monsters by Bruce Timm, is only available from the publisher and from us. It won’t reach any retail outlets until well in 2026; Fleskes did not offer it on Kickstarter. It’s a lot of fun!

We’ve had a very busy Holiday season so far. The previous catalog with the bonus 16 pages has done very well, and our special Sale offerings beginning in November have appealed to many of you also. Thanks so much… it’s nice to be leaving on a high note!

On that thought, I’ve got a big announcement for you. The folks who are carrying on Bud Plant Comic Art aka Bud’s Art Books, will be officially taking the reins January 31, 2026. I will still be here helping them for the next 3-6 months, so very little will be changing. Except for one employee, we will have the same staff—including Mikala, LaDonna and Todd taking orders and helping you on the phones. The warehouse stays as it is, catalogs, newsletters, weekly emails and specials...all of that is unchanged.

My “replacement” is Marty Grosser. Many of you may recognize him. As of last June, Marty had been the editor of Diamond Comics Previews for 37 years, 441 issues! Previews of course was the massive monthly publication announcing coming comics, toys, games and comics-related material. He wrote an editorial in every Previews, so even if you don’t know him, you’ve likely read something he’s written. He’s a long-time fan of all-things comics, just like I am, but he’s a good decade younger, so still a youngster to me!

Marty actually started his comics career at Comics & Comix, the chain of stores that my partners and I started in 1972 and ran until 1988. Marty became an assistant manager by 1986, then moved from C&C to working directly for me in my warehouse as a writer.

When Diamond Comics bought my distribution arm in 1988, Marty was one of the two people they took to Baltimore. I couldn’t be happier that he’s stepping into my shoes. He’s got the experience and he loves the world of comics. He’s as big a fanboy as I am, and he’ll have some new interests of his own he can bring to the table. He knows a lot more about contempo- rary comics and creators than I do. It will be excellent to have a new, fresh perspective on today’s comics. I think Marty is the perfect choice to become the new face of Bud’s Art Books.

In the meantime, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season! The staff is taking both four-day holidays, so we won’t be open the Friday after Christmas or after New Year’s.

Thanks to you and all of our wonderful customers out there. I’m very grateful for your part in keeping us going for 55 great years!

~ Bud Plant
