EDMUND DULAC His American Weekly Collection 1924-1951
By Albert Seligman and Ann Conolly Hughey. In 1923, Edmund Dulac, the distinguished English artist, as he was billed on the front covers, was contracted by the Hearst organization to paint watercolors for The American Weekly magazine, the Sunday supplement for the newspapers. The contract lasted nearly 30 years. Dulac painted 106 watercolors from 1924-1951 for thirteen different series for The American Weekly. This is Dulac’s largest body of work, and has never before been assembled. This includes all full color illustrations used for the front covers and several that were never published. All the images have been restored and printed with high quality inks. The introduction was written by Ann Hughey. Dulac Books, 2025. ...More.

THE MONKEY WRENCH GANG 50th Anniversary Edition Slipcase
Limited Edition, 300, signed by contributors Sophie Crumb (on each of her two prints), Ken Sanders, Trent Call, and the two real-life people who inspired the characters Hayduke and Seldom Seen. This is a newly produced deluxe illustrated slipcase, filled with special new commissioned artwork, memorabilia, bookplates, recollections, and far more. Accompanying it is a new 2025 50th anniversary edition of the book itself, complete with all the original R. Crumb illustrations. Edward Abbey loved the Utah desert area and wrote about it frequently in his best-selling books. Here he set off on a gonzo side-trip, perhaps even inspired by Hunter Thompson and his whacked out journalism. In a thinly veiled work of fiction, a group of hardcore environmentalists do their utmost to stop corporate greed, uncaring land development, and ecological disaster of dams on wild rivers. Includes the previously deleted chapter, "Seldom Seen at Home." This classic of revolutionary fiction tells the story of George Washington Hayduke III and his gang of ecological activists running amok in the Southwestern desert. Dream Garden Press, 2025. Rush Service and International shipping could require an additional charge. ...More.

THE HOLLYWOOD HISTORY OF ART

Based on years of archive research and interviews, this will appeal to museum and gallery goers, film buffs, art fans and of course those with fond memories of Kirk Douglas being attacked by crows, Charlton Heston swallowing a mouthful of paint as he frescoes the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Ed Harris dripping brushfuls of paint onto a huge canvas, and Salma Hayek being transported at speed in a four-poster bed to a contemporary art gallery in Mexico City. Bob Foster Archives

Disney storyboard artist, editor and writer Bob Foster was a long-time friend of ours. When he passed away he left his archives to us. Even though these have Rare Book codes, we have each of these in quantity.

History of Moosekind was his magnum opus, which ran for 11 issues in Marvel Crazy Magazine in the 1970s. But most old timers also remember him for the underground/independent comic of his creation, Myron Moose, first published by Bob and later by Fantagraphics.

BOB FOSTER'S MYRON MOOSE FUNNIES #2
Bob Foster's Myron Moose character is an anthropomorphic bull moose with a sinus problem, leading to frequent nostril picking and mucus drips from his snout. Foster self-published the first two issues of Myron Moose Funnies in the early '70s while working for the animation studios Filmation and Hanna-Barbera. This second issue has a bit more deviant underground content than the first, most of it supplied by Foster but some by Vincent Davis, who provides some of the best comics in the book. Others who also contribute to the book include: Alex Toth, who did a one-pager featuring Fox, a minor comic costumed hero Toth sometimes illustrated, and Myron Moose, Bob Zamboni & Dan Rodriguez. Bob Foster, 1973. Out Of Print. Condition: Fine Plus/Very Fine Minus. Some light cover and edge wear. Some bumped corners. ...More.

Foreword by William Stout. Testimonials by Sergio Aragones, Willie Ito and Daan Jippes. A collection of personal holiday greeting cards that Bob Foster sent out to fewer than 40 friends and family members spanning the years 1974 - 2018. Most cards were written in quirky rhymes and illustrated with amusing cartoons. Plus two more surprises inserted inside the back cover. Bob's writing, illustrating and editing career has spanned the decades with Disney and Hanna-Barbera, and he was Art Director at Egmont, Disney's comics licensed in Denmark. Bob Foster, 2018. PEEVE DU JOUR By Bob Foster
By Bob Foster. Foreword by Floyd Norman, Afterword by Bill Spicer. Excerpted from the foreword by Floyd Norman: "Just when you thought people couldn’t get any dumber, they managed to exceed all expectations. Lucky for us, Bob Foster has become an expert in the many, minor annoyances of life. To be fair, Bob’s not a complainer or a grump. He just happens to be an astute observer of the human condition. Though he may not be as forgiving as the next person, his measured annoyance at incompetence is always fun. As our mutual pal, Willie Ito would often say, 'That’s just Bob.'" Bob Foster, 2019. Out of Print. Condition: Very Fine. ...More.

Item Code: RB7961
Soft Cover, 5x9, 60pg, Text/b&w

In true Taschen fashion, the end-all book on Donald — the largest AND heaviest book we've ever offered, 27 pounds! Since 1934, Donald Duck, one of the most published comic book subjects, has been seen in more films than any other Disney character. Signed by Dave Sim! It's the 20th anniversary of the release of Cerebus #300! Read the one that started it all! Beginning in 1977 as a self-published parody of Barry Windsor-Smith's Conan, Dave Sim's Cerebus quickly grew into something much bigger, both artistically and commercially, revealing the untapped potential of the medium and influencing a wave of creators and comics (including Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Todd McFarlane's Spawn, among many others!). THE REALLY COMPLETE PARADISE TOO By Terry Moore Special Hardcover Signed
Signed! Recommended. Before Terry Moore launched his comic book career with Strangers In Paradise, he spent years honing his ideas and artistic chops drawing comic strips. Katchoo, Francine, David and more were all developed in comic strip formats that never saw the light of day until they were finally published in a limited comic book series titled Paradise TOO in 2010 with a tiny print run. There is more, way more than would fit into the original book. Terry continues to draw, draw, draw and the cartoons keep coming! It was decided that it’s time for a new book collecting the best of the original and new work! Abstract Studio, 2024....More.

CREATURES FROM THE SUBCONSCIOUS Signed
Signed! Highly Recommended. Denis calls these his “chipboard” drawings. Drawn without pencil prelims or any aforethought, the spontaneous images are created on the unforgiving pulpy surface of chipboard, the stiff backer board on legal pads and similar. They occasionally remind us of R. Crumb's more surreal work and also of Basil Wolverton — high praise indeed. There's nothing normal here. These are all from another dimension of strange creatures, stranger settings, all with some kind of bizarre story behind them...but it's for you to figure out what the heck caused Denis to create each one. Demented? Oh, yes. Tinto Press, 2023....More.

Item Code: CREAFHS

PABLO MARCOS SKETCHBOOK Signed
Signed, from 2009. Recommended. Pablo Marcos (born March 31, 1937), is a comic book artist and commercial illustrator best known as one of his home country Peru's leading cartoonists, and for his work on such popular American comics characters as Batman and Conan the Barbarian, particularly during the 1970s. His signature character was Marvel Comics' The Zombie, for which Marcos drew all but one story in the black-and-white horror-comics magazine Tales of the Zombie (1973-1975). More recently he's done Red Sonja for Dynamite and work in Heavy Metal and Frank Frazetta Magazine. At Marvel he inked all the great artists, from John Buscema and Bill Sienkiewicz to John Byrne! Big Wow!, 2009....More.

LOCAL FAUNA The Art of Peter de Sève Signed
Signed bookplate! Our Highest Recommendation. Peter de Sève’s work spans four decades and various media, from magazines, books, and television commercials to Broadway posters and character designs for animated feature films. He is perhaps best recognized for his many covers for The New Yorker magazine and his character designs for the blockbuster Ice Age franchise (Scrat is a veritable international celebrity). De Sève has also contributed to such films as Finding Nemo, Robots, The Little Prince, and The Grinch, to name only a few. He is currently busy at work on various animated projects in both the United States and Europe. Cernunnos, 2023....More.

Item Code: LOCFHS
Hard Cover, 8x11, 288pg, Partial Color
$40.00 $25.00

THUNDER HUNTERS Signed
Signed! Highly Recommended. Artist and adventurer J.V. Holbrook has traversed and recorded the natural history of an uncharted planet. Thunder Hunters is the unique cross section of his sketches, journal entries, sequential stories, and portraits of inhabitants and the expansive Vermillion Sands region, a world not unlike Moebius or Berni Wrightson might have created! Mark Nelson's brilliantly imaginative creatures are the highlight here, and his stunning use of color. This highly successful Kickstarter project showcases his attention to detail and love of this newly explored alien domain, revealing a never before seen world of myth, culture, landscape and wildlife. Grazing Dinosaur Press, 2023....More.

Item Code: THUNHS
Hard Cover, 8x11, 102pg, Partial Color

THE DRAWINGS OF EDWIN AUSTIN ABBEY
Our Highest Recommendation. By Alice "Bunny" Carter. One of the finest pen & ink artists of his day; this first-ever book focuses on Edwin Austen Abbey's (1852-1911) work in magazines and books. 350 drawings, including an exquisite series done over twenty years for The Comedies of William Shakespeare, followed by a very rare set, The Shakespeare Tragedies. His painstaking devotion to research while securing the appropriate costumes, props and models for his drawings was legendary. He is in the rarefied class of Joseph Clement Coll, Franklin Booth, Arthur Rackham, and Frank Godwin — all masters of the medium— and he was the first in this line of greats. An extensive new essay by Alice A. Carter offers a fresh look at his life and career. Flesk, 2021....More.

Highly Recommended. Franz Wacik (1883-1938) was an extraordinary Austrian talent who also designed for the theater, painted frescoes and murals, and illustrated children’s books. While his startlingly original work is largely unknown today, this volume (primarily composed of Wacik’s work for the satire magazine Die Muskete) will be a revelation for many. R/EVOLUTION THE ART OF JON FOSTER Hardcover
Recommended. Edited by Cathy and Arnie Fenner, and Irene Gallo. Jon Foster creates irresistibly dark demimondes populated by retro robots, Star Wars villains, and creepy goth-inspired creatures that recall the work of James Gurney (Dinotopia), Rick Berry, H. R. Giger, and past masters of the grotesque like Goya. Yet his work is inimitably his own, from the noirish lighting, off-kilter angles, and kinetic sense of movement to his singular technique of starting a project with oils and then scanning it into a computer to add more startling visual effects. ATLAS COMICS LIBRARY Volume 2 Venus #2
Collects Venus #10-19, 1950-52. Our Highest Recommendation. In the late 1940s, Marvel Comics predecessors Timely and Atlas Comics published Venus, a lighthearted romance comic about the goddess of love. Never a company to miss a trend, Atlas introduced science fiction and made her a superhero — then made the title a straight-out horror anthology. Today it's one of the most desirable pre-code titles. Here is the swift-changing second half of the 19-issue run — all the very best issues! Future Marvel stars Bill Everett (seven issues) and Werner Roth (three issues) take Venus to heights of four-color weirdness and pre-Code horror ghastliness. Fantagraphics, 2024....More.

Collects Savage Sword of Conan #13-28 and Super Special #2, 1976-78. Highly Recommended. The cornerstone of Marvel's black-and-white magazine line offers stories of fiction's most famous barbarian unencumbered by the Comics Code. Ferocious, untamed tales by Roy Thomas and artistic greats including John Buscema and Neal Adams, took full advantage and the results are fine mature work. Multi-part sagas like "The People of the Black Circle" luxuriate in extended tellings, while Buscema's take on "The Tower of the Elephant" and "Worms of the Earth" explores the nuance of all-time Robert E. WALT KELLY'S ADVENTURES OF PETER WHEAT Volume 2
Collects #15-27, 1948-51. Highly Recommended. Walt Kelly's Peter Wheat comics are renowned for their humor and artistic flair, appealing to both children and adults, as well as their incredible scarcity. Never before have they been collected. Between 1948 and 1951, Kelly drew thirty-five issues of The Adventures of Peter Wheat, a sixteen page comic book given away to bakeries to promote Peter Wheat bread. The stories were fairy tales starring Peter Wheat, an elf-sized boy who lived in a hollow tree on the edge of a wheat field where he and the Little Folk battled Dragonel, Queen of the Hornets. THE LOST WORLDS OF GEORGE METZGER
Highly Recommended. George Metzger’s underground comics from the 1970s stand out for their captivating combination of high fantasy and science fiction, his prescient views of climate change and political chicanery —and, just when you need it, the right touch of whimsy and imaginative insight. Explore a feudal landscape in steam-powered vehicles, soar the skies in anachronistic airships and hitchhike back to nature with the hippies. It’s all here in George Metzger’s most iconic (and idiosyncratic) comics creations — including two never-before-seen stories rediscovered after missing for decades! Fantagraphics, 2024....More.

Collects #44-48, 1951-52. Highly Recommended. Art by Reed Crandall, Paul Gustavson and Dick Dillin. These five new Quality Comics' Blackhawk issues show just why this title was so popular and so long-lived. Reed Crandall provides brilliant covers and at least one lead story each issue, showing the same talent he was using at EC just a year or so after these came out. And the stories of our intrepid squad stay fresh and different with bad girls often leading criminal gangs, dictators, and starting to get a touch of horror tales as comics discovered horror in general. THUN'DA KING OF THE CONGO Volume 1
Collects #2-6, 1952-53. Highly Recommended. By Bob Powell. First appearing in comics in 1952 and on film in Columbia Pictures serial "King of the Congo" starring Buster Crabbe, Thun'da was a fictional Tarzan-esque character scripted by Gardner Fox and originally created by artist Frank Frazetta! Thun'da was Roger Drum, a World War II United States Air Force officer who was shot down while flying over a lost civilization, deep in the heart of Africa. Bob Powell took over and did a superb job on #2 through #6, collected here — but Powell's fine work has always been in the shadow of Frazetta's work in issue #1. Powell's at his best here, with Thund'da and his voluptuous girl friend...it's as exciting as the work he did on Cave Girl, which is another under-appreciated title from the same publisher, Magazine Enterprises (ME). CAT-MAN #4 Facsimile Edition
Sept 1942. Highly Recommended. By Charles Quinlan, Ray Willner, Allen Ulmer, Irwin Hasen et al. Published by Holyoke Publishing in early 1942, this is a shining example of the best of the Golden Age. The series featured the superhero Cat-Man, created by writer and artist Charles M. Quinlan. Today this is a key GA title and issues are snapped up for big bucks. Cat-Man is solo here, Kitten has not yet joined him. A typical anthology title, back up features include the heroes Rag Man, Blaze Baylor, superhero Dr. Diamond, Lucky Landers, Hurricane Harrigan (also by Quinlan), The Deacon (a prison warden!), Lance Rand with an escaped ape story, Devil Dogs (U.S. pilots), and superhero Pied Piper! BILL THE BOY WONDER
Recommended. By Marc Tyler Nobelman. Art by Batman artist Ty Templeton. Every Batman story is marked with the words, “Batman created by Bob Kane.” But that isn’t the whole truth. A struggling writer named Bill Finger was involved from the beginning. Bill helped invent Batman, from concept to costume to character. He dreamed up Batman’s haunting origins and his colorful nemeses. Despite his brilliance, Bill worked in obscurity. It was only after his death that fans went to bat for Bill, calling for acknowledgment that he was co-creator of Batman. DAISY GOES TO THE MOON
Embossed cover. Recommended. Adapted and illustrated by Rick Geary. In 1919, Victorian author Daisy Ashford (1881-1972) published a book she co-wrote with her parents at 9 years old to great success. None other than J.M. Barrie (Peter Pan) was enchanted by the manuscript — "brimming with the solecisms and malapropisms of infantile naivete, while infused with a keen sense of observation from a lavishing resplendent bygone era." He was instrumental in its publication. Inspired by her imaginative adventure, writer Mathew Klickstein and cartoonist Rick Geary have created a delightful graphic novel, in which little Daisy goes to outer space, visits the cosmic automat, watches TV with a time traveler, and more! KAFKA'S MANUSCRIPT
With a stylistic nod to the wordless novels of Frans Masereel and the expressionist drawings of Franz Kafka himself, Jason Novak’s short (and wordless) graphic novel begins at the author’s deathbed, where he entrusts his friend Max Brod with the task of destroying his unpublished papers. Brod refuses, and what follows is the story of how Kafka’s literary legacy escaped Europe under the shadow of fascism. It is a survey of Kafka’s paranoid landscape in kinetoscopic monochrome. WALT DISNEY'S DONALD DUCK VACATION PARADE
First published in 2021 in France. Highly Recommended. A comics tribute to Donald’s Golden Age animation career. WICKED The Graphic Novel Part 1
Recommended. Art by Scott Hampton. Like Dorothy when she crash-landed all those years ago, prepare to be swept into a new and colorful world in this first-ever graphic novel adaptation of Wicked. While the long-running Broadway musical and major motion picture take inspiration from this iconic novel, this is Oz as Gregory Maguire wrote it — a fantastical story with dark edges that explores morality and ambition, love and friendship, and discovering one’s inner power. Very well drawn by the acclaimed Scott Hampton, fully painted. William Morrow Paperbacks, 2025....More.
