Highly Recommended. Foreword by Guillermo del Toro. Features the extraordinary original artworks and paintings gathered in the Korshak Collection; artwork by pioneering and contemporary artists from over 160 years of science fiction and fantasy alongside essays by such figures as del Toro, Kevin J. Anderson, and Michael Dirda, who highlight the profound and ongoing impact of those works on imaginative literature. Alongside essays about famous illustrators such as Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac, contributors engage in a critical reassessment of understudied artists such as José Segrelles, Wladyslaw Benda, Margaret Brundage,Fortunino Matania, Willy Pogany, Margaret Brundage and Hannes Bok, all represented here with multiple images by each artist. The artworks appeared on the covers of the Tarzan series by Edgar Rice Burroughs, classic pulp magazines such as Amazing Stories and Weird Tales, and legendary books and rare magazine art from the Golden Age of Illustration. DOUG CHIANG The Cinematic Legacy & The Star Wars Legacy Box Set
Recommended. By Alexandre Poncet and Gilles Penso. A two-volume, deluxe slipcased celebration of Academy Award-winning artist and designer Doug Chiang, LucasFilm’s executive design director. Chiang’s impact on Star Wars, documented in full in the Star Wars Legacy volume of this monumental monograph, cannot be overstated. From the Naboo N-1 Starfighter to the iconic podracers and innumerable ships, droids, and creatures in between, no one person has had a greater hand in guiding the look and feel of Star Wars since Ralph McQuarrie. Abrams, 2025. Rush Service and International shipping could require an additional charge. ...More.

Recommended. Collects 1st Issue Special #8, Warlord #1-50, and Amazing World of DC Comics #12. In 1975, DC made one of its most notable expansions beyond the world of superheroes with the introduction of the Warlord — a new fantasy hero created by writer and artist Mike Grell. WALT DISNEY'S CARL BARKS LIBRARY DONALD DUCK Volume 1 1942-1950 XXL
600 pages with extended essay by Disney historian Jim Fanning. Highly Recommended. Suave yet short-tempered, Donald Duck was Walt Disney’s cartoon bad boy, a more complex foil to the ever-optimistic Mickey Mouse and a box-office draw from his earliest silver screen appearances. It was in comics that Donald continued to soar creatively, thanks to Carl Barks, the self-taught cartoonist whose masterful and imaginative work turned the quarrelsome quacker into a cultural icon. Spanning 1942 to 1950, this deluxe volume collects all of Barks’s earliest and most iconic tales from the Four Color anthology series, including Lost in the Andes, Luck of the North, Donald Duck and the Mummy’s Ring, and Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold plus much, much more. News & Notes

I’m including the full text of my editorial from the latest catalog (see below) for anyone who might not catch it there. It has big news about my retirement and who’s coming onboard to carry on my work!

Bud’s Catalog Editorial:

Our cover feature, Fiendish Monsters by Bruce Timm, is only available from the publisher and from us. It won’t reach any retail outlets until well in 2026; Fleskes did not offer it on Kickstarter. It’s a lot of fun!

We’ve had a very busy Holiday season so far. The previous catalog with the bonus 16 pages has done very well, and our special Sale offerings beginning in November have appealed to many of you also. Thanks so much… it’s nice to be leaving on a high note!

On that thought, I’ve got a big announcement for you. The folks who are carrying on Bud Plant Comic Art aka Bud’s Art Books, will be officially taking the reins January 31, 2026. I will still be here helping them for the next 3-6 months, so very little will be changing. Except for one employee, we will have the same staff—including Mikala, LaDonna and Todd taking orders and helping you on the phones. The warehouse stays as it is, catalogs, newsletters, weekly emails and specials...all of that is unchanged.

My “replacement” is Marty Grosser. Many of you may recognize him. As of last June, Marty had been the editor of Diamond Comics Previews for 37 years, 441 issues! Previews of course was the massive monthly publication announcing coming comics, toys, games and comics-related material. He wrote an editorial in every Previews, so even if you don’t know him, you’ve likely read something he’s written. He’s a long-time fan of all-things comics, just like I am, but he’s a good decade younger, so still a youngster to me!

Marty actually started his comics career at Comics & Comix, the chain of stores that my partners and I started in 1972 and ran until 1988. Marty became an assistant manager by 1986, then moved from C&C to working directly for me in my warehouse as a writer.

When Diamond Comics bought my distribution arm in 1988, Marty was one of the two people they took to Baltimore. I couldn’t be happier that he’s stepping into my shoes. He’s got the experience and he loves the world of comics. He’s as big a fanboy as I am, and he’ll have some new interests of his own he can bring to the table. He knows a lot more about contempo- rary comics and creators than I do. It will be excellent to have a new, fresh perspective on today’s comics. I think Marty is the perfect choice to become the new face of Bud’s Art Books.

In the meantime, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season! The staff is taking both four-day holidays, so we won’t be open the Friday after Christmas or after New Year’s.

Thanks to you and all of our wonderful customers out there. I’m very grateful for your part in keeping us going for 55 great years!

~ Bud Plant
