Comics & Graphic Novels

DJINN Volume 1
Translated from the French. Our Highest Recommendation. By Jean Dufaux. Art by Ana Miralles. Kim Nelson has heard the legend of Jade, a powerful woman who was considered to be a djinn, a spirit with the ability to seduce any human heart—but Kim isn't interested in legends. She's just looking for her grandmother. Fifty years ago, Jade served the Black Sultan as part of the Imperial Harem, but Jade was no ordinary harem girl—she was the sultan's favorite. She had the power to manipulate men's and women's hearts, subtly alter their convictions, and even affect the course of an entire war. A brilliant adventure, erotic and exotic, beautifully drawn with fully formed characters and a mystery that drawns you in. Insight Comics, 2018. Mature Readers...More.

Item Code: DJIN01
Soft Cover, 8x10, 104pg, Full Color

I give this my Highest Recommendation, I think you will like it. Plus the price is a real bargain. Wells' The Invisible Man, and the wonderful Carthago.

News and Notes

Sky Masters Sundays

Finally in again last week, is totally sold out, including the slightly hurt copies. I really did warn you, this would be a tough one, and I thank the dozens of customers who asked us to reserve a copy for them since this was first announced last Spring. The compiler tells us there is a slight chance for a reprint, but perhaps not, it was tough publishing this in Spain and then shipping it to the U.S. for them.

Skyward by Joe Henderson and Lee Garbett

We don't handle many graphic novels from Image, but this one caught my eye. And it was even better than I expected, it's a superb little story, unique and very well drawn. And just $9.95, what a deal. I had tears in my eyes when I finished it, and immediately passed it on to my significant other, Anne Hutchison. She's not even a comics fan, but SHE liked it too. Great read. Shows what you can do with realistic characters thrust into a totally alien concept, in this case, the loss of gravity for the entire planet. One girl loves it, but she was born the day gravity went away. Unfortunately, her Mom was one of thousands who floated to her death in the sky. Her Dad has never gotten over his role in this bizarre new reality and won’t step a foot out of their apartment. After reading this, I gave it My Highest Recommendation.

New Steranko:

We just placed an advance order Steranko: The Self-Controlled Man, which has yet to be announced elsewhere. We hope to have copies for you as soon as it is published. We've seen the entire 160-page pdf, filled with full color images, and it looks great. It's an intimate look at Jim’s comics work, with an interview. See our website for currently available Steranko.

Rare Books

We've been VERY busy of late, and we are busy training a new addition to our staff. and the Christmas orders from our latest catalog have kept us hopping. We were able to squeeze in a few items this week, but new additions will be as time allows, so there might be some weeks where none are listed.

Sale Email Teaser

Our Winter Sale Email will go out to you right before Thanksgiving. I mentioned we will be premiering a nice selection of sale-priced and signed Bill Schelly books including Best of Star Studded, Founders of Comics Fandom, Best of Alter Ego, The Eye, Heroes vs. Hitler, and more. We've also just gotten in a batch of Taschen books and another batch of graphic novels that will also be sale priced, and will first appear in this special email. Watch for it November 20th, or check in on New Arrivals as we get these onto the website.

More about New Arrivals - And Holiday News

Our new Arrivals on the Home Page is now 25 items instead of five, with the latest starting at the very top. I am very pleased to now have this broader selection for you. We're still at work on a special button that will list all new arrivals in one place, but in the meantime just click on each subject, i.e. Art and Illustration, Comics Related, etc. and then on New Arrivals to see the latest.

And please keep in mind that the mails will slow down around the holidays, so try and get your shopping done early. We also run out of items in the mad rush up to Christmas, so that's another reason to order now while we have copies rather than chance us being out of stock on that important Christmas gift with no time to spare...

WECA/Canadian Whites

We're posting Ivan Kocmarek's latest Comic Daily post to our Facebook page. It links a video of unboxing an amazing collection of Canadian Whites, along with the auction results from Ivan. Speaking of which, the WECA Priceguide [WECPG] is down to 3 copies and I've just raised these last ones to $35. Ivan is talking two years before we see a new edition. And his fine Heroes of the Home Front is sold out in the regular edition, for us, but we still have five deluxe and a couple dinged copies before we are out [HERHFD. $125].

Fantastic Worlds: The Art of William Stout

Bill just sent us an image of the bookplate we're going to add to the trade edition [FANTWHS. $75]. It's unpublished and will be in full color. Here it is. The limitation on the deluxe $525 edition is now just 315 copies. Bill doesn't know much about it yet, but it will include 4 or 5 extra prints, a clamshell box and more extras, as well as being signed and limited. [FANTWD. $525]
