MICHAEL PARKES
Bookmark signed with facsimile autopen signature*. Our Highest Recommendation. A new deluxe art book collecting the fine fantasy artwork of Michael Parkes from the publisher of Visions of Beauty by Kinuko Craft. Here strange beasts encounter mysterious winged and often nude women, good and evil fight it out, and in this weightless environment worlds are unmade and remade nearer to the heart’s desire in incredible fantasy paintings, drawings and elegant statues of beautiful women. Quite a lot of more recent work that was not collected in previous volumes, plus much of his best earlier work. Embossed gold detailing and finished with a velvety laminate, meticulously printed on premium 170-gram silk paper to ensure exceptional image clarity, rich color depth. "...the most comprehensive collection of my work ever published." -Michael Parkes. A massive 380 pages, large 10x13 size. Some nudity. Salome Art Venture, 2025. Mature Readers....More.

EVERGREEN REVIEW Dispatches from the Literary Underground Covers & Essays 1957-1973
From the late 1950s to the mid-70s, work by contributors like Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Amiri Baraka, Eldridge Cleaver, Timothy Leary, Dennis Hopper, Jean Genet, Jerry Rubin, Bernadette Devlin, and Germaine Greer regularly appeared in the countercultural magazine Evergreen Review. Their subversive work and radical politics defined outsider literature for an entire generation. Hip photography and sexy covers also propelled the magazine into iconic status. For the first time, full color reproductions of all covers of all 100 issues from 1957 to 1973, plus hundreds of pages from many of the issues are reprinted exactly as they looked then -- with all illustrations, photography, even the ads for other books, albums, letters to the editor left intact! Minor nudity. Fantagraphics, 2025. Mature Readers....More.

New Fawcett Facsimile Editions

WHIZ COMICS #25 Facsimile Edition
From December, 1941. Highly Recommended. Art by Mac Raboy, C. C. Beck et al. A key issue, with Captain Nazi jumping over from the pages of Master Comics to fight CM and it all brings about, right here, the origin of Captain Marvel, Jr. Capt. Nazi attacks a young boy and leaves him crippled, which can't be reversed. But CM goes to his mentor Shazam and agrees to give some of his power to the boy, so that when Freddy says "Captain Marvel" he turns into the super-powered Captain Marvel, Jr. CM then sends him back to Master Comics (yes, really) to aid Bulletman in his own battle with Captain Nazi. All of this is part of a 3-part origin story. CM Jr. immediately became the long running cover feature of Master Comics. PS Artbooks, 2025....More.

A sailing ship from 1492 suddenly turns up in the present day. Spy Smasher goes after Nazi saboteurs. Lance O'Cassey meets the Amazons. Ibis the Invincible meets the Leopard Man. Captain Marvel chases "The Lost Lightning," Spy Smasher, in a story drawn by Mac Raboy, "Battles the Bomber Birds," Mr. Scarlet "Turns Ghost Breaker," "Commando Yank takes on the Paris Apaches" and Minute Man "Fights the Goddess of Fire." with the heart and humor that made him a fan favorite. Once again, most of our copies arrived damaged. We have just two as-new copies as I write this; more are on the way. These publishers simply do not care that their books get bumped en route to us. They can’t seem to learn (or care) to pack books properly. Bud’s rant of the week.

Click here for previous volumes (and the upcoming Vol 5) as well as older Flash Gordon collections and Alex Raymond’s Rip Kirby and Secret Agent X-9. He’s also featured in Best of Illustrators Quarterly 10th Anniversary Special from 2023. We have only 3 left [BESIQS. $45.99].

KEN PARKER SIGNATURE EDITION The Best of Collection Book 1 Long Rifle Chemako
Hardcover. Recommended. By Giancarlo Berardi. Art by Ivo Milazzo. An acclaimed, award-winning, western series that first appeared in Italy. Ken Parker is a trapper, military scout, sheriff, fugitive, detective, writer... everything except a typical western hero. Here his story begins, that of a western anti-hero, graphically inspired by Robert Redford and the Jeremiah Johnson film. Like Johnson, he is a trapper who decided to escape the city. His stories are mainly set in Northwestern states or, after Parker was forced to flee after his participation in some strikes in Boston (initially as a Pinkerton agent), along the Canadian frontier. The themes covered by the series are unusual for a western, including homosexuality, ecology, ghettoization, justice, the destiny of Man, and his relationship with God. KEN PARKER SIGNATURE EDITION The Best of Collection Book 2 The White Lands/The Nation of the People
Recommended. By Giancarlo Berardi. Art by Bruno Marraffa. Cover by Ivo Milazzo. An acclaimed, award-winning, western series that first appeared in Italy. Ken Parker is a trapper, military scout, sheriff, fugitive, detective, writer... everything except a typical western hero. He is more a monolithic character like Tex Willer or John Wayne's heroes: he grows older since his first story (set in 1870), he commits errors and changes his ideas and ideals. He maintained: "I don't like to kill... not even when it is necessary". Here his story begins, that of a western anti-hero, graphically inspired by Robert Redford and Jeremiah Johnson, the film. CARMILLA An Illuminated Edition
Recommended. Introduction by Poppy Z. Brite. Sheridan Le Fanu’s magnetic and sinuous 1871 novella introduced one of the iconic anti-heroines of gothic fiction. It pioneered depictions of lesbian desire in European writing, and would go on to inspire Bram Stoker's Dracula. Today, Carmilla is considered a landmark work recognized for its major contributions to vampire fiction and gothic literature. Rosemary Valero-O’Connell contributes outstanding full page plates and spot illustrations, tender and menacing both. All new original illustrations tangle with the complex legacy of a landmark piece of horror fiction suffused with unfulfilled desire between two young women. Beehive Books, 2025....More.

Discover the early origins of blood-curdling slasher movies. Two meaty features display the macabre pre-Code artwork of Atlas’s Bill Everett as well as a look at the hugely collectible Venus run with its own Everett covers and stories! Our favorite issue to date! I love the two articles on Bill Everett’s 1950s pre-code work for both the Marvel horror comics and for the legendary Venus, which went from a bland romance title to one of the most collectible horror comics from Atlas, once Bill took over!

#1 is out of print, but you can still score #2 and 3, $10.95 each.

Like many other publishers, Twomorrows is not longer shipping books to Diamond Comic Distributors. Thus there may be an interruption in the flow of their books out to comic stores; just something to be aware of if you normally buy any of these locally.

REED CRANDALL ILLUSTRATOR OF THE COMICS Signed
Almost Gone! Signed extra-illustrated full color 7x10 bookplate! Now in softcover. Our Highest Recommendation. By Roger Hill. The special bookplate features a painting never before reproduced in full color featuring John Carter, Dejah Thoris & friends, and Tars Tarkas going into battle (nudity). From the 1940s to the ‘70s, Reed Crandall brought a unique and masterful style to American comic art. Using an illustrator's approach on everything he touched, Crandall gained a reputation as the “artist’s artist” through his skillful interpretations of Golden Age super-heroes Doll Man, The Ray, Firebrand, and Blackhawk (his signature character); horror and sci-fi for the legendary EC Comics line; Warren Publishing’s Creepy, Eerie, and Blazing Combat; THUNDER Agents and Edgar Rice Burroughs characters; and even Flash Gordon for King Features. The origin of the Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl and all their earliest appearances in Brave and the Bold, Mystery in Space and Hawkman #1-16, all from 1961 to 1966. As did writer Gardner Fox, who was writing the Golden Age Hawkman stories and returned to do this modern retake of the characters. This begins with their journey as Thanagarian warriors coming to protect Earth. Whether battling the Shadow Thief, thwarting alien invasions, or solving ancient puzzles, their stories are a masterclass in courage and ingenuity, and brilliant comics storytelling and art. We actually received Vol 2 already, long before this first volume reached us. As much as I’ve said about the Diamond Comics debacle having little effect on us, it did catch up with us here. Diamond never filled our order for Vol 1; we brought them in from new distributor Lunar. Anyway, now we have both volumes and look forward to Volume 3! These aren’t cheap but still are $15 less than the now out of print hardcover volumes, and each collects seven issues, almost 400 pages of material.

Together they form the capstone to his unique literary contribution to our appreciation of his father’s invented world. Many consider Alan Lee THE Tolkien creator. MAC RABOY Master of the Comics
Closeout Price! The first-ever book on this hugely talented artist. Our Highest Recommendation. By Roger Hill. Introduction by Roy Thomas. Beginning with his WPA etchings during the 1930s, Mac Raboy struggled to survive the Great Depression and eventually found his way into the comics. He perfected his art style on early stories of Dr. Voodoo, Zorro The Mystery Man, Bulletman, Spy Smasher, (all for Fawcett), The Green Lama and, finally, his crowning achievement, Captain Marvel Jr. Raboy went on to illustrate the Flash Gordon Sunday newspaper strip, and left behind a legacy of meticulous perfection. Through extensive research and interviews with son David Raboy, and with several of Mac Raboy's Golden Age assistants, author Roger Hill brings Mac Raboy, the man and the artist, into focus. THE JOHN SEVERIN WESTERNS Featuring American Eagle
Collects Prize Comics Western #85-113. 1951-55. Our Highest Recommendation. From 1951 to 1955, before and during his legendary EC work, John Severin, Mad artist Will Elder and Two-Fisted Tales writer Colin Dawkins introduced a new level of historical accuracy to the comic-book Western. While Native Americans had generally been vilified or left in the shadows of gun-slinging cowboy heroes, the American Eagle stories featured in Prize Comics Western were built around action-packed tribal intrigues and a heroic Crow warrior. And they are GREAT! Well written and superbly drawn!!! Fantagraphics, 2023....More.

Overstreet Price Guide now out in November

This year’s guide, normally ready in July, is now slated to ship in November. We are taking orders for the three editions, softcover, hardcover and Big Big. So far there are no other variants planned. Although still owned by Diamond founder Steve Geppi, the publisher Gemstone has obviously been affected by the Diamond bankruptcy, creating this delay.

Bud Plant For Sale - Update

We had a productive first meeting with potential buyers of the business this week. They are located in Sacramento; they already sell discounted comic book archives on Ebay. If we come to an agreement, they would keep the business running for the forseeable future as it is now, keeping our staff and location and product mix. I would help in the transition to new owners before I bow out sometime in mid-2026. Meanwhile, as I’ve said before, we continue to operate as usual with new items being ordered as usual.
