After seeing how superlative this new issue is, I don’t think I ordered enough. Act now, we have just 30 copies of each cover in stock. I’ll be bringing more in but we might be out of stock for a week or perhaps two at the most. It takes two weeks for reorders to arrive from England.

Here’s all available Illustrator’s Quarterly issues plus specials.

CARMILLA An Illuminated Edition
Recommended. Introduction by Poppy Z. Brite. Sheridan Le Fanu’s magnetic and sinuous 1871 novella introduced one of the iconic anti-heroines of gothic fiction. It pioneered depictions of lesbian desire in European writing, and would go on to inspire Bram Stoker's Dracula. Today, Carmilla is considered a landmark work recognized for its major contributions to vampire fiction and gothic literature. Rosemary Valero-O’Connell contributes outstanding full page plates and spot illustrations, tender and menacing both. All new original illustrations tangle with the complex legacy of a landmark piece of horror fiction suffused with unfulfilled desire between two young women. Beehive Books, 2025....More.

Item Code: CARIEH
Hard Cover, 9x12, 144pg, Full Color

There will also be a deluxe signed & limited edition that is due soon [CARIED. $250]. We still have previous Beehive matching editions in stock: Island of Doctor Moreau, A Wonder Book, The Inferno at $100 each. Harrison Cady and Temple of Silence at $125.

Nearly all pages scanned from the originals. Presented in IDW's award-winning Artist's Edition format — the next best thing to owning the original art. IDW, 2025. Highly Recommended. An A issue that will appeal to any comics or movie fan. -Bud. Acclaimed illustrator Alex Ross regales us with the gory lowdown on his Universal Monsters paintings. Discover the early origins of blood-curdling slasher movies. Two meaty features display the macabre pre-Code artwork of Atlas’s Bill Everett as well as a look at the hugely collectible Venus run with its own Everett covers and stories! There's a look at ACG’s artist maestro Harry Lazarus. Editor Peter Normanton literally brings that era’s 3-D comic books to life with a mini-history and complete 3-D story reprint! TwoMorrows, 2025....More.

Item Code: CRY04

Our favorite issue to date! I love the two articles on Bill Everett’s 1950s pre-code work for both the Marvel horror comics and for the legendary Venus, which went from a bland romance title to one of the most collectible horror comics from Atlas, once Bill took over!

#1 is out of print, but you can still score #2 and 3, $10.95 each.

Like many other publishers, Twomorrows is not longer shipping books to Diamond Comic Distributors. Thus there may be an interruption in the flow of their books out to comic stores; just something to be aware of if you normally buy any of these locally.

REED CRANDALL ILLUSTRATOR OF THE COMICS Signed
Almost Gone! Signed extra-illustrated full color 7x10 bookplate! Now in softcover. Our Highest Recommendation. By Roger Hill. The special bookplate features a painting never before reproduced in full color featuring John Carter, Dejah Thoris & friends, and Tars Tarkas going into battle (nudity). From the 1940s to the ‘70s, Reed Crandall brought a unique and masterful style to American comic art. Using an illustrator's approach on everything he touched, Crandall gained a reputation as the “artist’s artist” through his skillful interpretations of Golden Age super-heroes Doll Man, The Ray, Firebrand, and Blackhawk (his signature character); horror and sci-fi for the legendary EC Comics line; Warren Publishing’s Creepy, Eerie, and Blazing Combat; THUNDER Agents and Edgar Rice Burroughs characters; and even Flash Gordon for King Features. The origin of the Silver Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl and all their earliest appearances in Brave and the Bold, Mystery in Space and Hawkman #1-16, all from 1961 to 1966. Superlative artwork by Joe Kubert and Murphy Anderson, who obviously really cared deeply for the characters. As did writer Gardner Fox, who was writing the Golden Age Hawkman stories and returned to do this modern retake of the characters. This begins with their journey as Thanagarian warriors coming to protect Earth. Whether battling the Shadow Thief, thwarting alien invasions, or solving ancient puzzles, their stories are a masterclass in courage and ingenuity, and brilliant comics storytelling and art. We actually received Vol 2 already, long before this first volume reached us. As much as I’ve said about the Diamond Comics debacle having little effect on us, it did catch up with us here. Diamond never filled our order for Vol 1; we brought them in from new distributor Lunar. Anyway, now we have both volumes and look forward to Volume 3! These aren’t cheap but still are $15 less than the now out of print hardcover volumes, and each collects seven issues, almost 400 pages of material.

Steve Ditko took over both storytelling, plotting and character creation with these issues: here are the first appearances of Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson, Harry Osborne as the second Green Goblin, and Kraven the Hunter! These are his last before he left Marvel. John Romita took over the title with #39, so his first two issues are also here, kicking off his long and successful run as he redefined Spidey with his polished, modern look. Marvel, 2025....More.

Together they form the capstone to his unique literary contribution to our appreciation of his father’s invented world. Many consider Alan Lee THE Tolkien creator. MAC RABOY Master of the Comics
Closeout Price! The first-ever book on this hugely talented artist. Our Highest Recommendation. By Roger Hill. Introduction by Roy Thomas. Beginning with his WPA etchings during the 1930s, Mac Raboy struggled to survive the Great Depression and eventually found his way into the comics. He perfected his art style on early stories of Dr. Voodoo, Zorro The Mystery Man, Bulletman, Spy Smasher, (all for Fawcett), The Green Lama and, finally, his crowning achievement, Captain Marvel Jr. Raboy went on to illustrate the Flash Gordon Sunday newspaper strip, and left behind a legacy of meticulous perfection. Through extensive research and interviews with son David Raboy, and with several of Mac Raboy's Golden Age assistants, author Roger Hill brings Mac Raboy, the man and the artist, into focus. THE JOHN SEVERIN WESTERNS Featuring American Eagle
Collects Prize Comics Western #85-113. 1951-55. Our Highest Recommendation. From 1951 to 1955, before and during his legendary EC work, John Severin, Mad artist Will Elder and Two-Fisted Tales writer Colin Dawkins introduced a new level of historical accuracy to the comic-book Western. While Native Americans had generally been vilified or left in the shadows of gun-slinging cowboy heroes, the American Eagle stories featured in Prize Comics Western were built around action-packed tribal intrigues and a heroic Crow warrior. And they are GREAT! Well written and superbly drawn!!! Fantagraphics, 2023....More.

Overstreet Price Guide now out in November

This year’s guide, normally ready in July, is now slated to ship in November. We are taking orders for the three editions, softcover, hardcover and Big Big. So far there are no other variants planned. Although still owned by Diamond founder Steve Geppi, the publisher Gemstone has obviously been affected by the Diamond bankruptcy, creating this delay.

Bud Plant For Sale - Update

We had a productive first meeting with potential buyers of the business this week. They are located in Sacramento; they already sell discounted comic book archives on Ebay. If we come to an agreement, they would keep the business running for the forseeable future as it is now, keeping our staff and location and product mix. I would help in the transition to new owners before I bow out sometime in mid-2026. Meanwhile, as I’ve said before, we continue to operate as usual with new items being ordered as usual.
