Illustration #75, Berni Wrightson’s Monster Color Book, Diego Rivera, Django Reinhart, Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robots!

Berni Wrightson is back in The Monsters Color the Creature Book. We have a new Illustration Magazine and Men's Adventure Quarterly. Alley Oop's new time travel adventures continue. Diego Rivera and Django Reinhart get biographical graphic novels.

I like the look of two more new graphic novels, Not All Robots and St. Mercy. Skies of Venus is a new ERB pastiche. Coming: The Art of Sanjulian revised and a massive new tome on Franklin Booth. Booth strongly influenced none other than Berni Wrightson…

Our brand new catalog, Enric cover, is downloadable now. Print copies ready in March.

Graphic Novels & Archives

DIEGO RIVERA
Recommended. By Francisco de la Mora. Art by José Luis Pescador. This impressive and long graphic novel explores the passions and contradictions that turned the prolific and brilliant painter Diego Rivera into an increasingly universal cultural figure. Rivera was a revolutionary painter; by his twenties he was counted among the most influential figures of the Parisian art scene of the early 20th century, including Picasso, Modigliani, Braque, and Gris. Rivera's murals, both in his native Mexico and the United States, reflect the contradictory turbulence of his character and times. Self Made Hero, 2021....More.

DJANGO HAND ON FIRE The Great Django Reinhardt
Highly Recommended. By Salva Rubio. Art by Efa. Django Reinhardt is a legend. But Django — which may have meant "He who wakens"—-was twice born. A first time in the snow, during the winter of 1910 in a nomadic gypsy family stationed in Liberchies, Belgium. The second in Saint-Ouen, near Paris, in the fall of 1928, when a fire in his caravan mutilated his left hand. Beautifully told story with borderless panels. 16 page afterword with wonderful vintage photos of Django and fellow musicians. Cue the music! NBM, 2022....More.

By Mark Russell and Mike Deodato Jr. A sci-fi satire and adventure with impressive photo-realistic art from Mark Russell (The Flintstones, Second Coming) and Mike Deodato Jr. (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Resistance). In the year 2056, robots have replaced human beings in the workforce. An uneasy co-existence develops between the newly intelligent robots and the ten billion humans living on Earth. 2022 Calendar Sale

As I write this on Wednesday, February 23, we are sold out on Royo, Women of Myth and Magic, and Tolkien.

Boris/Julie Bell, Fractal Cosmos, Bosch and Alice in Wonderland are down to 1 copy each.

Vintage Golden Age, Hot Naked Girls and Fantasy Art are down to 2 copies.

Girls 4 copies, Pulp Attack and Pin-Up Girls/Gil Elvgren 5 copies.

We have more of the other titles, but many have fewer than ten left.

We actually ended up with more titles to discount this year than normal, even though we promoted the full list in two catalogs. I am not sure why. Are fewer people using printed calendars? I still use three myself, between my office here at the warehouse and at home, and our kitchen. Click here to see the Adult Calendars, and here to see all 2022 Calendars.

GLAMOUR ROAD Color, Fashion, Style, and the Midcentury Automobile
By Jeff Stork & Tom Dolle. This highly visual book explores the seldom-told story of how glamour, fashion, design, and styling became the main focus of automotive marketing from the postwar 1940s through the 1970s. With the expansion of the American suburbs after WWII, women suddenly needed cars of their own. By adopting the fashion industry's yearly model changes, as well as hiring many designers and stylists from the fashion industry, the automobile industry made a direct appeal to the rising sophistication and influence of women. REAL PHOTO POSTCARDS Pictures from a Changing Nation
By Linda Klich and Benjamin Weiss. The ubiquity of photography and social media today makes it hard to imagine a time when it was not possible for ordinary people to take their own pictures and send them with short messages over long distances. But it was revolutionary when the Eastman Kodak Company, in 1903, unveiled a new postcard camera that produced a postcard-size negative that could print directly onto a blank card. Suddenly almost anyone, amateurs and entrepreneurial photographers alike, could take a picture — of neighbors at home and at work, local celebrations, newsworthy disasters, sightseeing trips — and turn it into a postcard.
